We need to see more sims add these types of cars (low weight, low power) because they can produce some fantastic racing!
Formula Vee is on RF2 (Reiza Pack DLC), AMS 2 (base game) and AC of course. AC really has some fantastic racing if you're up to manually downloading the mods and entering league events (srs, sim racing gp, sim grid, etc).
@@jdss13 I've never enjoyed the driving in AC. Even in VR I've always felt disconnected from the experience/never felt a true sense of speed so always misjudge things in AC compared to other sims.
@@TomoHawKzZ weird, I go back and forth between Sims with no problem. Maybe you should give it another try :D

It’s all about energy management, lose momentum and it takes a while to get back to pace. So far lots of fun, it gives you time to think, plan, set up passes, find and use every bit of the track. For me some of the other classes are just too fast to be fun.
A family member raced formula VW in the 70’s and 80’s so I had the chance to drive quite a lot at Laguna, Willow springs, and the old Riverside raceway in California. IRacing has the powerband of this car spot on! It always had this feeling of not having the right gear selected. They were on skinner tires back then so the slid around a bit. And they felt faster than they are.
Hi Dave, I just recently got into sim racing, I finally dropped a little cash on equipment, nothing near as fancy as yours but the G920 with a GT Lite racing seat, and a 55 inch display is a pretty good start for my pay grade. In the 45 hours I have now spent practicing I have improved most by learning to be patient, learning the tracks. Just turning lap after lap. I just happened to come across one of your videos, and have now spent hours and hours watching you race. After each video I have gotten a little faster, not so much anything you say, but just watching how you handle traffic, watching how you ease in and out of the throttle, and brake, even the POV video you did gained me a second or so. So this is just really to say thanks man. I have no expectations of ever being super human fast, but as long as I can race clean, and continue to learn and have fun, that's all I am really looking for. Keep up the great videos, and thanks again.

One of my new favorite cars (and it's free), having had a drive in the real thing years ago, this feels VERY close to the real thing if you get used to the 3-4 gear shift point. It's not too hard to get a consistent mid 1:11.x time, but it's sooo much fun to throw around.
This car is an absolute blast to race but my god everybody is crazy in it! I don't know if its just because people aren't quite used to how to drive it or if its because it's week 13 but hopefully it gets better soon. Right now the only goal in a race is to stay out of carnage and it'll guarantee you a good finish
I'm brand new to iRacing, and sim racing. I don't think anyone counts GT and Forza MS real sims lol. But what's the deal with "that's week 13 for ya"... why does week 13 make people crazy?! lol

Loved this vid Dave. Brought back great memories. In 1974 I bought a 1969 Viper FV complete with trailer for $1200 CDN. Good luck getting one for that now. The original wheels and tire size were stock VW Beetle and tall and skinny. It was very easy to spin. The class evolved with safety in mind and eventually went to wheels and tires that were used in Formula Ford. Many of racing's great drivers got their start in a Formula Vee. Amazing that the class is still strong after more than 50 years. Thanks!

I noticed this too, and have been reading up. Certain FV race series (eg, UK, Australia, S. Africa) allow those inboard front [edit: and rear] shocks. Some also run liquid-cooled Golf engines, not Beetle flat-fours!
@@raffriff42 it was the rear I saw when Dav was following, they used to have coilovers on rear not push rods like what I saw
Have to agree, Formula Vee feels great. Had a couple races last night, won the first went literally from 20th to 2nd in the first lap! Hilarious!

As a veteran SCCA corner worker who has seen many FV races, this is pretty cool.

Really enjoyed the last two days on these - think there'll be a massive take up of these next week. There's enough in the handling to keep you interested.

I’ve noticed that when people spin off the track they want to get back into the racing as quickly as possible with total disregard to traffic behind them as if spinning off the track shouldn’t cost them any positions. Yes folks there are consequences to your mistakes and actions. I would say you’d have to get the car stopped as quickly as possible And remain still until you know you can move without ruining somebody else’s day. But what a surprise there are tons of drivers on Iracing that could care less about ruining your day right after ruining their own

I always find it funny how much slower the super high iRating guys are with new cars and NO SETUPS. Looks like a fun car though, and well done! Also its funny, these even smoke like a real-life Volkswagen!
I threw this little thing around in a practice session tonight. It was crazy amounts of fun! The best part was after about 45 minutes I was getting really quick. The small size will also make some of the free tracks a load of fun to race on. Do I see a community race in these...?

I saw Formula Vee (amongst many other cool things) at Spa Classic some years ago :)
This is basically Formula Ford but with less power.
They’re amazing, would love to have a run in one.

Wish they'll do an a 'advanced Formula Vee' series at some point! Also Mazda not needing clutch makes it so much better to drive. Suggest giving it a go!

Just tried them for about 10 laps, funny to drive. Optically they somehow remind me of little grasshoppers, from the chaseview.

I've raced a Formula Vee in real life (as per SCCA rules; these appear to be different based on the tires). Now I really want to get into iRacing!
BTW, the only thing that could have made the incident reel more entertaining would have been to have "Yakety Sax" playing in the background. :)
The Vee in iRacing is pathentic without any form of informative FFB. Reiza wins by a ridiculous margin if it is with AMS, AMS2 or rF2.

I feel like the tires in iRacing are a lot better than in AMS. Barely any braking zones and it turns on a dime. In AMS it's a proper challenge to wrestle the car around.
I'm hoping my AMS1 experience in the Vees will pay off here, when I eventually jump into one of these.

Looks like a fun car to drive. BUT, It definitely isn't built on any FVee rules I know of. The front suspension is all wrong and probably the rear. Google FVee and look at the picks. Reiza did a great job on the FVee in AMS and AMS2
No, it's not fun to drive if comparing it with a Reiza Vee, if it's in AMS, AMS2 or rF2. The car is super stable in iRacing without any informative FFB. I thought the AMS2-version is too stable/easy to drive, but compare to iRacing it's a beast.
@@Leynad778 It's supposed to be a stable base on which to learn with low horsepower, and simple suspension.... Tires are a variable between countries. I mean all 4 corners are supposed to be based on trailing arms. Front suspension on a Cross chassis torsion bar system.
@@davidbrock2450 Formula Vee is/was the typical career step after karting, so not for noobs and they are challenging to drive fast. I have a 6 DOF rig with SC2 Pro and it feels just boring to drive. The SCCA is much better, but compare to AMS2 nowadays, iRacing is a total joke in every aspect other than online competition.
I hope the Formula Vee cars will be a D or C class car so I can participate in next season road.

Just had my worst race ever in this car. Some guys in front lost controll and little could be done. I got 2 min for repairs and tow, then entered again and did the remaining laps. Basically in 10 minutes I lost 0.33 points of the class licence. It will now take 90min of hard work to recover the points either racing or time trial with little or no mistakes otherwise I lose more points
Man i racing looks so fun. it just seems like such a expensive game to invest into vs regular drive sims.
Yeah it is. Once you've got a lot of content the monthly subscription is worth it. Just a but of a hut at the beginning.
As a mid level mid/lower rank driver iRAcing has become more an exercise in patience than racing

The Formula Vee drives a lot like a Formula Ford drives in real life, just a bit slower. I am loving this car.
