Hi Dave, I was the driver of the Red and Black Audi who netcoded the maniac in the Lambo. I backed out of my overtake attempt, and the sim did not record any contact at my end. I guess that guy was hunting for me on the track, but I had no idea that all that wrecking was going on! Sorry to everyone who got taken out!
Its actually hard to believe that you're a middle aged man given how childish you are dave, you clearly spun the merc off and all you had to say was no touchy touchy, not even a 0x!

From what i see ,he was kicked off by his team (kudos to them) just after your video was released.
*PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENT* Nim Cross has stated on several occasions that if you are a registered iRacing member and through a video such as this or watching a live stream on Twitch, you are fully capable of also reporting these actions, you DO NOT have to be in the race itself, you just have to be an active iRacing member. So report away boys, drivers like this hurt iRacing and do nothing to promote the safe and fun environment that we all pay for.
I'm 3 month into IRacing and have found the racing the most civil of all online racing, so far. Yes you get the usual incidents but my fear of being simply rear punted for position which happens alot in other sims, is becoming a distant memory. I've happily paid more for this than any other sim and continue to do so, more than I would like to disclose to my good wife.
SO yes I am very happy to see people who cant control themselves face the music. Sim racing only works with mutual respect, genuine apology and forgiveness.

The cost of iRacing and the likelihood of losing investment in the platform does make for better behaved races. In that regard, it is just like real life - real race cars are expensive. However, in the defence of other titles I would like to point out private and ranked servers rarely have the level of silliness you see on public servers. iRacing's cost and ranking system tends to make their "public" servers more like private servers.

Do you know everyone can see Tom Speed2 as the name of the guy crashing the others? Watch from 8:40 and take a look at the relative. Lapped car standing at the left of the track. Hopefully this behaviour is not really a part of your personality.

On the “talking points”
- I think there are 3 sides to the 3 wide story. Inside car was the furthest back, he could see the other 2 and knew they wouldn’t all fit. Dave put himself in the middle, to pass the car on the inside he needed space that didn’t exist due to the outside car. Outside car would have had an idea all 3 cars were there and being overlapped realistically was always going to come off worst with any contact.
Inside could have back out and given the other 2 the corner.
Dave could have backed out giving the other 2 the corner
Outside car could have abandoned the corner and tried to bleed the slowdown while maintaining position (at worst stayed with the other 2)
Ironically nobody is to blame, but anybody could have avoided the incident (hindsight is a wonderful thing)
- regarding the lambo, the incident and subsequent reaction demonstrates the absolute loss of cool that can happen. Would they have done the same in rl, no. Regardless of any comments made after I just hope they have calmed down and get to a point they can acknowledge a time they didn’t react in the best way. If you read my comment, I hope you find something that makes you smile soon. I won’t say your a bellend I have no idea who you are or what you’ve done with your life outside 10 minutes of this race and a few hours venting in a forum. But you certainly acted like one here. Maybe take some advice from a gambling advert and when the fun stops… or have a kitkat…

@@paulwalker4919 It always seems that way to me initially, but I found this was only true because I remembered the times my car was badly damaged and forgot the times when it was perfectly drivable afterwards.
Yes....I watched the whole incident and though that after the first initial stunt, his front end should have been damaged and his car dead in the water so to speak..
I wish iracing was tougher on people like that guy than they are. Ive been in splits with people who are similar and ive reported them and i usually check on their account activity regularly after the protest has been "resolved" and i usually find that theyre still racing away with minimal punishment or maybe a warning. The thing is, If any of the guys in the initial incident were using direct drive wheels with the FFB turned up fairly high it really is a serious accident and could result in broken wrists/thumbs depending on the wheel in a worst case scenario. iRacing need to ban people like this for a very long time if not indefinitely. If it was just one incident you can excuse it but this is crystal clear every single incident was intentional. Id love nothing more than that account to be permanently banned and for him to lose every penny he has spent on that account after doing something like that. Some might find that harsh but he needs to be gone for good in my eyes.
That was always the big selling point about iRacing - it's got enough cost to it to make being a troll a financially bad decision.
For a premium service like iRacing it would be nice if they were using more energy on protests and giving the proper suspension or whatever. It seems like the only real crime you can do in iRacing is to swear in the iRacing chat! That'll raise der eyebrows. :-(

Hi Dave, im the yellow merc. I think its a bit unfair to even consider blaming me for this incident as some of commenting people did. I was almost full car ahead at braking zone, at entry and mid corner. There was no noticable overlap for You but still i entered this corner as wide as it was possible for me keeping space for atleast one of You. Even if i would go wider, you would propably force me out of track. Still You put your nose there in the way i couldnt react or predict. And yes, its propably a racing incident and im not mad or anything. Stay cool and see You on track again ;)
As a neutral I agree with this, it made it difficult for Dave to avoid contact since he was also being squeezed from the right and hence couldn’t take a tighter line

