I had 2 bag of blood transfusion when I had severe anemia my blood level dropped to 3 ...I supposed to have 4 bags of blood transfusion but the doctor had stopped the transfusion after 2 bags because my fever raised to 40 degree...after my blood transfusion ... I'm glad after that transfusion I felt a lot better.... I had my hysterectomy after and now 2 ago I'm doing well thank God 🙏 but I felt like I am forgetful 🙄
I’m glad you are doing well. I just had a myomectomy and before the procedure I had three units of blood transfusion because my bleeding from uterine fibroids have been so bad in the past few months. I wish I didn’t have to have it but I’m glad it helped me.
in 2009 Bristol University studied 10,000 heart operatons: They found that those who had blood transfusions were 3 times more likely to die in the month that followed surgery - and 6 times more likely to die in the year tht followed. I'm sure there are cases where a blood transfusion helps -but they cause alot of complications too.
I received two blood transfusions when I was on life support due to HA septic shock. I never agreed to it or anything else done to me as I was in a medically-induced coma. On my paperwork I saw it indicated to save my life using any and all means at their disposal. My adult daughter wanted me to live. Sometimes, it is not our own decision (however, I also wanted to live so I would have agreed to the transfusions.) I do, however, worry that my blood was 'changed' in some way. I am very different (for the worse) than I was prior to this traumatic event, both physically and emotionally.
the transplanted red blood cells eventually die and dont come back because your body only produces its own red blood cells so im not sure what you mean
Interesting. Where did you get that information? Definitely would like to read about this. That would be different than getting a stem cell transplant though right? So you are saying the transplanted red blood cells die out ? How does that happen? If so also how does it have any positive physical affect on the anemia or blood loss then if they die out? @@ockertoustesizem1234
Thank you so much for your input. And understanding. I received a one unit of blood for hemoglobin at 6 and with all the risks, I said well I'm better off just getting my hemoglobin up myself as opposed to getting one and now faced with another life threatening issue.
The trigger varies by institution, pt history, transplant candidate, etc. It's low where I work now and the decision is multivariable. I've had one doctor tell me "don't sacrifice the next 4 hours for the next 4 months"
It’s been 5 years since I had blood transfusion I have been cold tired sick everyday since my blood transfusion they can’t find what is wrong with me what can I do ?t
My father has been taking on monthly basis 2-3 blood units this year because his HB starts dropping, he becomes fatigue, his blood pressure drops as well, and still the doctors can't figure out the real problem.
i am a third year student in a nursing college so i don’t know a lot of blood transfusions but you said an interesting things about transfusion. you said it’s dangerous but we won’t use it until if we feel that it’s necessary. so the patient who is her or his hemoglobin is 6, do we keep without transfusion?

My sister in law is a doctor. She has her own blood stored away in case of an emergency and will not accept any one else. From what I heard it’s normal for Doctors to do this. They se the possible dangers.
so it is an open secret to doctors that blood transfusion causes changes to personality yet scientific community don't openly acknowledged it? that's science for it.
You are a wise humble and balanced physician. Thank you

the concept of benefit/risk ratio is relatively modern. Haemocomponents nowadays are quite safe anyway, and can be administered almost like medicines.

Is the life threatening issue related to the blood transfusions?
@@creativity400 definitely it is
