NCL Jewel Cruise: Visiting The Goonies Filming Locations & AMAZING Views from the Astoria Column!

- We are loving this itinerary!! Today we are in Astoria, Oregon… and it’s our first visit to this state! There are so many sites that we want to see here and we found the best way to get to them all was with a tour. We booked with Onward Adventures and they can customize a tour based on what you want to see. We are kids of the 80’s so seeing the Goonies filming locations was high on our list! Katie & Bill were great to work with!!
So… what all did we see? The Goonies house aka Mikey’s house, The Goonies Jail which is now a pretty cool film museum, we threw wooden airplanes off the Astoria Column, we grabbed a coffee and snack from Coffee Girl on Pier 39 as well as touring the free Bumble Bee fish canning museum there… oh and there were a ton of sea lions here too! Next up is a quick trip to the Maritime Museum and lastly some fresh salmon and clam chowder at Josephson’s Smoked Fish. What an incredible day!!
Once back on Norwegian Jewel, we have a delicious Italian dinner at La Cucina! Next stop… Seattle!

Itty bitty correction. It’s the Columbia River, not Columbus. There are several really neat state rv parks in Oregon. It’s our favorite State to camp in. But you do have to make reservations months in advance.
Yep, they fill up fast. Washington State also has many beautiful state parks to camp at including the Islands from Tacoma to Canada. In WA you can also rent lighthouses, park cabins and yurts. Lots of camping options. I loved this video. I lived in Astoria for a couple years when I was a teenager (several decades ago) so this was nostalgic for me.
I am glad that you got to visit Astoria and the Goonies shooting locations. I was at the Clatsop County courthouse for a meeting on the day that they shot the jail break scene. They had the area cordoned off for filming but the main courthouse was still open. After my meeting, I asked a photographer with a strange looking camera what was being filmed and he said it was a movie called The Goonies. He was taking still stereographic photos for Viewmaster slides of the movie. I kept talking to him and the guards let me stay within the filming area as they must have assumed that I was helping him. It was fun watching then set up the scene and then film the getaway. The actor playing Jake Fratelli had a hard time getting into the car through the sunroof and they had to film it over and over again until he finally was able to get into the car. This is one of my favorite memories of Astoria. Thank you for your video!

My son lives 1 1/2 hrs from Astoria . We were fortunate to spend 3 days in Astoria. Loved our time there and can’t wait to come back. Love the Goonies house.

I did a simliar cruise on Princess. This is my favorite itinerary of all the cruises my family and I have ever been on.

I miss the clam chowder. The best I’ve had was at Splash in Pismo Beach, CA. Served in a big bread bowl with lots of crab and shrimp on top and oh so rich and creamy…… YUMMMMMMMM
I LITERALLY made my 8 year old daughter watch The Goonies for the first time last week! HEY YOU GUYYYYYS!!! I am sooooo jealous!!! I was her age when it came out. best movie eveer

Yes they are very good at reviewing food videos. I have watched their videos hundreds of times about food. Some people put up videos and they're just not that good. And some people put up videos that just keep you tuned into them because the videos are that good. I'll follow some people and they show you the food or eating but it's like they're not really telling you much about it. It's just boring

Excellent video!! It was so amazing when we got to the top of the Astoria column and the first thing we see is you two that was honestly the highlight of our day and trip to Astoria! So glad you enjoyed one of our great little towns in the PNW!! You were both so kind to meet we will have our video of Astoria out next week and we mention how exciting it was to see u both! Ron commented how nice looking you both are you are a wonderful couple on video but even better in person! Looks like we stopped at all the same places thank you for showing off this wonderful town! When we went to Astoria Oregon we booked the tour to Mount St. Helen. We did see the goonie house as we drove by.

Just when I was wondering how exhausting that stairwell was, the clip of Alisa showed up. Oof! 🤣 I live in Seattle and I’ve been dying to drive down to Astoria. I think I need to make that happen. I was debating going to La Cucina. I think I’m gonna have to make that one of my 3 on the Bliss in June 2024. Looked so good. Thanks for another great video that lets me vicariously live out my wanderlust. 😊

And lastly, because I don't think I come across many people who use that phrase "Good stuff Maynard" I'll tell you something silly. You know that band Tool? Fronted by Maynard James Keenan? Well in a weird twist of fate I once almost said that phrase right in front of him and when I realized what I was saying I stopped short. He let out a heavy sigh and said, "Just go ahead." And I said, "Nope, I refuse to." That's a really truncated version of that story.

@@EECCTravels Yup. LOL. A little further down the river that flows through downtown Portland is the Willamette (will-am-it) river. People butcher that. I heard someone call it the Wilma Tay River.
I booked a trip on the NCL Joy for next fall. I have since seen a lot of bad reviews for the Joy... Would you recommend keeping that reservation or changing it up?
We have been on the Joy (a few years ago) and we really enjoyed it. I love NCL and haven’t had a bad cruise experience with them.
When's your next trip? Any national parks or anything?
We are actually leaving next week for Alaska! Denali NP and Glacier Bay NP!!
