- It’s estimated more than 100,000 children were stolen and sold at birth in Georgia between the 1950s and 2005 at the hands of a corrupt medical system where doctors profiteered.
In 2014, Georgian Journalist Tamuna Museridze found out she was adopted at birth after discovering two differing birth certificates when clearing out her mother’s home after she died.
She then set up a Facebook group to help people find for their biological children, siblings and parents. So far, the group has reunited 700 families. While the Georgian government launched an investigation in 2022, no-one has been held accountable and families and children are continuing to seek answers.
The ABC visited Georgia to speak with adopted children searching for their biological parents and mothers who were told their babies had died after birth
