      If you consume betel and betel nut in excess, they definitely affects your brain the same way a can of Redbull drink does. No wonder people like it. WHO classifies betel nut as a carcinogen.

    With a cold shiver that music took me back a little over 40 years ago to the Moroccan Gnawa music I was introduced to there.
    Very similar instrumentation and hypnotically rhythmic as the ancestral spirits are evoked. Same same but different.

    I live in a small village in the Prachinburi Province and have seen the “Magic Man” perform similar rituals for different things. Usually the old people in the village want to know why they have a particular ailment and then what to do to get relief. Many boiled whole chickens, pig head, hard boiled eggs and of course cigarettes and whiskey are offered. About two years ago during one of these events the person that was possessed asked to no one in particular , “Did the Farang bring Farang Whiskey for me?” I brought a bottle of Jack before and I guess he liked it. I’ve seen a lot of things at these annual events I just can’t explain away. Definitely not on the regular tour. 😀

    My wife's aunt is a shaman like this. Part of our "engagement party"/"spiritual wedding" she channelled my wife's father in very much the same manner as this lady. I'm 90% a sceptic but can respect their culture(my wife is like 50/50, although has typical Thai superstitions) and it was a very interesting thing to witness and take part in. The shift in the shaman's personality. The seriousness of the questioning and conversation(in our case. this looks like a much more enjoyable time). And the sudden shift back to a completely casual and fun setting after. I think it would be nice to have such spirituality. But a person believes what they believe until they don't. Maybe I need a mushroom trip or something.

      I see it in a Jungian sense that we are connected through a collective unconscious, within it there are archetypes based on past ancestors that could come forward, just like in multiple personality disorder certain personalities take hold of the being. I think anything like this requires direct personal experience, and even though I have had many experiences with plant medicines, traveling into the individual and collective psyche, I still remain skeptical on things that I have no direct experience of, such as channeling the dead 🙏

    Interesting and fascinating ceremony! It's different from a ceremony I once attended locally near where we lived in Bang Bua Thong.
    You'll have to ask Damo about this, it's called สวดภาณยักษ์ and back then we didn't have the fancy smartphones we have nowadays otherwise I would definitely have made some footage. The chanting of the monks is not what you normally hear in the temples.
    We have also once attended another ritual and I think it had to do with Nang Ta-khian นางตะเคียน. Someone who could also channel some deity. But I would have to ask Paung if she can remember more details about it.

    Very interesting Vlog Ryan. Every ancient culture has it's Shaman.
    In Scotland and probably including the UK we have Seers.
    You probably know of them. There have been some very well know Seers as well as some not so well know.
    Where I lived the last Seer burnt at the stake for witchcraft was "The Bran Seer" , he was feared by local folk because of his accuracy in what he saw an predicted.
    In modern times in a village in the North of Scotland there's a Seer who many have visited and swear by him in what he has to say too them, my own family members included.
    He lives in a village called Ardguy in the highlands. On one occasion one of my Aunts visited him. This is how it went
    When she entered his room he looked at her and said" what are you doing here"
    My aunt a little taken aback said, " I'm here to see you".
    He looked at her and said, " you don't need me, you have the gift, but before you can use it you must first forsake your religion ".
    My aunt left without saying another word too him because she was a devout Christian and she never returned again.
    I am a great believer in the spiritual world. I'm not talking religion, I'm talking spiritualism.
    Thanks for sharing Ryan

    My grandmother is from the Tai Dam, an ethnic group that lives in Thailand. There is also a tradition of belief in ghosts or ancestral spirits. Similar ceremonies are held all over the country. Details vary according to area and ethnicity. But the basis is the same, namely the story of ghosts and spirits of ancestors. In addition to the ethnic people, there are also various hill tribes. Because in this region the majority are of the "Tai" race. Except for the Khmer people. For the most part, this kind of ritual still exists only in villages in the countryside, far from the city. As for the main Thai traditions that foreigners know, such as Songkran or Loi Krathong, basically these rituals will be present. It's just that Buddhist rituals cover most of it. But the ancient beliefs were based entirely on worshiping the spirits of ancestors. Therefore, what foreigners always ask is why in Thailand there are small houses similar to bird houses everywhere. That is evidence of the belief in ghosts and ancestral spirits. Because that is the house for the spirit of the original owner of the area to live in. And this is not found in the teachings of Buddhism.😊🙏

