How can New York Red Bull despise New York City FC for buying their way into the league? Are they oblivious to the existence of other Red Bull sides?

    • @LukasNotLucasYT
      @LukasNotLucasYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +50

evan NYRB was originally the NewYork/NewJersey Metrostars. The ownership change happened in 2006. The club still actively admires our past and so do our fans. My issue with NYCFC is that their fans are a bunch of douchebags. In our US Open Cup match against them in June they literally broke a whole row of seats in our arena. They claim to be a real club when they don’t have a real stadium and a consistent fan base. Their attempts to find a new stadium have been pathetic. They share stadiums with the New York Yankees (baseball team). This season the Yankees performed surprisingly well and made it to the playoffs. One of their games coincided with NYCFC so they had to play somewhere else. The “experienced and qualified professionals” at NYCFC decided to move their game to over 2 hours away in a different state. They are one of the biggest laughing stocks in the league, and only exist because of sheikh mansour.

I cant even watch Indy Eleven games and theyre the biggest club in my state. The people in charge here dont want to create a culture around the game, they just want profits. England created this football thug culture but the authorities called us “The English Disease” whenever it kicked off. All over the BBC and radio if a fan even runs into the pitch now. They’ve ruined it in England’s Premier League. You have to go to the Championship and lower leagues for the non plastics now. Carlo Clemente is that why Italy were banned from European competition in the 80’s then! Italy have never even been in the Premier League of football trouble. Italy have absolutely no name or reputation. In fact...as most English thugs will tell you...Italy are known as melts. 20,000 British soldiers took OVER 1 MILLION Italian soldiers in North Africa during the war. The joke about the shortest book in history being “Italian war heroes” or what colour is the Italian national flag? White! For surrender. And do you know what many Italian (Roma for one if I recall?) fans used to do? On their mopeds they’d drive up behind the opposition fans with Stanley knives and cut behind the knee. Why? Maybe so they can’t be chased? Those are all facts. Give me one back. By the way mate...Ultras are embarrassing. Face painting, drum banging flag waving nonsense. Which suggests to real hooligans that Italy just don’t get it. And they never did.

One of the advantages of not having relegation is every team has a chance to win. The MLS has different champions because they have financial rules to prevent a team from buying the best players available. To MLS fans, it’s worth it rather than seeing the euro leagues have the same damn team win all the time.

I don't hate the MLS but I'm sure sick of hearing about it. I'm from Australia and the A-League has its moments but I don't expect the larger football community to be that interested. It's like the US Copa90 fans can't let it go that the rest of the world just isn't that interested, which isn't that unusual for a non-European, non-champions league competition. The reality is the most interesting leagues are where the higher stakes are, where the biggest prizes can be won which is most definitely European football. Like I said I don't hate it, I'm just not that interested and I don't particularly appreciate lots of MLS content being thrown in my face.

Jared Raymer You are totally right and anyway that is not the North american way, in Europe people only breath soccer (or football if you want) and a bit about Rugby, so they will still support the team if it's relegated. In north america people do not care about only 1 sport, depending on the areas we care about 4 major sports more than soccer, Football (american), Basket ball, Hockey and Baseball. Relegations would never work because as soon as a team would get relegated a lot of people would stop to care about it and go back watching the other 4 sports.

I do not understand how most European football fans can express so much hatred for American soccer
Do you honestly think that if the only football leagues were in Europe, you could call the beautiful game a GLOBAL sport? People go around saying that Football is the greatest sport on earth, and yet you bash on North Americans for wanting to enjoy the sport as much as you do, where is the logic is that? Its like telling someone about something that you find amazing, peeking their interest, convincing them of said thing value but then every time that person tries to enjoy the same thing you deem so enjoyable , you get in their way and reprimend them for it.
Im not saying that the MLS is anywhere close to the quality of the EPL but that shouldnt negate the fact that North America is a mixing pot of cultures, cultures from parts of the world that enjoy/love football, it is their right to express the same amount of love for the sport that everyone else has, that being in the form of an organised league. Im Canadian #HalaMadrid

One of the challenges shared by MLS and the A-league in Australia is geographic vastness of both countries meaning away fans are in small numbers. Both Australia and the US also have other sports that are traditionally far bigger e.g. the AFL and NRL in Australia/MLB, NBA and NFL in US. But credit to the fans in this video, they clearly have a deep connection with their club.

Chicago was beating Man U’s starting 11 until we brought in the rookies to give them the experience. 3. Chicago, Toronto, NYCFC, and Cascadia would survive in the BPL. Not saying they’d win it, but they’d avoid relegation. Besides, if Leicester can pull a league win out if their ass after avoiding relegation, what’s that say about the quality of your league?