I am a stewarding manager at an ACC league with numerous levels of skill levels. We've managed to have a good set of rules and one of the biggest ones would impact you.
I would most likely hand you a penalty. We've got a rule which requires attacking cars to be hub-to-hub with defending car before turn in, this is also under the stewards decision. Hub-to-hub means that the attacking cars front wheel hub aligns alongside or in front of the defending cars rear wheel hub. In your case the Merc has the right of line, from my point of view and our ruleset.
This is used mostly to prevent divebombing and trying to have a consistent system as possible, but nothing can be black and white in stewarding racing. Everything is mostly in a grey area and we use our rules (we even got a flowchart) as to help stewards with finding a consistent evaluation as possible.

They were 3 wide for the last half of the straight, no one owned the corner/racing line under those circumstances. They all owed each other racing room, but the Merc likely thought they were 2 wide rather than 3 wide and tried to use too much track on turn in.

Taking a deep look at the incident, as you mentioned, it's a bit of a grey area.
- for a very short amount, but Dave didn't seem to get to hub-to-hub distance. So yeah, not the best choice
- but i don't see a real touch, it seems like a netcode to me, specially in aerial view
- I guess Merc heard a "car right", but thought it was on the far right, not in the middle, a little bit of a check your mirror failure for him. Maybe never figured out he was in a "three wide", as the inner car surrendered before Dave was close enough to the Merc
From my point of view, maybe a light penalty or race incident...
From the title I was just wincing waiting for Mario to take you out from that bit of contact in T1, but was glad to see he was a good sport after such a close race

I just saw the "crash" in the first chicane (without seeing what came next). I have to say that your decision to start going 3 wide at around 200 marker was very unlucky, to say the least, and in the best case scenario all of you would have lost time. There was simply no place for a safe overtake at that point. Anyway, keep the good content coming ;)

The guy who was on pole is a V8 supercar driver. He was in the e-series they ran last year. Mario is a name I’ve seen about my league - pretty sure I’ve raced him at some stage.

I'm surprised at your comment about last week's tracks Dave. I would think a racer of your skill would welcome the challenges. 😉 I'm not very fast but I do enjoy Mid-Ohio for one. 😊 I've just been getting back into iracing this past year after some health issues had slowed me down prior, but determined to learn some new tracks (to me) including Monza, so I enjoyed this. 😊
Mid-Ohio would be a far better track IRL if the weather was less unpredictable.
In mere minutes, clear skies can turn to gusty winds and violent rain. It makes tire choice quite a gamble.
The Merc was definitely giving you room Dave he had to turn at some stage and didn't take normal line but give you room. You were just coming from too far back to make that overtake.

It's a racing incident. The Merc didn't probably know it was basically three wide. Maybe Dave was a hair too hot into the corner but things happen in racing and there's not always someone to blame.
That Lambo guy needs to be perma banned, there should be zero tolerance for that kind of behaviour.

Another guy who'd been a paying member of iRacing for 12 years was recently suspended indefinitely for a "road rage" incident after another driver took him out. It was less than this, as it was just that driver he was angry with. But this guy just tried to ruin everybody's race. So if he doesn't get a permanent ban, then there's something wrong with the decision-makers.
Incidentally, why I prefer games like iRacing and ACC over something like GT Sport is the fact that you don't ghost. So, if you go off track, you have to be courteous to other drivers and rejoin safely.

Yeah, no where near what this maniac did. However, through his own admission it was accumulation of intentional incidents. Having said that, they were from years ago, and he made an honest effort to clean up his act...moreover he was repeatedly nuked and iRacing just called it an incident...when clearly they were intentionally taking or attempting to take him out..so I can see how the inconsistency could get to a person, finally delivering some Street Justice, so to speak.
I think that your driving hrs on track should come into play mitigating any punishment handed down, as when you put thousands of hrs on track..there are bound to be intentional incidents.
I liked his idea of a points system....I know on its face it sounds redundant as there is a safety rating...but if someone has a high safety rating that has continued to climb, then imho the punishment handed out should not only reflect the crime but the historical career record. Or at the very least...incidents that happened years in the past be used against you in a future incident.
My opinion with the Merc, as much as it sucks, it was his corner, you were not far enough into him in order for him to reasonably expect you to commit to that.
Horrible behaviour from that guy in the replays, glad you reported him Dave! In ACC he'd still be in the pits from his Ascari shenanigans, and also would've had to pit after sending it on those 2 guys at the 2nd chicane as his car would be undrivable.
Nice race, Hate when I wreck someone by accident and visa versa but that is racing, they wreck in the real thing too !!! shame about the the guy in there wrecking everyone on purpose. That's a whole different matter, hope he gets a nice long stay in the penalty box

