You are the Leonardo da Vinci of engine weathering. Superb attention to detail. Congrats on your nomination. Your layout is utterly brilliant.Always a pleasure when you post a video.
Excellent weathering on the loco and the wagons Mr R. Amazing how much just a short touch up can make such a difference. Stay well and healthy. Cheers, Bob
Lewis, another masterclass in adding value and apparent authenticity to a mass produced model. Your skill in weathering is staggering and instructive. When combined with the demonstration running clips, without and then with soundtrack, makes the effort come to life. Well done. Thanks for sharing your effort and enthusiasm. Peter
Lewis, awesome video on how you weathered the loco, as always I picked up some tips and tricks about weathering. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken
Thank you so much for these weathering videos!! 🙌 I'm just starting out weathering my locos and your videos are making it a lot less stressful. Keep them coming please!! More locos and more rolling stock.
¡Hola buenas tardes Lewis! Weathering (Cambridge Dictionary) changes to the colour or form of something over a period of time because of the effects of sun, wind or other conditions. Weathering (Mouldy Raspberry) Effortlessly transforming rolling stock to an era of beauty: esp locos. As said below, a masterclass in precision, fully deserved praise Lewis. I hope, like me, others can take away at least a few ideas to hone their personal weathering skills. Thank you for this week’s video. Stay safe and well. Un saludo. Gary
Hi Lewis. Superb as always. I perchased this loco last year and it is really good and runs superbly . Again another great weathering job expertly carried out. The new smoke box door handle makes a big difference to the appearance of the front of the loco. Again another job well done, and as always another superb video. Cheers Chris.
Thanks Chris, appreciate it. Mine too, it’s really really smooth. Considering it’s a older body, it holds up pretty well I reckon. Especially as you say with the moulded dart loped off and the details fitted.
Superb as always, I'm not an airbrush user but certainly appreciate those that are. Especially when it's one of my favourite engines, as some vicar once wrote "a very useful engine".
Beautiful job! Not too much and all in the right places. I'm always amazed at how big a difference this makes. Oh, and very good choice of music as well - that makes a nice change.
A great video as usual with your modelling skills. Always great to see an artist at work. Ill definably be voting for this as well! To win would be well deserved. All the best, Clint
Fantastic.....I’m a little poorly at the moment so will not be able to make any comments for a while....rest assured I will be looking forward to your vids...my best wishes to you and yours Lewis...stay safe my friend.......Bob
Nice work looks great when cleaning the wheels you proberly should of put the loco in a foam cradle or put something soft under the engine to stop it from getting scratched nice video as always.
That's a very pretty engine Lewis, and another masterpiece of tactful weathering! I really didn't realise that Mickey Mouse had a tank engine sister! Well into autumn now, the wood stove is alight and Findhorn is calling me from upstairs. Many thanks - Teresa
Hi Lewis i did notice last week that you had a new loco { well it looked new } and wonderd if were going to weather it low and behold we didn't have to wait long.nice one Lewis.
Hi Lewis, fantastic & clear video of the weathering, really nice work. I'm just getting into this airbrush thing & your vid's are a definite inspiration. Top draw stuff once again Sir & your wonderful layout has my vote on KMW Layout of the Year. All the best..........Andy