American football is as yet young, underdeveloped, slightly confused, and sadly it came into the world at a suboptimal time (with the rise of the super rich owners) but I'm enjoying watching it grow and develop. I think American soccer fans (yes, I'm using both. Get triggered) need to let it grow organically, and let the sport come first and the atmosphere around it follow that. And for the love of all that is holy, stop putting so much emphasis on the foreign players and focus on American talent. That's the REAL way to ascend both as a league and as a Football/Soccer nation

    • @bradmichalson1900

Why don't you guys talk about the Belgium League fans or even Japan ultras, it is getting boring because it is always showing the same kind of video which is showing people football culture and the US, We get it, it is growing but this channel is overlooking at the MLS.

The MLS will never truely be great unless they care about everyone there are clubs like my club D.C. united who were one of the original ones in 96 and have been very successful in the past and have been shoved aside and forgotten by the league to cater to the New York teams, the LA Galaxy and the soon to be LAFC and other teams who can afford these big soccer specific stadiums and better DPs.

  • @joestuffff

To see the MLS grow gives me so much joy, not to mention, pride! I mean we're talking about a league that has been around since the early 90's but really had to earn the right to get where it has today. There aren't a lot of countries that have other sports dominate the media like the U.S., and yet we have a pride as Americans and Canadians to see our level of play grow and our supporters passionately support something that means more to them than just another sporting event. We all love this game, who cares about who has the best league, it should always be about progress no matter what continent you're on.

This isn't the first time he's made goalpost for this either. For him it's more about making the sport big to make more money than progress. He used to work for the NFL, he's used to working with the best.

That American golden boy in Germany as well jezze America your not relevant in football. Your players are lazy and lack the hunger to learn and play in Europe. Which is the best way to go for your players. Learn how its done in Europe and go back to the mls and take that experience and develop players.

Why do they do all these videos on the mls but none on the Scottish league? Some of the rivalries in Scotland apart from the old firm (Edinburgh derby comes to mind) are so intense but get no recognition from football channels like these who just want to gain commercial opportunities from doing videos on new leagues. MLS still doesnt really get how football is done, from the fans upward and until they do I don’t think they should get as much attention as they do, but that’s just my view. Honestly, I wouldn’t really mind if you keep doing these videos but just something to bear in mind the Scottish league and other leagues that sometimes go right over peoples heads because they just write them off due to the lack of “superstar” players deserve a bit more attention than they get just in general and from channels like these. And P.S. anyone who says the Scottish league is a pub league can piss off.

I really hope the plans for MLS Miami expansion take place. Probably one of the largest Latin American populations in the United States and we could have a chance to channel that intense passion we have for our clubs back home. No doubt a Miami-Orlando rivalry would match any of these. Who needs a second LA club when one of the largest potential markets for a club is still untapped.

This video is sponsored by the league itself and Adidas. That is part of the problem. We Europeans mock clubs for selling themselves to corporations, its just not football. But when Bayern Munich do it, they can back that up with a rich history and continental success. I absolutely love that the sport is (seemingly) growing stateside, but its just not your culture. Hearing some of these fans is like listening to a white Irishman doing hardcore rap.

Just now the professional game is getting more popular. But I can understand from a Europeans perspective on how it can get cringe, the chanting is cringe, sometimes the way many teams try to copy Europe is very cringe. But it’s interesting how MLS is combining the game and American sport culture. I think people should be happy professional soccer is getting very popular here not annoyed or whatever. Soccer isn't popular enough in the United States to allow for a financially viable pro/rel system. They are largely semi pro and no team could financially survive going down a division, it would force them into insolvency.

Bringing it back to Vancouver, Portland, and Seattle Cascadia Cup battles, It's just so much history with those 3 clubs and North American Soccer/Football in general. The supporters brought that cup which is still crazy to this day. • @christianperry9187
      @christianperry9187 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

I appreciate learning an actual reason behind the hate. I'm an American (in portland oregon) who lived in England for a couple of years when I was a kid. So it always hurts me when I see so much hate hurled at the MLS from the British and other Europeans. I remember growing up and constantly hearing "why don't Americans care about football?" Well now we do and we get so much hate for it.
While I can understand why you would hate this let me briefly explain the other side. We hate it too. Most of us love soccer because of the lack of commercialization. You don't get the 5 minute long commercial breaks after every stop in play like you do with American sports. When NYFC joined the league, the team, fans, and players were constantly ridiculed by mls fans. This was the league's attempt to fabricate a new York rivalry for fans and try and lure Manchester city fans over here. (Just like they did with chivas) but there's a reason for this.
In order to grow the league this has to be done. They're trying to draw the eye of the casual observers so that they too can fall in love with the league. Nycfc was the most hated team in the league coming in but they've actually earned back a lot of respect. the team and fans have showed that the origins of the team don't matter, it's the heart of the team and fans that matter. Also David villa is incredible and an all around cool guy.
So my point is that we hate the commercialazation too. You can hate the league all you want, they're just doing what they have to do to survive. But if you look at the teams individually, the players and the fans, you'll see heart and passion. You'll see a love for the beautiful game.

