It is an extremely well balanced car that could easily be ruined with any additions. Lighter parts and at most 50-70 hp could be the only thing to improve.
Just saw the grand tour take of an a110 review and god, saying this is an whole other level is quite an understatement. Amazing editing work, way better than what grand tour manage with there enormous budget. Chapeau
Superb job you've done here! My father gave me the passion of the alpine A110 bringing me to some hillclimb races all-around south of France! You make me feel 15 years younger chearing on the side of the road earring the four cylinder screaming ad seeing the little 1600s berlinette sideways in every corner! Merci beaucoup for this beautiful film!! Go one, top gear is back at the top of there game! cheers
This would really sell well in the US. I already tried it and it's stunning ! I'd prefer it above any 600 hp supercar honestly. Already 3 of my friends ordered one, 2 arrived last week ... so i guess more A110 driving for me next year :-) .
It's quite amazing, and rare, how the press is unanimous about this car. It's that good because it delivers on the promise that it would be light, nimble, sporty, functional and rather cheap. Renault did a fantastic job on this one, but I feel like we're all waiting for an even sportier version of the A110 before writing that check. I don't know if that's on the horizon but it definitely should.
1100kgs is considered light today? Damn. The original car was around 740kgs. Of course the new car will perform much better thanks to modern technology. But I can't help but wonder if Alpine could have made it lighter. By ditching the flappy paddle gearbox and sat nav. I can't imagine how well it can perform if it weighed under a ton.
@@1250GSX Yeah. The 4 door 1.3 litre Swift weighs 1060kgs. My series 3 Morris Oxford designed in the 50s weighs 1100kgs. I've modified it's 1500cc engine and was surprised to see it out running my uncle's Swift 1.3.
Yes tons of features, and with a rigid body, olds cars doesn´t have anything of "heavy" things and zero safety equipment, yes I know for example somes AE86 weights arround 800 kg.
Nowadays cars became heavier because of security restrictions, increase in engines power and efficiency, and electronic assistance. U can see, today sporty cars are quite heavy (especially german ones). A 1.8 ton vehicule like an A6 would have drive like garbage some decades ago. And further more, it's more appealing for the brand to spend money on a big engine with good figures than on a lightened chassis. Some manufacturers do have some "light" cars tho. I have a 308 (it's similar in dimensions to a golf) and it weights 1090kg.
Brilliant video! I've really started liking this car! It's got everything I want in a sports car (yeah I can live without a manual). Would I have this over a Cayman? I don't know. But this video is making me want one very badly. Good job guys!
It's the standard Michelin pilot sport 4 which are great. But I think the Michelin pilot sport 4 S could do the trick as they are a little bit stiffer on sidewalls.
i think this is the best road based sports car in recent years. if you disagree please let me know. i don't want to argue i just want to hear peoples opinions. the porsche gt4, lotus elise and lotus exige are close competitors but i think as a complete road focused sports package the alpine takes the cake. i'd personalty take a lotus over the alpine but the alpine has a more beautiful exterior, interior and seems more exotic. i think the makers of this car judged the idea and engineered the end product masterfully.
I know some people in the US wish the Alpine A110 was sold here but here is the thing. Renault, the company that produces the Alpine A110, would have a hard time selling this in the United States, since Renault has not sold cars in the United States in a long time. I feel that there would only be so many people that would know what this car is, if Renault wound up returning to the North America market. That is the thing with some many other cool things that Europe gets that we do not get in the United States. I feel, vehicles like the Audi RS6 Avant, the new Ford Focus RS, and many other cool European cars would not sell that well here because people would not know they exist, unless you are a car person and you know about these cars. I feel that is why Ford was thinking long and hard about selling the Focus RS in the United States. I feel like car people get so excited with some European or Japanese only model finally hits the North American market and then people come to find out it is not as good as they thought it would be. Then the car companies lose millions of dollars on a model that only sold an X amount of units in the United States. Car people, take note and don't get disappointed when some model of a car from a manufacturer does not sell that brand or model in the United States market. Like, with Peugeot thinking about coming back to the United States car market. Will Peugeot make it in the United States? Who knows. Let's just be thankful for the cars that we get in the United States that other countries do not get, like the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon or Ford F-150 Raptor. I am sure there are people in Europe that wish they got one of those two models in Europe.
My favourite car of the past decade! At the risk of having to drive Col de Turini again - is the road up to the mountain (I guess D68?) usually open to the public?

The US almost gets nothing cool from Europe...so all we can do is pray for one day

The Alpine in the colour just looks stunning. It will be interesting to see how the aftermarket scene alters these cars.
