If it wouldn’t be for the fact that I can still get a small square baler for 10% the cost of this round baler, I’d probably go for something like that. Looks like you’re getting great compaction. Plus to know I can run it with my compacts without additional hydraulic functions definitely makes this something to consider.

Hi @tallfarmboy1975. I’m curious to know if you can share the model of a mini square baler. I have a subcompact Kubota BX2200, and the only mini square baler I could find was by an Italian company for over $20,000. I would prefer to get square bales, but assumed I would need a round baler because of cost.

Square bales stack easier. Round bales (the big ones) are slowly becoming obsolete. Big squares are easier to stack ship and handle. If it weren't for the cost difference of the machines, big squares would already have gone the way of the small square.

Nice work on the review! Really like that little baler for what its costs! Not sure why everyone keeps saying "for the cost of that thing i would just buy a used square baler" On the website linked it clearly only costs 8k US NEW and even less if you buy more implements together. Ive not seen any new square baler near that price and ESPECIALLY that can be run by a subcompact.

Hey Bud, why not just crank the 3pt all the way up, and then crank the dial that's between your calves when you're in the operator's station tight? That will keep the 3pt up no matter what you do, and prevent you from inadvertently lowering it onto the PTO shaft? I'd be willing to bet that Summit tractors (like all other brand tractors) has that knob. It's meant to adjust or stop the hydraulic flow to your 3pt. so that you can adjust the drop-speed when you have heavy implements on the rear, so they don't hit the ground too hard.

Working on old square balers SUCKS. It's like working on clockwork. And generally if they are for sale they have been well-used and have their own quirks or problems. Parts are often not made anymore and hard to come by. Even new off the line some of them fail to tie every 8th or 15th or 30th bale or whatever. Just like clockwork.
It's much harder for a round baler to miss.
These things look like they're about half the price of a new square baler and 1/100th the headache of an old one.
And it's small enough to be pulled by a subcompact tractor where as with square balers even the smaller ones are too big for one of these little machines. One of the smallest square balers I've ever seen my grandpa owned. He was the second owner and it was like 2 years old when he got it a half century ago. That sucker the smallest tractor to pull it would be around 25-30horse and even then one of these hydrostatic tractors could only pull on flat ground. They are heavier, wider, and take more power from the PTO to operate. Ideally even the smallest square balers need around 35hp and 3000lb tractor weight to pull it safely and effectively.

You can set the pulley to use less twine. We go over the baler in this video: th-cam.com/video/CrepSU33Lwo/w-d-xo.html

Nothing new about it, seventy year failed idea! Try stacking it on a wagon and in a barn, ether way you can only get about half as much in a given area. Allis Chalmers went broke in there haying idea.

Free your mind! Thousands of these balers are sold every year. Much cheaper than square balers. I'd have to fire someone if they lost 50% of storage space because the bales are round!! More stacking here: th-cam.com/video/b1pjlcrsIb4/w-d-xo.html

Leaving 1/3 of the hay behind, not very efficiant.

Being self-sufficient and making your own hay is no joking matter.
