dude… was totally coming back here to type this very thing. Was checking out some other car vids and needed that extra shot. Chris Harris and La Ferrari to the rescue!
there'd be a third party driver option on their (ferrari's or it's owners) insurance policy. Otherwise yeah no sane man would do anything like that haha
I'm so glad that you didn't just get on the street and within seconds, stomp on the gas, like a child, and declare it amazing simply because of how fast it takes off. Very professional to just feel it out as a street car first, then start working the car a bit, more and more. Classy.
This is the LaFerrari review we have all been waiting for, and it did not disappoint. Brilliant camera footage, especially the slow motion drifts. Pure poetry in motion. Chris' reviews are as enjoyable to watch as the reviews of the Top Gear trio. Chris would actually fit right in with the Top Gear trio if they ever wanted to add a fourth guy. He is as natural, animated and as genuinely excited to drive these works of art as they are. The advantage Chris has over the Top Gear trio is that nobody, except Tiff Needle from Fifth Gear, drives these cars as well as Chris. When seeing how vigorously he turns the steering wheel when drifting, it would seem strange why they designed a square steering wheel, which makes it more awkward to turn the steering wheel very fast while switching the position of your hands very quickly. Those doors are HUGE! The engine is very refined sounding, as one would expect a million dollar hyper car to sound - very sophisticated and not brutish like American muscle cars. But I still prefer the more refined sounding engine of the Ferrari F12. The refined sound the F12's engine emits is just pure music to the ears, which is why I think Chris Harris looked more excited when driving the Ferrari F12 with that glorious soundtrack of the engine in front of him, than with driving the LaFerrari. Although he definitely enjoys driving the LaFerrari too. And I agree with Chris that Ferrari F150 is a much more fitting name than LaFerrari, especially since not everyone will pronounce it like the Italians do - "LuhFerrari". The Americans are already pronouncing it in a way that sounds like "LaughFerrari". Besides, why name it "THE Ferrari" (as in the ultimate Ferrari), when there is inevitably going to be a LaFerrari replacement, which itself will be the new ultimate Ferrari?
All future Ferraris WILL be either turbo charged or hybrids. Its likely this will be the last naturally aspirated V12 engine that Ferrari ever make. So while the name may not sound fancy, it does make sense since going turbo will indeed mean that the pure uncorrupted feeling will be lost after this car and since it's the best Ferrari up to date it will be THE Ferrari in the future.
Salar Ahmed I really hope that Ferrari are not seriously thinking of doing away with naturally aspirated V12 or V8 engines, since what truly sets Ferrari apart from the rest is the characteristic rich full bodied refined exhaust note of those naturally aspirated engines. I see no reason at all to use conventional turbo fans when an electric motor acts like a turbo in every sense but with even quicker torque response and most importantly without distorting the exhaust note. The only advantage a turbo fan has is the awesome swooshing sounds of the turbo waste gates. But I prefer the rich full bodied refined sound of a naturaly aspirated Ferrari engine. If I want swooshing sounds, I will go for the awesome Pagani Huarya which makes sounds like Darth Vader's helmet makes lol.
+LamboFan don't u mean; *starts the projector, draws the curtains, dims the lights, turns up the amp, leans back the chair and then grabs the popcorn* ? :D
963hp, RWD, NA V12, hybrid powertrain. This is the culmination of the old and new and it's absolutely magnificent. The 918 and P1 just don't compare. I'd feel much more special driving this than either the 918 or P1.
or you simply prefer the p1 and 918? and you know that the p1 and 918 are faster than the laferrari? and you believe the laferrari doesnt look anywhere near as good as the p1 and 918?
Thanks Chris. I love the raw simplicity here. Nice to see a man with a machine he loves, making it go well. What a glorious noise it makes! Compelling viewing.
Even if U dont like Ferraris or think other cars are better, U can't ignore their obsession with quality and perfection of performance. Ferrari is tge best ib my eyes, if I was rich I would several of their cars.