@Tom Speed No respect, no social life possible. But it’s probably too hard for you to understand. Dave makes a little mistake, and he apologizes. You kill everyone, and then you insult people... Fortunately, iRacing admins are watching. One or two more actions like this, and you won’t be a problem.
I just stumbled across this video, and I am 100% for having people like this kicked out. However, because I wasn't in the session with this guy, I have to admit I cracked up laughing at how the yellow Ferrari was thrown over the fence, just like in GTA Online game. On a serious note, iRacing should consider a long-time ban for such behaviour and a permanent ban if it happens again. In all honesty, if you think about it, most racers are investing big dollars in building a sim rig, paying a lot of money for the content, membership, and spending a great deal of time practising and learning to enjoy themselves iRacing careers.
That incident with the merc was caused by latency more than anything
On your side you didn't touch him, but on his side the prediction model put your car a bit ahead of where it actually was, so in his side you touched and spun him
Such is the nature of online real-time racing over large distances, there's not much to be done there except trying to give more space than you'd in real life

When he said that, Dave was relying on the fact he did NOT receive a 0x for Contact with another vehicle.
Upon reviewing the incident, Dave acknowledged there was indeed contact. Dave makes mistakes sometimes, but he tends to be a gentleman about it.

I respectfully disagree with that policy. iRacing should apply punishments based solely on a person's behavior "on track." They should not be judging a person's overall "character." If they did, the punishments would be subjective and capricious.
That being said, if a player's comments on a TH-cam video influence his reputation, then other players are more likely to report him.
I think it was a racing incident, but the yellow Merc should've blocked your path in the middle before the corner regardless. Just move a bit in the middle so there is no space for you. He probably simply didn't expect you going for that space, though.
as for the fist incident, I'd say it's a racing incident too. you can see the yellow Merc turned in such that there would have only been space for one extra car, so I would say he expected someone to back out completely there, and made the wrong gamble.
EDIT: actually, watching it again.. you weren't even next to him yet before the braking point. I think he probably expected you to back out then

I'd rather they remove it completely, keep the slow downs. It makes no sense for an off limit to affect your safety rating
I've been looking at taking up iRacing for a while but so often I watch videos by yourself, DDF Racer, etc & the races seem to attract people who for whatever reason feel wronged in some way during the race, be it net code or an accidental touch, so just disrupt others out of anger, frustration, whatever.....very poor & not my idea of enjoyable racing, as usual the minority spoiling things for all the good people. Hopefully it'll improve but I think there are too many people with fragile egos & latent road rage online. Good race by you & Mario though, nice protracted battle & very much conducted in a spirit of fair play & genuine competition.
I suspect the yellow merc didn't realise you were 3 wide. He gave room for you but prob didn't realise you couldn't take that space due to the third car on the inside
Let separate the reactions from the incidents for a sec. 2 key incidents getting the attention in this race, one where lambo was knocked off track by someone going up the inside and not getting there, the other with Dave up the inside of the merc and not getting there. Both incidents resulted in the car outside being knocked out.
Both in my opinion caused by overly aggressive driving from the car behind into a corner they thought an overtake was on. By all means have a crack at the overtake, but if you cant get the job done and leave a tiny nose to tail overlap with the guy in front you know 9 times outa 10 its ending in tears. In real world with human scrutineering both drivers coming from behind would be penalised. If you get to a point where you have considerable overlap on the car in front go for it, but if you don’t then any issues are on you. Get your font wheel in front of their back wheel and you’re on, not just for a split second in a dive bomb either. Responsibility is on the guy behind. Neither driver coming from behind in these incidents is on their own. Absolutely every driver who had done more than about 20 races has been involved in something like this, from both sides.
The reactions. As demonstrated here, iRacing generates great passion, adrenaline, and frustration. I absolutely love it, the satisfaction it can give requires the potential for that frustration to be there. Yes lambos reaction was way over the top. Way over mate, both on track and in here. Sure penalties should apply, but I do hope your back into it sooner rather than later. We who race iRacing have all felt that frustration. I very often feel it in situations like this were someone causing an accident jumps to the ‘It’s a racing incident’, or ‘that was Netcode’ excuse. I very often see incidents like this where it is a very fast driver like Dave with high iRating who has learned all the ins and outs of iRacing competitive advantage and utilises them. Ive seen people quit races cause they felt so bad about a crash they caused, the feeling can go both ways, and so it should. Kinda easy though to brush it off when your the one driving away, harder when you sitting in the pits.
Ideal world every race would have human scrutineering, and penalties would be applied as per each situation. I have no problem though with the iRacing no fault policy, a computer cant make these judgements and if it tried people would quickly learn the exploits of it. Ideal world theres no Netcode, but in the game there is and you have to allow for the possibility of it if you really want a SIM experience, rather than an arcade one.