hi lewis, anothere cracking weathering job mate, as you have shown us before you know just how far to go well done mate mune are in the post lol stay safe mate catch you next week A T B SYD
A fair sentiment. I've been tempted to try it myself, but I'd definitely want to be in a physical classroom environment with someone looking over my shoulder the whole time (not so much if I were adding one to a brass kit[?]).
Thanks Chris. It’s a song called Falls by Keith Kennif. A bit repetitive, but It’s on the iMovie audio library so I don’t have to worry about copyright.
Thank you. I’ll do a video on that as soon as I get a new coach! They’re Hornby Gresley/Thompson suburban coaches. Expensive new but they pop up for around £20 second hand which isn’t too bad.
Hi there thanks for sharing. Can you advise what this engine and the Bachmann engines are like for running quality. I have a few older Bachmann locomotives and they sound and run awful. I have a V2 and a Maunsell N that are very noisy. Has this changed? I hope so as they appear well detailed nowadays.
Thanks Graham. This Ivatt and my V2 are two of smoothest running locos I own, they both are the most recent releases where Bachmann put the old body on a new chassis I believe. I wonder if yours are the split chassis versions? On the whole, in my experience all the newer Bachmann stuff runs very well.
@@MouldyRaspberry thanks for the response. My Bachmann is definitely the older generation, my V2 would be 25 years old at least. Thank you for the information I will reconsider the latest Bachmann stuff.
Hi Lewis. great video. I wonder if you can offer any advice... I've just recently purchased the very same Ivatt tank. It come with the hook and three link coupling in the detail pack to go in the bufferbeam. However, the links foul the "model" coupling in the NEM socket. I'd like to fit a hook on the bufferbeam, but without any chain links. I see your Ivatt here already has a hook on the bufferbeam. Did you fit that yourself or was it on the loco when you acquired it? Have you fitted hooks to Bachmann loco's before, and if so what was your approach? Did you purchase some third party hooks or modify the hook and chain in the detail pack?
I got mine second hand Ian, so it may have already been fitted. That said I usually cut the three link chain off and just fit the hook. I use Kadee couplings so sometimes even the hook fowls them a little bit, so in those cases I just glue it on a bit higher.
Thanks, appreciate it. 👍🏻 Mainly because of the cost and to be honest, I don’t really think it sounds that good. This layout is analogue rather than digital, so I’d have to rewire it anyway.
Mouldy Raspberry certainly if you're not DCC there's no point in having sound. I am DCC and have sound in some of my locos of varying quality so I take your point. Like you the main reason most of my stock doesn't have sound is the cost, I recently saw on another TH-cam channel a Hornby Pacific with an expensive sound chip £130 with an upgraded speaker, a smoke unit and firebox flicker which made a lovely model but the total cost was nearly £450, I have bought cars for less than that. Furthermore whilst I think a lot of the diesel sounds are pretty good and that the steam chips have improved immeasurably over the last two years or so there is still an element of chuff, chuff chuff about them. Love your videos especially the ones with themed running.
Nate If you watch some of Lewis’ videos you will find his sound tracks to be far superior to the ones coming from tiny speakers and silicon chips. I used to run a steam power station and can honestly say far too many chipped versions are way to high a pitch and sound false. 🇬🇧
Not bad for a weathering “quickie”. Please don’t take offence, but with a bit more work I think you could raise this model to the next level. I would suggest trying the following: - although you put plenty of paint onto the model, you didn’t take any off. Looking at your prototype photo, you can see the front buffer beam has been partially cleaned. If you gently remove some of the paint using a cotton bud moistened with IPA you will remove some paint but crucially leave some behind on the raised rivets. Try it, it is a nice effect! - motion: due to the lubrication system on steam locos,(oil cups feeding plain bearings) the rods and valve gear inevitably end up with a glossy sheen. Try lfuel stains” or “oil leaks” from Mig Ammo, they are tinted gloss varnish and reproduce the effect nicely. - use a smaller brush with weathering powders! This will enable you to really pick out some of the smaller details, for example the rusty patches on the edges of the smokebox front seen on the proto photo which you have not replicated. You could also add some texture and detail on to the top of the side tanks, this usually happens on surfaces which get stood/walked on. - streaking: your tank sides are a uniform flat spray, but inevitably there would be fine streaking where water ran down the sides then dried. Again, a partial removal with cotton bud to make the vertical streaks followed by a fine misting with airbrush to soften it will reproduce that effect. Just so you know I am not an “armchair weatherer” I have included a link to my flickr photostream, mostly yank stuff but you will get an idea of how some of the techniques work out on a model. www.flickr.com/photos/140003760@N07/

Any thoughts on attempting a smoke unit in one of your models?
I haven’t given it much thought to be honest, but I’d probably get someone someone else to fit it rather than do it myself!

I have one of these but I really wish it could be chipped to go dcc but because mine is spilt chassis it can’t be done easily
Ah, this one is the old body on a newer chassis.
Where do you get your sound effects?
Also! Amazing video! You should do a layout/layouts tour so we can see how big they really are!
Thanks 👍🏻 Some of them are things I’ve recorded when at heritage railways, or it’s the audio from other peoples videos that they’ve let me use.
Respect, das Ergebnis ist wunderschön! 💯👍
Thanks 😀😀
I'd love to see how you weathered the coaches too! Are those Comet kits or RTR? The ones the Ivatt is pulling at about 5:30?