Love watching this guy drive. All of these other car vloggers, TH-camrs need to take some lessons and then give it a go. It’s one thing to be able to own or “talk” about a car, another to be able to drive it and give a review. Awesome work!
For people outside there who talks shit about LaFerrari; 1) %99.9 of you will never get one of these in your lifetime 2) its an art piece, just respect for it. 3) Ferrari..İs always a Ferrari.
+Doğa Demircan I agree with everything which you said except for...99.9%. 100%, not 99.9%. All of them have already been sold. And even if they haven't been, no one of them will ever get a LaF.
With how exciting and fun it looks to drive, it's a crying shame that almost everyone who has one will never drive theirs even remotely like this, or at all in some cases.
ChrisHarrisOnCars i'm so glad you've gone solo. Drive is nothing without you, so kudos to you bro! the number of subscribers and viewers on your channel will surge my friend. Many thanks to you and your crew for producing these awesome videos and all the best to you! Cheers
Thanks for publishing this for us poor plebs. Personally I should prefer the P1 due to being a McLaren fanboy but there's just something mental awesome about the LaFerrari and it's ridiculous presence.
Both P1 and Laferrari are exceptionally amazing cars, but i think they have totally different characters . For me, P1 feels artificially good and it represents the most advanced techniques that mankind have for making cars, while the laferrari just feels naturally good and controlling it is just like controlling your own body.
Chris Harris can make any car over steer looking like a walk in the park while sipping wine and eating cheese. Thank you for the enjoyment for our pleasure !
Watching every episode of Chris Harris is like unwrapping a present every time. Never quite knowing what to expect, but knowing its gonna be brilliant nonetheless.
I suddenly realise how much I miss Top Gear. Not for there stupid messing around, but for the production. The insane high quality cameras. The background music, the super slowmotion shots.
BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT VIDEO!!!! THERE ARE NO OTHER THAT HAVE THE POINTED NESS THE CLEARITY AND PASSIONATE TRUENESS THAT I FEEL IN YOUR PRESENTATION. You are a star keep lettin it shine brighter and brighter my friend.
Something interesting is that when the electric motor is behind the transmission, you get 880 HP in 1st gear, 920 in 2nd and the full 960 from 3rd onwards and in 5th, 6th and 7th you actually get a bit more lower end torque than when you mount it on the crankshaft.
A bit of math -- superimpose the torque curves of the motor and the engine x gearing together and then calculate the HP. That's what happens if you mount the motor at the back of the transmission on the transaxle instead of at the front of it -- the P1 on the other hand has the electric motor connected through the crankshaft, so it's torque is multiplied by the gearbox and it's rpm is the same as (or directly proportional) to that of the engine, giving it 903 HP in all gears. That's also why the P1's E-mode responds to gearshifts and they can run E mode at any speed. But that's what allows the LaFerrari to eliminate transmission losses for it's electrical motor and recover energy even from the E-diff and under full braking and give it exceptional response even in higher gears. It would hardly matter in reality though as in the lower gears the Laferrari would spin it's wheels even at 1/4th throttle and the traction control will have to step in.
I have seen the torque curve of the engine from snippets of slides on other videos (It's remarkably flat). Other sites give the gear ratios. The electric motor's torque and power output is known and they have a flat curve till max power and then drop almost linearly. I made an assumption that the motor output is directly on the output shaft just at the back of the gearbox and I don't know if there is any gearing in between in the E-Diff -- if there is, then it will change my numbers -- so Equivalent torque at any rpm was = engine torque x gearing + Electric torque. Then multiply this by the angular velocity of the output shaft = Engine rpm x Gear Ratio . Then Torque x Angular Vel / 746 Watts = Equivalent HP. Peak power will come when the motor reaches a certain speed. When the engine is in an overdriven gear the electric motor isn't suffering a torque reduction, so you get more low end torque and in 5th gear may feel like 3rd or 4th. But in lower gears the motor is still not up to speed, so you get a little less. It's also why the Laferrari doesn't have an E-mode for anything above parking speeds -- it will be like driving a 160 HP car in 5th gear all the time. The Ferrari can even reverse the motor at will to act as a generator giving max regen in any gear.
