    Great, again . . . .
    Jan & Bob have suggested a way of making the cabside numbers stand out, as if cleaned. Using blu-tack, as on the windows will probably give the same effect. I have vague memories that exLMS locos towards the end of steam had the last four digits cleaned, but not the initial "4". Worth a thought!

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I feel you on that one, although the only way to get better at it is to give it a go and practise on some cheap old models. Love the disc on the front. I often use the discs supplied but when run out, make them out of plasticard through a hole punch! I like that Bachmann 9F. I've got a hornby green 9F, not evening star (after a renumber to 92215). You can see her in a couple of my videos. Unfortunately shes failed again - I know the problem, the tender connection plastic loop has snapped and the valve gear has kinda deformed. Oh well I'll get round to fixing her one day, I've mended the valve gear before and the connection shouldn't be too hard to construct out of plastic.

      @@MouldyRaspberry I like the way you run your trains at a scale speed of 40mph or less. This lets us see that lovely motion of Walschaert's gear. Hackworth gear is ingenious and simple but it looks like a 'limping dog'! A lot of model railways are run at insane scale speeds of 150MPH+

    • @MouldyRaspberry

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andrew. I don’t think the paint is thick enough to gum up the motion. If it’s thin enough to pass through an airbrush, I doubt it would affect the loco. As long as you give the wheels/pickups a good clean after. I turn the loco upside down and use a 9v battery to make the wheels spin whilst holding a cotton bud dipped in Isopropyl alcohol. A quick run round the layout will free everything up anyway.

    A much simpler way to do weathering is to use a childs water colour paint set but mixed with liquid soap. When dry it is quite robust but if you dont like it you can simply wash it off with water.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Recently I’ve started using Halford’s Matt Lacquer, which is really good. I don’t wait for them to dry, but as I’m using acrylics they are already pretty much dry by the time I’ve loaded up the airbrush with another colour. I guess so, the heat might have an effect on the paint, but I imagine if you seal if it should be okay.

I do have an airbrush but it is fairly cheap, it did do quite a good job of a pannier repaint though, but the paint usually beads up on the surface, even after cleaning and priming, do you know how to stop this. Also what sort of airbrush do you have?
