At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.
These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.
We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.
You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

That'll clean up the looks of that area and make it fairly impervious to rain. Time well spent, Brock!

Looks like a great base for grass. That rolled up straw is excelsior matting. Works great for minimizing erosion on hills but watch ot if the netting is plastic it will not deteriorate and will get wrapped around mower blades. Snakes will also get stuck in it. Cut 4 or 5 of them out of it (alive and dead) after we built our house.

Can you put drain pipe along the length of the hut and then put a (T) in the middle and run pipe under the new road you are going to build ?

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

We put drain pipe along the backside of the building. I don’t think I’m gonna put any on the front side for now but it would probably actually be a good idea
      Thanks for watching

Brock, our Tractor Supply stores carry compressed straw bales (they were at about $12 a bale) but they are the equivalent of 3 normal bales so the cost really wasn't too bad. The straw should hold everything in place until the seed germinates. One other suggestion is to mix winter wheat seed with the grass seed. It will germinate in a few days and help to hold everything together until the grass seed germinates. It worked really well for me, plus it's pretty cheap. P.S. They keep the compressed bales inside the store on a shelf.

Brock, You're doing a good job mastering the use of your new equipment! That new 325G track loader equipped with the Harley rake is getting it done! Good job! OBTW, grass seed is expensive............ says the guy who just dropped $100K on his new rig!

I thought about that as I said it, but it’s about where you do and do not see value which is fluid and varies by person.
I always think of grass as being free and coming up even when we don’t want it
Other people spend a fortune trying to have perfect sod and installing a sprinkler system.
Not right or wrong, just different

@@RockhillfarmYT I wasn't being critical just found it amusing as I sit here trying to find liquid fertilizer concentrate on sale. And I'm also sitting on $100K+ worth of equipment. It's all relative right?

Yes, and that’s how I took it.
In my mind the skid steer can be ROI positive if I use it properly to more than pay for itself and my time spent on it.
Whether it works out that way or not is a big question but I don’t see as much ROI on consumable materials on jobs I’m not being paid for

You need to put your machine in float and use your bucket curl lever to control the depth, this will give you much more level finish. I have the Bobcat version and I learned this technique from the Dirt Ninja on You Tube.

No need to hand rake unless you enjoy it, just drag the spike harrow.

Yeah, I’ve just been leaving the Backhoe on the last few days because I know I’m going to use it again.
Takes about 10 minutes to switch from the backhoe to the harrow