For the P1, it's much more simple. The motor is on the crank. Net Torque = (Engine Torque + Motor Torque) x Gearing, so the total HP is the same in any gear. Also this is why the P1 can shift gears even in E Mode. This means the P1 will just have the edge in acceleration over the Ferrari, but you must be in the right gear, this is critical. There's also turbo lag if your gear is too high and rpm too low (below 2500-3000 rpm). If a P1 and a LaFerrari are both going 30 mph in 6th and both try to accelerate, the Laferrari will eat the P1 for lunch. Also the first 3 gears of the P1 are shorter than the Laferrari, the 6th longer and 7th much longer. That and the Race mode with narrower tires mean that the P1 will accelerate a bit harder when launched -- therefore from a standing start, the P1 will win. But the Laferrari will have superior regeneration options of all the 3 cars, that's why they get away with a much smaller battery pack than the other 2. But if you are going to do 30-100 mph in 7th, the 918 will win, then the LaFerrari and the P1 will be a long way behind.
Drove one on Assetto Corsa on a road much like the one in the video...it was the only car I ever drove all the way to the finish line with a smile on my face. Too bad I'll never be able to drive one irl.
Fun Fact: This is what Mr Chris does for a living. In other words, he is "at work," as he RROOOOOARS around the corners & straightaways in this beast of a car. This is what "Heaven on Earth" looks like!
nope. watch his video comparing the 918 to P1 to Ferrari. He chose the P1 and kind of changed his mind to the Ferrari at the end. The 918 wasn't in the mix for first place, for him
@Chris Harris, the 918 is heavier and less powerful and still it was already faster (on track/Evo Mag and in a straight line/Autocar Mag) than the P1 on road legal tires. So maybe the P1 and La Ferrari are as you said in a league of their own, but imho in a league BELOW the 918 from an engineering point of view. the 918 is as fast if not faster in the real world with less power and more weight. As the only REAL hybrid of the 3, it is a much much greater achievement technically imho and it´s is still the King of the Ring.
from an engineering point of view, it's exactly the opposite. just take a look at the official datas: declared top speed: *LF* >350 km/h - *918* around 340 km/h. power: *LF* 708 kw (950 bhp / 963 ps) - *918* 652 kw (875 bhp / 887 ps) curb weight: *LF* 1345 kg - *918* 1640 kg power/weight: *LF* 706 bhp/tonne - *918* 533 bhp/tonne torque is the only stat in favour of 918 (1068 Nm (790 lb-ft) while LF produce 700 Nm (518 lb-ft)). so *THEORICALLY* speaking, LaFerrari is in a league *equal* if not *above* 918. get your facts straight before talking.
On EVO track, only Porsche (from a private customer) let the journalists time a lap around their truck without adjusting settings like fuel specs or tyres type and pressure. This resulted in a close but faster lap for the 918 than the P1 (in my opinion not a really important gap). Than McLaren was informed about it and the day next they sent an equipe to the track to make EVO journalists repeat the test, but this time with the more sticky and performing Pirelli Trofeo tyres and probably some other small adjustments: this resulted in an almost-two-seconds faster lap for the McLaren. Porsche, however, didn't replyed by sending any "refining team", probably because they settled a faster lap on Nurburgring truck and also because simply it could start to became a stupid battle for nothing. People should consider that tyres type and some particular whether conditions can drammaticaly change the performance of a car on a truck, and I think that what Ferrari's or McLaren's (and even Porsche's in the Nurburgring lap time recording) mechanics teams do with press is simply to optimize details like those mentioned above to get the best experience from the car in the moment they test it. Of course no car manufacturer likes to read that their top-performing car is slower than another competitor's one, whence these "cheating behaviours". However, I think that these three cars are really close in performance, but in different ways, and this could result in getting different lap times classification in different circuits. For exapmle, probably LaFerrari is the fastest one in a high speed truck like Monza, the P1 probably is the fastest at Silverstone and in a complex truck with many corners like Nurburgring the 918 is quicker than the opponents because of the greater torque and the 4WD traction. But I think it makes no sense to look for the generally speaking "fastest car" of the three. No doubt about they are three great cars and if you have enough money, simply you shoud buy the one you like more, or the one that gives you stronger feelings.