RR seems a lot easier than ACC. Cars act much more calm on the curbs, also turning after hard breaking seems easier.

Had a similar situation at Spa recently. We were approaching Les Combes and I was in the inside. I was 100% on brakes when he started to turn across me into apex. I clipped him and he spun. Maybe he thought I'd give him the corner but I think he should have taken a wider line to avoid contact. I had nowhere to go when he suddenly turned straight in. A classic racing incident but I believe he blamed me because he rage quit. Or didn't actually, hes car sat on the grass for the whole race, lol.
Dave when i sign up for a race, im in C license and when its all over i see there are a bunch of A and B people there, they do not get credit for racing in a C race? or do they?
They do. Every official rating counts toward the irating, safety rating and championship points. But, you need to race at least 4 races in your license before you can move to a higher license.

Depends where they finish in the race, they will score points if they finish in the points.
As stated they still earn safety and iRating points, but it doesn’t count towards licence progression. But people still enter lower-licence races because they are a heap of fun.

I think the incident with the merc is on you - he was ahead of you and had nowhere else to go.
I disagree. He had some track to his left going into the chicane. Knowing it was 3 wide, he should have stayed all the way to the left edge of the track. This was a racing incident at best.

That was a race incident and if you are aggressive that will happen. Sometimes you have to be aggressive or you won't ever win. Nice cars finish last.

Triples give a much wider FOV, even up to 180 degrees. Triple 27s=81 inches of width altogether.
Being able to see cars on your side and also long turns at places like Circuit of the Americas or the hairpin at Barcelona help immensely with driving and racing.
I had triple 24s, got a 34” UW for convenience and now I’m dying to get triples back again. Mostly because it’s so important to know where cars are alongside of you at all times in iRacing

Since there were only 3 splits at the time, it's just likely that the pool of drivers just allowed this kind of thing to sneak into top split.

Look at last place in the results in the end of Dave's video. Then go into iracing and look at last place in the results for the same race. Same car #, same results, same avg laptime....different name.

@@shaggy-one yeah, I raced this man yesterday and he took me out aswell. I reported him and wrote and honest and respectful message to him. His answer were extremely painful and disgusting insults. Very sad.

I had to do a report this week too. Guy cut me off like crazy after he damaged his car. I caught up 5 seconds in about 4 turns so he decided to just kill me instead of letting me go.

I had a bit of a think about the yellow Merc, and I think it's a racing incident. It's easy for some to say it's your fault there, but the reality of that situation is there's three cars trying to fit into the space of two, and those things often happen. Case in point: in the real-life IMSA race this past weekend at Mid-Ohio, Daniel Morad got cutoff in a similar way to you and ending up spinning one of the prototypes, because as he held his line the other car misjudged and chopped right down. The Merc driver did not take into account the car on the inside there and should have either backed out, or take the overshoot and carry on.
I think the Merc is leaving enough space on the inside but only for one car, I guess given how the 3 cars are aligned he can't see the black Ferrari on the right and expects Dave to get on the inside so I wouldn't blame him either. I'd say race incident indeed but Dave didn't choose the safest option by making it 3 cars wide before the chicane ^^

@@davecamyt ah. That's a shame, I attempted the fixed 500 last weekend, started 27th. Was in 2nd at lap 60. Just sat back and let the race happen. Chasing the leader who just lapped someone, I got the dirty air out of t1, and in the wall, gutted but had fun.
Will have to stay up very late to try catch you in track, cause being in New Zealand the time difference is crazy
He should be kicked out of iRacing. He had no regard for anyone else in that race and intentionally wrecked people. I have been a member for about 5 months and what I pride myself the most is having a high SR for being a safe driver. What that guy did was inexcusable.
It was most likely already his second account. So he will just make a new one after ban.

@@dill6688 Don't know about you - but all isps i've used in last 20 years have dynamic IP. Wait 24hours IP changes. Only way to succesfully ban them for a while would be to use payment information, but in some countries (EU) you cannot legally process payment information for other purposes

@@davecamyt ok thanks for info your play back vids flicker allot and the shadows look very jagged, its not a complaint but more an observation, i know some sim drivers use low settings to get the frames. its not a criticism just noticed it maybe i should lower my quality settings for a cleaner feed back.