Put all MLS games on broadcast TV to gain more support for the league and get young people into the sport which many can't see because many can't afford cable/internet to see games behind a paywall. Kids emulate what they see more often like Basketball,Baseball,Football,Track & Field. Leave pro/rel to other countries and leagues that have decades of history, support for the sport as a whole and deeper talent. Not that the US doesn't have talent,we do just not enough from all economic backgrounds like other countries do.

The main issue I have with the MLS is that they've followed the mould of all other American sports in terms of league structure and team ownership. For example, NO relegation/promotion from 2nd tier and the clubs are Franchises, so essentially it's a league full of MK Dons, I could go and apply for an MLS license, buy a club then relocate it thousands of miles away with a new name. I could also just buy a club and apply straight for an MLS license with a team that's never played a single game of Football !......and a trophy for a Derby game??? Come on, really. Oh yeah, and the way it goes to a playoff and essentially a cup competition so the team that finishes 4th in their separate league can be crowned champs if they win the playoffs !!!

Instead of pulling the sympathy card, showing a inferiority complex and talking about how you don't care what anyone thinks of the league nor American soccer DESPITE SHOWING OTHERWISE, why don't the league just prove it. Until MLS rivalries develop more and grow history, it's not going to be a big deal. I'm not talking about history as in using a recycled one from a previous first division league like Seattle versus Portland. I'm talking about a consistent rivalry that stretches out through decades nonstop. Right now, all of the MLS rivalries are over hyped and lack real hatred in it. Furthermore, the league's marketing of it makes it look gimmicky. Rivalry week? Really? MLS is not even trying to hide their marketing strategy, but it's still hidden good enough for their passionate fans to be blind towards it. Rivalries are one of the things that draw lots of interest in many sporting events. MLS sees that and is trying to mimic it for marketing reasons. MLS clubs don't have rivalries because of the passion nor hatred each team have for one another, but for the profit values of it through ratings and ticket sales. Fans get invested into what they feel is a rivalry and what they really get is a normal soccer match with a few weak hits here and there. The fans are the ones that put in most of the work to make it look like a rivalry in the end and even that's weak. I see fans wanting a rivalry for the sake of having a rivalry.

It really surprises me how the one lassie says that in Europe we are born into a football team, we do not choose. Hahahaha what, I would rather be born into one of the worst teams in my nation than decide one day I'm going to support the new team on the block. Americans are starting to make noise in New York with this derby when I haven't seen one article or video of the fan violence/tension as seen all over Europe. They are also arguing over who is the most original fans, how can you take an argument seriously from a guy that supports a team formed in 2013 and a guy that supports a club that has been bank rolled by a major company. Save the trouble and stick to American football.

Opinions like this one are a joke.
Basically, in a nutshell, I see from reading all this that it makes you insecure to see Americans enjoying Association football, because you love it and you think it sets you apart from Americans. That if we start loving the sport, it won’t be unique for you anymore...
Piss off. It’s the world’s game.
You Europeans make fun of us for not being into soccer, then make fun of us for being into it. We can’t win...
Also, if you’re going to claim that Man City and Liverpool and Man United aren’t corporate-owned and don’t care about money, you’re full of it.

All of the above are true ground rootes rivalries and are all filled with explosive passion which makes them all better than these plastic MLS derbys. Thats just one country....

The Lord what do you expect, MlLS is just coming alive. Rivalries take time and supporters will eventually find their voice. I would think that's commonsense but guess not for everyone...

    English fan here:
Both the NY clubs in this are so fucking corporate and manufactured. Cosmos deserve to be in that league far more than either of them plastic clubs do.
The Cascadia rivalries look good though, quality fan culture and looks a lot of fun.
The Toronto-Montreal rivalry shoulda been mentioned, one of the few real deep-rooted rivalries in the MLS that transcends football.
Also, if Americans want to know why we struggle to respect your league, I went to an MLS game last year, and not just any, it was a play-off between Montreal and NYRB, hardly some meaningless game, and the attendance was dire (like 20% of the stadium at most). Until this is sorted out (which in all fairness it does seem to be changing), Europeans are really gonna struggle to look at your league as anything other than a corporate, manufactured and plastic league.
Also the absolute nerve to compare seeing the birth of NYCFC - a club manufactured by a large corporate entity and immediately put into the top league because money - to the birth of a club like Liverpool - a club made by local working class people in their own neighbourhood to represent their community - is beyond a joke.

MLS is a pay-to-play league. If you want a club, it's a $100M+ entry fee. As romantic as it is to have a club start from the ground up like in Europe, it's not the American dream. Get rich quick!

I wont be sorry for the insults and i will never follow this mediocre league. For the time lets point the finger and laugh at it. Your rivalries are so special at the sametime have no silverware to show for.