***** It wasn't that clear to be honest. He said it was more grippy, but that's just his own opinion. Besides, Porsche could send even slicker tires to them and they could go back and forth like that. What counts is the initial result on default tires in my opinion.
So the first test for the McLaren was on stock tyres but the Porsche had stickier tyres and encluding its 4 wheel traction advantage it was only 0.2 of second difference. I'm all for the Ferrari but the P1 is making a slouch of the 918 at the moment
Everybody does it. But somehow it's more fun to accuse Ferrari all the time. I think when you're nr 1 everybody is after you. It's actually understandable.
bezor Ta not everyone, corvette does it, Porsche, bmw don't do it, look at nurburgring times of normal drivers they are close to official times, dam ur stupid
Club Bmw Amg An average driver's time close to official factory time with a pro driver? lol, another stupid fan. Damn, there are so many of you out there.
lol, so many accuse Ferrari for cheating and now poor Chris for jumping ship and selling himself to Ferrari. I get it that everyone is after you when you're nr 1. But some of the accusations and rumors about Ferrari are getting ridiculous. Does it really hurt that much if your favorite brand is nr 2? First: Chris never said Ferrari tune their engines for journalist but set up the cars as best as they can for the specific track to get the most out of them. He said the cars are already great and Ferrari doesn't need to do this micro management. Second: Mclaren recently went even further with EVO when P1 got beaten by 918 on the track and Mclaren demanded another chance and run with a set of stickier tires. And this time P1 was faster than 918. Hello??? Everybody wants their car to be at best possible and do whatever they can, don't fool yourself thinking Mclaren and Porsche being holier. Porsche needed ONE month (30 days) of testing at the Ring with a mountain of tires and different tuning of 918 to get that record time on the Ring, their OWN BACKYARD. How much do you thing a team of technicians, drivers and necessary gear cost for a month and all the preparations before that? All this according to Porsche themselves. So ease on the hating for Ferrari still being nr 1. After all, they work hard to stay nr 1 and people should acknowledge all the effort and hard work.
Everybody has their own way of processing these issues. The cars that are used for tests are optimized not tuned like most think. No isn't cheating in my book but others will say differently. Chris made some comments many keep dredging up about Ferrari. People do change and things do the same as with life in general. The Brand stuff I'm not into that endless debate most will drag you in.Prestige and heritage of Ferrari can't be denied. They should be very proud. Of course most will disagree how they treat their cars and the reviews. P1 has less overall grip to 918 and LaFerrari front to rear. In race mode the freakish aero grip can only be felt at say 100mph and above. Speeds under this a better tire is needed especially on a small track like Evo ran P1. 918 has for more grip then P1 due Cups2, 4WD and bigger size tires. LaFerrari has bigger Corsa's then P1. Point here LaFerrari is closer in grip to 918 then P1 at lower speeds. LaFerrari has a very low center of gravity also. This aids in grip with active aero. Combination gives LaFerrari incredible balance. Still no real tests to prove any of my points concerning LaFerrari on track. Even with R's 918 still has slightly more grip then P1 at lower speeds. Once at higher speeds thing start to change. The Auto Car article goes into details of this aero stuff vs 918. Your last point of Porsche massive spending is right on.You are leaving out all the test miles on the Ring of 918. Add them up probably more then LaFerrari and P1 put together easily. The 30 day push doesn't get mention of course. You could throw them with Nissan as far as Ring Development. I heard they have rented out 1 the on site garages to test all cars. This isn't for free at all. Can't say cheating I'll get nailed but it does raise some questions. The 918 WS many have said isn't what you are buying. Roof is fixed due to rigidity issues. Some say the suspension was modified for the bumps. You can hear it in the Ring video.Had some falls outs lately of the car. My comments are based on mostly facts not talk. Some get offended and try personal attacks. Ferrari has built some damn good cars. These new emissions and eco stuff they will have to get used to.The engineers will need some very clever ideas. Governments not hearing this recent talk of not liking turbos.
