This is the song by which all Olympic theme songs should be judged on. Not only did I watch it live in 1988 (at about 5.00am BST) but when it was shown in an episode of Pingu some three years later I was able to recite every single word, without mistake, having only heard the song before once.

조르지오 아르마니가 디자인 해줬습니다. 디자인의 배경이 특이한데
디자이너의 감각이 얼마나 뛰어난지 알 수 있습니다.
원래 코리아나는 화려한 색감의 의상을 입으려고 했었는데. 조르지오 아르마니는 화려한 색상을 하면 안된다고 반박했다 합니다.
수많은 사람과 색상이 주변에 펼쳐질것인데
그 안에 똑같이 있어서는 안된다.
오히려 화려한 색상안에서 블랙과 화이트로 간결하게 나가야만 더욱 주목 받을 수 있다고
코리아나에게 설득 했다고 합니다.

이곡을 만드신 분은 이탈리아인인 조로조 모로더. 제가 이탈리아에서 살아서가 아니라 저분 정말 전설적인 주옥같은 음악 많이 만드심. 나이가.드셔도 감각은 항상 새로우신 분. 이분이 이곡을 만들기 전에 최대한 한국감성에 맞출려고 한국노래를 몇백곡을 들으셨다고 함. 참고로 또하나. 저때 저 코리아나 가족밴드팀이 입으셨던 의상은 이탈리아 디자이너 Giorgio Armani. 지금봐도 정말 스타일 딱입니다.

올림픽 세레머니는 예술가가 하는게 보통인데 1988 서울은 특이하게도 인문학자에게 총감독관을 맡겼어요. 그래서 여러 철학이 녹아있는 걸작입니다. 이때도 중국, 일본이 ㅈ ㄹ ㅈ ㄹ 해서 감독관 이어령 선생님이 한국 전통문화라도 중 일이랑 약간이라도 비슷하면 다 빼버렸어요 그럼 뭐가 남겠어요? 프랑스 문화에서 이탈리아랑 비슷한거 다 빼면 뭐가 남겠음 아무것도 안남지
이웃이 탐 안내는 가난하고 허름한 민속 문화는 그래도 남죠 그 민속문화를 테마로 잡고 걸작을 만들어냈어요 그래서 1988서울은 한국 문화의 정수 그 자체임
다른 나라는 올림픽에서 가장 화려하고 멋지고 아름다운 걸 보여주는데 서울 올림픽은 가난하고 아프고 힘든 삶을 살았던 서민들의 문화를 있는 그대로 보여줍니다.

동영상이 인터넷으로 나오기 전에 유럽에서는 한국 88올림픽 개회식 비디오가 웃돈주고 고가에 팔리기도 했데요... 정작 우리는 잊어버렸는데 외국인들이 하나하나 기억하며 설명해줘서 뻘쭘했어요 ㅋㅋ 총감독이었던 이어령님 정말 대단해요. 오자마자 첫마디가 "용(dragon)쓰지마라, '쟤네들 중국 속국이었네' 소리듣는다." 하시고 호랑이로 바꿨다는 말에 정말 감동이었어요. 가장 한국적인 것이 가장 세계적이다 라는 말이 그때쯤 부터 나왔죠

The lyrics of this song do not focus on how great our country/our city is, but convey the key message to the entire world that we should stay united and live harmoniously as one mankind. This is indeed the most perfectly suitable message for any Olympic games.

@@m.a.t.s7165 1980 Summer Olympics was a half, as well as the LA 84 Olympics with partial countries participated. The Seoul 88 Olympics was participated by almost all countries sans North Korea. After this, USSR and East Germany collapsed and became what it is known today. I remember the sports events were more exciting in those years with the US/Capitalists vs. USSR/Communists competing against each others. Despite some were later to be doped up, it was still exciting and so much fun!

2021년에 다시 들으니
뭉클하네. 당시엔 신나는 잔치 기분 뿐이었는데 여러모로 의미있고 올림픽 정신이 살아있는 진짜 올림픽이었어.
지금은 세계인의 화합 따위 안중에도 없고. 그냥 이기적인 상업적 돈벌이 그 이상도 이하도 아닌. 아쉽고. 그립다.
글쎄 나는 코로나로 우울한데 한대 모여서 운동하는 걸 보니 절절하게 감동받는 중인데

괜히 뿌듯해지는 영상입니다. 1910년 일본에게 나라를 잃어버리고, 1945년 해방이 되었지만, 1950년 대한민국은 전쟁으로 초토화가 되어, 아무것도 없는 이 땅에 불과 38년만에 일궈낸 올림픽! 바로 1988년 서울 올림픽 입니다. 1997년 IMF금융위기를 겪고 , 이 힘든 나라의 사정을 알고 있던 국민은 금을 모아 수출하며 최단기간에 극복해냅니다.그 후 2002년 다시금 이 나라에 축구의 최고무대 2002 월드컵이 열렸습니다. 자랑스런 대한민국에 살고 있는것이 국민 한사람으로써 매우 뿌듯하고 떳떳합니다

I remember this song from 1988 in the TV in Mexico, I always had the harmony in my mind till today 34 years later, I was only 4 and this song catched me forever. I knew it was from the Seoul Olympic games, but tonight, I decided to travel in time and searched for it.

I was born in the early 90s. As a firstborn generation Korean growing up in the States, I always heard this song, but never knew what it was or where it came from. Eventually I stopped hearing it once I got older. After thirty years while watching a short documentary the title of the song was mentioned, and I instantly knew what it was, and I had to listen to it. Once I had a moment to myself I rushed to TH-cam to find it. Listening to this song for the first time as an adult, I'm filled with emotion to the point where I almost teared up. It's one of those moments where a sound or smell brings you back to your childhood. I can almost see myself riding in the backseat of my mother's car driving to the grocery store, hearing this song on the radio. These types of experiences don't happen often. This is such a beautiful song. This is going straight to my itunes library. Love to everyone around the world. Sarangheyo! Hand in hand!
