@@Saarahomes common man! thats an old story! leyland as of now is a pure indian company just like tata and both of them uses their own lab born engines as well as foreign engines. Tata widely uses the Cummins engine from Usa and leyland uses the engines from Hino. But that is past, all these foreign engines evolved alot over the time and now we can say, both are pure indian products. And last but not the least, Tata also started in association with Benz, later it became an independent company but still keeps on venturing with foreign partners in various components. Even today also, the world class model Harrier from tata is based on JLR platform!
Ashok Leyland is a pure british compani not a jv. THAT was the old story.. Hinduja Group is headquartered in UK

When I travel in MSRTC state transport buses of TATA, Layland and new Eisher. I can say Layland and eisher buses are lot more smoother and faster than Tata.

Leyland suspension is soft ,therefore smooth and comfortable...but body roll is quite high, and low on dynamic
Tata bus chasis are more rigid , comparitively harsh on riding comfort , but far far better on body roll issue and better driving dynamics....
Due to body roll issues Leyland not that much suitable for HILLY REGIONS / TWIST ROADS ......TATA SUITS BETTER FOR HILLY REGIONS .....LEYLAND MUCH BETTER FOR PLAIN AREAS WITH LESS or No bends ...
Engine wise , Tata engines are smooth , responsive, fast ...compared to Leyland engines ...
Msrtc Ashok Leyland mostly use in konkan because of zig zag roads,nd Tata use in ghat where all roads are plains,tata bus needs plain roads for smooth functioning

.I belong to a hilly region of Uttrakhand,and my family had few truck & buses ....
It's personal experience ... Tata engines are responsive , advance , and does not drops 'motion' , which is important thing I'm hills & good manovurability..... Unlike Leyland , which drops on 'Motion' due to its typical engine & it's body roll on corners .....
also exhaust breaking system is available in Tatas , not Leyland ( clogs exhaust ,controllable rpm and helps controlled engine breaking )
YES TATA REQUIRES SMOOTH ROADS ....unlike Leyland ,which gives better ride quality in rough roads...
OUR UTTRAKHAND and also HIMANCHAL ,uses TATA buses in HILLS and mix of Leyland and Tata in plain regions
@@Msrtckiduniya , it's all about balance between suspension softness/stiffness V/s drivability+ road manners.
More you make suspension smooth , ride quality would be good .....but road behaviour of cornering and drivability will be compromised ...AS ON LEYLAND.
harder the suspension , rougher will be ride ....but better road behaviour , drivability , stearing response , cornering, less body roll ...as on TATA case ...
Note : less body roll and drivability is important on twist and hilly regions ...like ours ...