Jeffrey Williams Very valid points. Good to get a balanced response instead of angry attacks. It's just cars but people get all worked up and angry if you don't agree with them 100%. I'm a Ferrari fan but I'm also the first to admit some of their cars were not any good. I never hate on other cars but have the right to criticize. Unfortunately some people will hate you for tiniest criticism of their favorite brand.
bezor Ta It's very hard to have a constructive conservation on here. Most can't handle any kind of truth or your own opinion. These are just cars, companies trying to sell for profit. Everyone wants to be the best but doesn't work out as planned sometimes. Had some 918 fall outs lately. I love when they say this GREAT German engineering. My come back is you know all this engineering does cost. 918 when all said and done could be well in the billions with cost/spending. It better be Great engineering with such kind of funding.
Jeffrey Williams That is a good point that most never think about. Porsche is not just Porsche anymore. Now they got the backing from VW group with almost endless resources. If you compare that with Mclaren and Ferrari resources, it's no contest. Ferrari's economy is not connected to Fiat group (Fiat group is not exactly rich anyway) and Mclaren is just Mclaren. Ferrari and Mclaren together don't sell 1/30 of what Porsche alone sells. So yes, with all the resources spend on 918 and all the endless testing on the ring, it better be great engineering.
bezor Ta Let me back track to where Porsche actually started with this Hybrid stuff. If you were to add this with 918 costs probably could be build a whole bunch of P1's and LaFerrari's for all, lol. Porsche developed GT3 R Hybrid race car for Lemans.I wouldn't doubt R&D on that baby still more then P1 and LaFerrari combined. 918 RSR was there too. Only difference was the small V8 in the 918. Think of the test mules Porsche used in this process with Williams. Number here would break most companies easily. Now throw in the 918 costs. I was on the forums 1 day. Someone stated of Porsche having something like 25 918 test mules. The 1's being reviewed weren't mentioned but maybe part of that fleet also. Each 1 of those babies cost more then the production cars. They only built some 918 in total. Cost of each was below 1 mil. Total the actually 918, we looking at some 900 million Euros. The WS package sold the most so price jumped a little. Could be more in US still the price is there with what Ferrari and Mclaren sold in total. Throw in the 918 mules they are more then Mclaren and Ferrari. Even with the track models of Mclaren and Ferrari. Porsche still is ahead in most categories. You have throw in LaFerrari mules plus P1 to get past total of 918's. This is beyond laughable on 918 side.Ferrari building 40 FXX K and Mclaren around 30. Cost here about 210 million. Amount pushes P1 and LaFerrari over 1 billion in price area. Still no word on how many LaFerrari spyders will be built. They will likely cost more then Coupe version. At the end here you can pretty much see Porsche is about great spending not this claimed GREAT Engineering.
If I were a billionaire I would collect all 6 Ferrari flagship models. 250 gto, 288 gto, f40, f50, Enzo and LaFerrari and collect the rest for as long as I live. Then when I die, in my will, I want all of them to be sold and money given to charity.

Yes, disable ad blockers please. He is doing this channel for us but it needs to be able to support it's self and be self sufficient. Drive cost Mr.Harris quite a bit, if he just broke even it still wouldn't be worth the time the fact is that he lost money on drive. Blame TH-cam for being greedy and blame the viewers for using ad blockers .That is why it needs to be paid for by viewers. It's not just about Chris being worth it , it's about the cars. For many of us it's as close as we will get to many of these automobiles. For many people on TH-cam it's their way of income and they pay for production. The least I can do is not cut them off at the knees by employing ad blockers. If I have to sit through a few seconds of B.S. to help out all the great folks of TH-cam that entertain and inform me, is the very least I can do.
