Neil tackles the next task on his honey do list. After prepping a new lawn in late June, he was left with a few less than ideal conditions in his lawn. In order to smooth things out, and remove some rocks, he chose to use a Harley Rake. Neil discusses the different ways it can be setup, and how it works in varying conditions.

Seven years running a 7' harley rake have taught me going forward is preferable to going in reverse. The ability to control the depth and overall level is better. The rocks and other debris are pushed away, saving broken windshields. Using a perpendicular pattern also smooths the variations in areas being leveled. Nice rig. I avoid lawn work like painting, but it's nice to know there's a cool tool for it if needed. Actually I've been filling some low spots, but it's a rural place and not manicured, so spreading soil with FEL and letting the winter even it out. In the spring I'll overseed if the existing meadowgrass hasn't filled it in before I get to it. Sure wish you guys were nearby, I'd consider renting that attachment.

Personal preference I always run Harley forward when going in reverse. I can’t stand flipping it backwards. Don’t get very good depth in my opinion

What is a ballpark price on one for a three point hitch? Probably 72” with remotes for angling.

Can you post a link to that initial prep/seeding video? All i remember is that I liked the flavor of Scott's grass seed but I don't remember what it was, thanks.

I need to redo at least an acre of grass that is covered by a dozen trees. Really rough ground, can launch off my tractor if I go too fast. Would need something like this for my 3PH. I don't want to till it, too many roots to contend with, so would something like this, or similar work? Either B2410 or L4060 (if the loader ever shows up).

I would recommend adding top soil on top of existing grass. Use the harley rake to fill the low spots, avoiding disturbing the existing sod. My harley rake will grind sod into soil and root matter, but it us a slow process. It's faster and cheaper to add soil and level. That is if you value your time and the cost of fuel. @@bendermanufacturing I would but there is also a lot of undesireables in some areas that will be getting a strong dose of 2,4D. Going to take a lot of work, especially in the back where the new septic is going in. Some areas will need a new top layer of soil, especially around the trees, some areas need a rip out and renew. Some just need smoothing.

@@acdii Adding topsoil to tree roots is a waste of money. They'll be back in 2-3 years, especially if it's a shallow rooted tree like elm or maple.
