- US-style “megafarms” run by firms that supply meat to fast food outlets and supermarkets are causing surges in emissions of a potentially deadly gas, i can reveal.
A joint investigation by i and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ) has found that emissions of ammonia are rising from industrial-scale poultry farms run by firms that supply chicken, turkey and eggs to major British supermarkets and fast food chains.
British sustainable farming is being forced into closure and mega farms are replacing them.

Has anyone experienced the amazing drop in food prices Rees-Mogg promised us, all I've experienced so far is the exact opposite. If Brexit was/is such a brilliant decision then why is it that there are currently 10 countries waiting to join the EU.
Indeed. When I heard David Davis "There will be no downside to Brexit, only a considerable upside" my immediate reaction was: Are the Britons the only ones clever enough to figure that one out? And if so, why did it take them 43 years to come to this conclusion?
Because they want the subsidies. Whereas the UK out in around £15bn a year to the EU. Including all the tariffs and VAT that went to the EU and now goes to the UK Treasury. The EU CAP has totally distorted farming in the EU. Blaming the USA is so boring.
@@aleph8888 Why did it take the UK 40+ years to figure that out? Was even Maggy Tatcher too stupid to do such a simple calculation?
Brexit was a scam by Jacob Rees-Moggs.

Or a UKIPer/Reformer/whatever-their-name-is-today!

The current edition of Private Eye reports that the Environmental Land Management Scheme is creating an additional threat: the large-scale eviction of tenant farmers by landlords eager to claim the subsidy payment for themselves. Tim Farron MP claims this is underway in Cumbria and describes it as the "Lakeland clearances". According to PE, there are reports that some of landlords are new City institutional investors.

When the election date is announced, you need to get on TV and name the Brexit liars such as Johnson, Farage, Widdicombe, Rees-Mogg, Gove, Frost, Baker, Francois, Davies, Fox and all those unelected advisers at Tufton Street.
The best thing to say to a Brexiteer is:-

@@davdonoghueAnd there are certainly plenty of those.
Rest assured, UK, the EU will be with wide open arms for your application as soon as you have proportional representation, comply with the Copenhagen criteria and have broad support for the EU within your population and all political parties. No guarantees, of course, as all existing members states need to agree with your application first.
Good luck with that! All member states have to agree, Spain, Greece, and other states have ongoing disputes with the UK. It won't happen anytime soon.
...it's almost as if this was all deliberate (Yes!)
This goes against all British food standards have worked for since the 70s. It is mad and stupid and does harm to the environment and is so much worse for the animals. A disgrace.
Thank you for all your videos. Spot on.
If this anything about planet saving the government would encourage manageable sustainable farming. The Hierarchy Exploiting You wants us to starve! 😱
I know a thing or two about this. This isnt even the half of it. You should see how they treat these animals. Speak to commodity traders at Glencore etc who buy and sell millions of chickens and other live stock. Industry tricks include cutting the beaks off the chickens so they don't peck each other to death as they are squeezed into indoor farms where there is not even space for a given chicken to move. Burning out their eyes as chicks is also another doozy. Honestly, i eat meat but if people knew how industrial scale farming really worked im convinced half the population would be vegetarian.
It’s what we warned would happen.
@@lizwebstersbfeasy, just don't eat meat. Simple!
if the world went full veg, would have to kill off WAAAY more than have the population to be sustainable.
The U.K. is moving towards a total ban on debeaking chickens most free range chickens are not debeaked and organic ones debeaking is banned. The broiler chickens are not debeaked and farmers have strict stocking rates that they must adhere to meet farm assured standards so they can be sold in U.K. supermarkets. No rules have been changed from the U.K. leaving the EU.

@@keithhutchins8966 when Labour wins the next GE, that, no matter what the Labour Government does, all those who were on the losing side, must shut up, because the GE was democratic? Should the opposition parties not even bother turning up to Parliament because to even question the winners is undemocratic?
@@BLUESKY-zt1nv Not quite my view. We need and EFFECTIVE opposition to inspire a wider debate in the country. This is something that has been sadly lacking and the people are disillusioned with politicians of all shades. If as I suspect, you were referring to a vote in 2016, I would remind you that it wasn't a GE. It was a referendum in which the Prime Minister at the time (can't think who that was) said it was a straight majority in this once in a lifetime vote. General elections are different to that and a healthy part of a democratic society and because there has been no effective opposition, but it seems a determined attempt by the government, establishment to overthrow the decision of the majority of the people who decided to vote. Without question, farm size has increased since being members of the eec.
Anything that you are saying contrary to the statement above is provably wrong, as you should well know.
Farmers have bought other farms and have got bigger to stay relevant and in business.
The large farm unit has been forced upon us necessary to produce cheap food. The various bodies on the unnecessary stratas then get the sanctimonious entitlement of criticising the way things are happening, but also having the luxury of cheap food and not being hungry.
The real forgery here is the system and the people implementing it.
100% engineered.
Complain on an empty stomach. Thoughts I think you will find are quite different as a reality check is very sobering.
This "mega" style of farming fowl in the UK is nothing new.

Brexit will destroy pubs
Play Station, Xbox, Gyms and a smoke ban did more damage.
Let's hope the UK can find a way to rejoin the EU a.s.a.p.
Rejoin is a dangerous fantasy, that will not happen.
The UK, may at some time in the distant future, reapply to join on very, very difficult terms that are not likely to be acceptable to the British electorate. As an Irishman I’d love to have the UK in the EU.
Factory farming might be getting worse but it isn't new. I'm no fan of brexit but that isn't why we're in this mess. In the past sunday roasts became a big thing because that's when the average person would get to eat meat. Nowadays everyone wants to eat meat with at least three meals a day and with meaty snacks in between. The population and our meat consumption has significantly increased to a point where we don't have enough land to meet demand in the old ways. If we want sustainable farming to work people have to reduce the amount of meat they eat.
We need the govt to introduce rationing
@sarahann530 We live in a very selfish society, especially those at the top. Our government only care about money, and the big landowning farmers seem quite happy to send us back to feudalism, so long as it protects their wallets and all that inherited land
I doubt that most people consume meat in the grossly exaggerated manner you suggest, unless...................................you know some very rich people.
@@bobmoshersmonsters On a worldwide scale YOU are at the top. Recognise your good fortune.
@keithhutchins8966 I work in a shop on just above minimum wage, I don't think I know any very rich people.. I'm just saying what I see, most people dont fill their basket from the fresh produce aisle. I should have probably included all animal products in my comment - my mistake. It's not like everyone is buying premium steaks every day, but a lot of people now eat processed prepackaged food for convenience. Most premade sandwiches are meat/dairy based. It's hard to even find a salad bowl without some form of meat/dairy included. Try and shop vegan for a week, then tell me the average person doesn't consume a large amount of animal products
In 2008 the EU's economy was ahead of the USA, now it's 50% behind, so the megafarms certainly haven't done much harm to the USA. It's like the EU is stucjk in the past and syagnating whilst the rest of the world is powering forwards, in 50 years tme refugees will be fleeing Europe for a better life in Asia and Africa.
so the American economy being so strong means that the Americans have a better standard of living than the Europeans. I wonder if hormones in American meat makes Americans more peaceful and cuts down on mass shootings.
I’d love to see your evidence for that.
Have you actually spoken to the farmers who have been put off their land so that Bill Gates could buy it at a vastly knocked down financial rate? Bill and Melinda Gates the well known philanthropists