Thanks Chris for a real driving performance test and not stationary car wanker review. Good on the guys for allowing you to show the rest of us what the car can do. Excellent!
You are definately my fav auto reviewer - and test pilot Chris!! I remember your co-pilot video in the Lancia vids tho, that was pretty cool, your words 'I will let the masters drive'.
Great video Chris, I love Ferrari's, I even use to want one, then I started reading about the Porsche and I never looked back. I work on my own cars so I had to go with the Porsche because I can afford to share with others by videoing my service and maintenance of the Porsche and loading it onto my channel, but thanks for this trip down memory lane of a car I once wanted.
Just watching him between 6:00 and 7:00 on that set of switchbacks through the hills was the best I've seen since a very old film of Dan Gurney & Bob Bondurant in Cobras, at Targa Florio in 1965. It looked like "high-speed ballet!!"
"China urban area are among the cleanest..." apart from the mainlanders shitting in public. China's tourists are so badly educated that your government hands out books on international etiquette. Form a queue for once, you uncivilized people.
Exactly what he said, almost no where you live that you can really explore the limits of your car. I have a honda Vtec and 95% of the time i cant hit 5500 rpm to engage. I can only imagine a super car.
One thing I wish the La Ferrari had was paddle shifters attached to the actual steering wheel and not on the sides, that way you could always know where they are, and they would always be in the same spot, no matter how hard you're turning the wheel. Doesn't really matter either way since I'll probably never drive it, just seems like it would be nice to have.
+lgthrill763 the reason for rectangle like steering wheels is for leg room and visibility through the windshield and gauges, especially when you sit so low to the ground.
Since it’s release in 2013 I finally had the pleasure to own and drive this masterpiece last night but then I woke up this morning and drove to work in my HONDA.
The positive side is : in my life I do have enough time to afford something like this. If someone has , I can have too. This is a fact. Soon I will own a Ferrari.
Hey look, the guy who said that ferrari tunes his car for the press is now sitting in a ferrari and reviewing it, why? Don't you know that ferrari tunes his car for the press and you are not testing the stock one but a tuned version? totally no sense
So what? It was a very valid objection of his. They didn't change anything in terms of behavior, so what is he going to do, not review the car when given the opportunity (he was actually blacklisted by Ferrari for quite a while. Maybe that changed when he bought his own Ferrari)? Who benefits from him not reviewing the cars? We don't & he doesn't either. Sometimes you simply can't change the realities of the world and the best you can hope for is to affect change by keeping the dialogue open instead of a principled stand that excludes further contact.
mrm95 So he is telling us that this car is amazing, supe rfast, super advanced super evrything and he knows that this car isn't actually the car that they sell. So where is the point? Is like testing a tuned golf tdi 1.9 and spending all the time saying "wow, this car is fantastic!" but who cares? Im going to purchase the stock version not a tuned version so his reviews remains pointless because of his statment on ferrari
adrian I don't disagree, but you're taking it to extremes. The support crew doesn't make it a new car. They simply ensure that the car is optimized for the conditions. I completely agree that it's rather lame for Ferrari to micro manage their own products this much, but again, if they do, your responsibility as a journalist is simply to inform the public (which he has done & others have as well) and get on with it. What other solution is there? Not reviewing the car punishes us & him more than it does Ferrari.
mrm95 Don't get me wrong, i exaggereted on purpose... I was just trolling a bit all of those people who do not understand that sending a team of engineers and different set of tires does not mean that ferrari tunes the engines of their cars or something like that
Alo Chris you are a hell of a driver with a hell of a car thanks for sharing your wonderful performance with the common of mortals from Carlos Portugal
Am I the only who comes back to watch old vids from Chris cuz there’s nothing else like it 😂
no
Absolutely!!!!!!
dude… was totally coming back here to type this very thing. Was checking out some other car vids and needed that extra shot. Chris Harris and La Ferrari to the rescue!
you are not alone my friend
I like the clean face...haha
Drifting a 1.5m dollar without a worry. Like a boss
AND talking about the handling characteristics lol, the man is a driving god..
