  • Short video showing how to over come some issues you may find when setting up and using for the first time when trying to use the right ascension slow motion control.
This applies to the Celestron GG-3 and CG-2 mounts that you get with a number of the astromaster series of telescopes.

I'm pretty handy at DIY and managed to figure this out quickly. I can see others having this problem because the instructions actually say to push the Fine adjuster all the way in and then tighten the screw, which is of course wrong. You need to get the screw to tighten in that groove.

Hello. I have the same mount and motor. The motor on my mount when set to 'N', northern hemisphere, turns the RA shaft in the wrong direction so the telescope tracks anticlockwise. So looking from the cover of the motor towards the coupling the coupling turns anticlockwise. To use motor tracking I have to set the motor to 'S', southern hemisphere, in which mode it tracks perfectly. I asked for Celestron's help but they didn't want to know. So I would be very interested to know which direction your motor turns in when set to the 'N' mode. Thanks.

Thanks for the question, and happy Christmas. Sorry do not have a spare one out the box to test. But guess if south works for you, all should be OK. If anyone else reading this finds the same issue, feel free to comment. Thanks for watching our channel.

Hi Peter, I have the same mount and the only way for tracking stars correctly is in "S" mode. I think because this motor is compatible with a lot of other mounts and some of them may have the screw to keep the motor in place on the other side of the mount.

@@guidomorossi7233 Hi. I rewired my motor to make it turn the telescope in the correct direction when set to N for the northern hemisphere. I contacted Celestron about this and they eventually admitted that there was a production run of these motors which were wired wrongly in the factory.

Hello, great video but I only have one question. The right ascension nob (the one connected to the motor drive) is hard to turn. How could I get it so where it turns more easily?

If it connected to the motor, try uncoupling the motor. With the motor drive attached, it will be harder to turn

I have the motor as well on my mount but when I turn the RA knob it turns the piece the motor is attached to. I have my motor set to "N" but see no movement. I don't want to blow the motor up but do I just need to let it go for like 30 minutes or so before I see anything?

Try running the motor without it on the tripod. If it moves, then the issue is not with the motor drive. I am hearing with some buyers, the N - S do work, but can sometimes work in the opposite direction they should

I've taking it off the mount and turned it on. It works and turns off the mount. I put it on the mount though and it's like it just completely stops after the screw gets to where it's touching the side of the notch

Difficult to say without having it in front of me. Unless you are part of an astro society already, look up your nearest one and take the scope so they can check for you.

The eq 130 mount and ones like it are pants, people say your mirror is the heart of the telescope when really its your mount, i got this telescope as an upgrade for my old telescope and other than its newer everything is a downgrade, if you have got a little spare money buy a decent mount with better fine adjustments

As we often advised at the local astronomy club. Get the best mount you can afford, and then think about the telescope.
