It's not the *time* he spent under and not even so much the energy, but descending that distance over that time frame is really the amazing part. For him to seem to "coast" down like that requires him to do so with very little oxygen *in* him.

Large eels, like the Moray, don't attack divers and are usually very friendly. It is possible to piss one off and provoke a threat response and it's not wise to stick your hand out at them as they might perceive it as a fish and bite. I've swum with them many times.

yes, it would be really interesting to see what an olympic swimmer could do freediving. We had an olympian butterfly swimmer, but he had trouble equalising.

I managed to hold my breath in a pool for 3 minutes, playing dead, without moving a muscle. I can't immagine how much training this guys has, making so much effort, swiming back up.

Surely u don't just jump in there head first without knowing the layout of the tunnels and landscape. And surely he made a few mistakes before perfecting his performance. There's coral around that canyon, but the canyon itself is rock - mainly because it's a popular scuba location, so the coral has been scraped away by tanks. The reef around is in good condition, though. Stig did the dive numerous times, we divided it into 3 segments, shallow, medium and deep, so he could adjust how deeply he'd breath in. He only scraped himself once on the shoulder during the 10 days we filmed. No budget, we filmed after his training in Blue Hole, 500 meters south of this spot. We were both there for a freediving competition, this was our side project. I like working on no budget, take the risk to see if the movie will sell. Stig and i have done several films this way. No breathing apparatus either, we're both professional freedivers, and are well aware of how dangerous it would be to inhale compressed air at this depth. You'd never be able to swim up from 32 meters on compressed air without a decompression stop.

So vastly different, being a huge, shallow shelf that goes for miles before you hit depths even half of what he hit right off the shore! Each is awesome in it's own way. Nature is the best... Especially the oceans... Like space exploration with tastier creatures (although I never have eaten an alien... Unless you count Cuttlefish/Octopus) 😁🍻 Great video brother!
Besides how incredible Stig is normally with his fitness, control, and ability not to go into shit panic mode when he needs to breath, is when he surfaces and doesn't start gulping lungs full of air like a normal person.

Notice that nose-clip? He makes a breathing-out action without releasing air. That equalises the pressure on the inner ear. He will need to do it several times on the way down. As for pressure on the body: We are mostly water ourselves and our internal organs are nearly always saturated. There is not much to get compressed. That's not to say it does not require practice. Lots of practice and then some more. That guy is fit.
@@DaanVerhoeven But surely he blew it all out as it looked like he was sinking? When you have air in your lungs you would have to keep kicking and pulling to get down, as he did most of that on the way up it suggests his lungs were empty.

For a non-experienced freediver - till the first urge of breath.
Assuming you’d know how to equilize your ears, you’d easily do 8-10 meters dive :)

If you do the Wim Hof Method, you can manage to hold your breath for 3 minutes. Really is awesome, you should check it out.