I hear he managed to drift tractors.
This car for drifting bro no use to keep in showcase.

Chris Harris is a true man
drifting a 1.6mill car on public roads... balls
more like $3.5M now
+Alex try 4.5mill - 5mill
I'm pretty sure it's like taking a brisk walk in the park for Mr Harris!
Ferre94a Still.. thats a mighty rough, you broke it you bought it situations...lol
there'd be a third party driver option on their (ferrari's or it's owners) insurance policy. Otherwise yeah no sane man would do anything like that haha
Still watching this in 2021. Still gives me chills.
I come back to these videos and always smile
one of the few videos where you can hear that v12 sing

There's something very Tiff-like about Chris Harris, which is just about the best compliment i can think of.
963hp, RWD, NA V12, hybrid powertrain. This is the culmination of the old and new and it's absolutely magnificent. The 918 and P1 just don't compare. I'd feel much more special driving this than either the 918 or P1.
So good: I could watch this on loop. Thank You, Chris, for sharing your love.
This is the best introduction of the LaFerrari ever. It just sticks you to the video as the chassis sticks it to the ground.

P1 and 918 is what you buy, when you can't get a LaFerrari. The record breaking V12 gives a huge advantage because it got so much character.

Also much more drivable as the power band is very linear.

Compelling viewing.
Even if U dont like Ferraris or think other cars are better, U can't ignore their obsession with quality and perfection of performance. Ferrari is tge best ib my eyes, if I was rich I would several of their cars.

Great work Chris. Simple the best car. The way the Laferrari goes sideways is an art sculpture in motion.
I love Chris Harris car videos I have to say your my favourite top gear presenter and car presenter I love them all but you too it for me.
It's amazing that a car as incredible as this has an automatic transmission. What a time to live in!
Im so in love with this pearl with wheels omg!

Something interesting is that when the electric motor is behind the transmission, you get 880 HP in 1st gear, 920 in 2nd and the full 960 from 3rd onwards and in 5th, 6th and 7th you actually get a bit more lower end torque than when you mount it on the crankshaft.
Where did you get this info from?
Fantastic info, thank you for this. How did you calculate the power output per gear exactly, if I may ask? I'm a bit of a noob in mathematics
Most cars in that game drive just as Chris said they do. Like the FXX K, it’s gear changes are spot on!!
Ah shit, looks like Chris and Ferrari are finally getting along again!
Thank you for this awesome sauce review.
Man, I never get tired of this video, here I am 8 years later, and Chris Harris is still my favorite Brit.

This is what "Heaven on Earth" looks like!
He likes the 918 more than the LaFerrari. Why you might ask? Because his profile picture is taken from this video at 9:18
#HiddenMessage
Vethursan1 Thats pretty interesting
Why? It doesn't sound anywhere near as good.
Its because Porsche is the best car marque in history...hands down.
@D B derp
nope. watch his video comparing the 918 to P1 to Ferrari.
As the only REAL hybrid of the 3, it is a much much greater achievement technically imho and it´s is still the King of the Ring.
from an engineering point of view, it's exactly the opposite.
just take a look at the official datas:
declared top speed: *LF* >350 km/h - *918* around 340 km/h.
power: *LF* 708 kw (950 bhp / 963 ps) - *918* 652 kw (875 bhp / 887 ps)
curb weight: *LF* 1345 kg - *918* 1640 kg
power/weight: *LF* 706 bhp/tonne - *918* 533 bhp/tonne
torque is the only stat in favour of 918 (1068 Nm (790 lb-ft) while LF produce 700 Nm (518 lb-ft)).
so *THEORICALLY* speaking, LaFerrari is in a league *equal* if not *above* 918.
get your facts straight before talking.
***** The Porsche 918 produces 944 lb ft of torque.
911JEC that's the Weissach-Package version
***** Both versions have the same powertrain. Only difference is the Weissach package is 40 kilo's lighter.
911JEC wrong. check fastestlaps.com
*****
It wasn't that clear to be honest.
What a life. Still a great review of one helluva car.
Chris you're the best. Please keep what you're doing. I can't get enough of you
the fact that he looks so excited and hops in wearing a vans shirt is just great
lol, so many accuse Ferrari for cheating and now poor Chris for jumping ship and selling himself to Ferrari.
So yes, with all the resources spend on 918 and all the endless testing on the ring, it better be great engineering.
bezor Ta
Let me back track to where Porsche actually started with this Hybrid stuff.
12:19 that's a real drift, full lock in effect

Yes, disable ad blockers please. He is doing this channel for us but it needs to be able to support it's self and be self sufficient.

Half of the LaFerraris are gone, the chinese owners crashed them at 25mph.
good news for the other half
HAhahahah alşsdkşalskdsa :D
slums in chin? nonexistent? lol you're dreaming

Whats the song at last 1 minute of the video?
Great video and Amazing Car!!! Made me nervous watching! haha
Name was silly then, not silly anymore. It really is THE Ferrari.
The best car review ever!
Exactly what he said, almost no where you live that you can really explore the limits of your car. I have a honda Vtec and 95% of the time i cant hit 5500 rpm to engage. I can only imagine a super car.
Why 208 unlike?? what for?? its a masterpiece is art. for me the best car in the world.. Whyyyyyyyyyy????????
Because barely anyone can afford 1.7 mill. Me? I can buy 8
Some people just wanna see the world burn...
KingKrap They're all sold. You can buy none.
ThatOneGuy I bought 5 instead of 8
***** You both lie~~~ I bought all and I am having them secretly make a newer design now with full leather seats! lol
I’d be scared to drive something that powerful. But excited.
+Zack Arts i was thinking the same thing
+lgthrill763 the reason for rectangle like steering wheels is for leg room and visibility through the windshield and gauges, especially when you sit so low to the ground.
Since it’s release in 2013 I finally had the pleasure to own and drive this masterpiece last night but then I woke up this morning and drove to work in my HONDA.
Chris ... I'm living vicariously through you, thank you for the great posts!
The positive side is : in my life I do have enough time to afford something like this. If someone has , I can have too. This is a fact. Soon I will own a Ferrari.
the driving of this guy is something else. I wish i can drive like that someday
Chris looks like a 6 yr old on christmas day :)
That was fantastic. Very jealous. Insane performance. You are a superb driver, dude.
The slow motion shots are beautiful.
You can't go wrong with either of the 3 new hyper cars.
Hey look, the guy who said that ferrari tunes his car for the press is now sitting in a ferrari and reviewing it, why? Don't you know that ferrari tunes his car for the press and you are not testing the stock one but a tuned version? totally no sense
I like how you summed up your comment: "totally no sense"... Why wouldn't he take the ride even knowing they might pre-tune it? WHY WOULDN'T ANYONE?

Don't get me wrong, i exaggereted on purpose... I was just trolling a bit all of those people who do not understand that sending a team of engineers and different set of tires does not mean that ferrari tunes the engines of their cars or something like that
Harris looks so happy! Who wouldn’t be? Thanks for the pleasure from the full bag of potatoes !!:)))
Chris is the best car journalist ever! There is just nobody like him.
🏆 What a beautiful sound to hear, thank you !
I did Not want this Test Drive to end :'( ... :D
I was expecting him to start with quirks and features...... damn you Doug!!
Doug, the type of guy that gets mentioned in the comments of every car video.
This dude has one of the greatest jobs on the planet.....
He gets out of the urban traffic and puts it sideways around the hills on public roads.
Bravo 👏
Alo Chris you are a hell of a driver with a hell of a car thanks for sharing your wonderful performance with the common of mortals from Carlos Portugal
Time to take mr. Clarkson's spot on top gear.
He's more of a 5th Gear style presenter. Not funny enough for Top Gear
Richard Flood He was on 5th Gear a couple of weeks ago
He's practicing for his big top gear intro.