    Hi Ryan and Co...
    Years ago I had the pleasure of company with a girl named Meena, whilst in Thailand.
    I have no need to tell you how beautiful she was, however. She explained to me that she was having surgery for an on- going breast condition. Her right-hand one had been fitted with a plastic implant of some kind and the other was waiting for something similar.
    Meena was a girl of limited financial means and lived with her parents in a wooden house with a tin roof, kampong style, on the outskirts of Bangkok.I am sure you will be familiar with this type of village housing.
    Meena and I conversed all through the evening. night and even until dawn break. Her command of the English language was first class. However, I digress. What I was going to say was that Meena was wearing a crucifix alongside a Buddha style pendant around her neck. She told me it was good to follow both ways of life, and that they were quite compatible.
    During our long conversation about all matters of life and death Meena said she often went to a buddist temple where she would meet with the priest. So long as she took with her a piece of her deceased father's clothing the priest would be able to "contact" Meena's father. The girl could then converse with her father.
    This revelation fascinated me and Meena said she would take me to witness the process soon.
    Sadly. before this invitation took place I had to leave the area for Singapore and sadly I have never set eyes upon the young lady since.
    I guess, having just watched your VLOG that this is the kind of thing I might have had the privilege of seeing.
    What a great country. your life there must be just amazing. I would love to know more about the kind of thing this girl was able to do. If it is of course true.
    Thanks for the VLOGS. Keep them coming please.
    Best wishes.... Pete

    Thanks for sharing this Ryan and Damo. All very interesting but totally different from what I believe in. I am not doubting its authenticity for those who want to believe in such rituals, but for me it is totally alien and not something I would wish to become involved with. As a Christian I have seen similar things when people claim to be possessed by the Holy Spirit, but I find that most of the time it is fake, caused by some sort of hysteria and people wanting to believe it. I think that these ancient beliefs are handed down over the centuries and that people who want to believe in their ancestral spirits returning within them will continue such rituals. Your documenting of this event is important because who knows how much longer it will continue for. God bless you Ryan and Mo and keep you and the family safe from evil influences. 😀❤🙏

    This is all that runs through my mind on this one. Its a bit demonic in my opinion.
    Deuteronomy 18:10-11 - Let no one be found among you who consigns a son or daughter to the fire, or who is an augur, a soothsayer, a diviner, a sorcerer, one who casts spells, or one who consults ghosts or familiar spirits, or one who inquires of the dead.

    • @lifeinruralthailand
      @lifeinruralthailand  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Isn’t Deuteronomy also the part where women should marry their rapists or suggests God is a mass murderer? I agree there is potential for something demonic here but no more than we have seen in the churches, drinking the blood and eating the flesh and of course the sex crimes rife within the establishment. Too many people killed, burned and drowned by the church for engaging in their birth right in my opinion 🙏

    • @howtomoderate
      @howtomoderate 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lifeinruralthailand The rape one you are talking about Deuteronomy 22:28-29. The translation of the Bible from Hebrew to English used the word rape when the word in Hebrew actually translates to seize. The Hebrew word is Tapas. Tapas can mean rape but if you are putting the actual verse and historical context in context when using the word tapas, this likely means if a man is caught dating, laying with, or holding a virgin woman he is to pay the parents and marry her.
      The mass murder thing I would need more context on. Usually people use Sodom and Gamorrah for that one. In that case I believe the people were warned for 400 years to change their ways if I remember correctly before wrath would be placed upon them. In which most people who were born in the faith who leave (not saying you) use the God is love part of the Bible so much that they forget he is also wrath. They forget he was going to wipe all of us out hence a huge reason for the crucifixion.
      When it comes to the church I would tread lightly on placing judgement on a religion based on what man has done in the name of a religion. I assume you are talking about the crusades?
      Anyway my post is to not offend rather than express my opinion. I enjoyed the video in the aspect that I can see another belief other than my own. I don't agree with it and do think this opens the doors for demonic possession but this is my opinion. Everyone has one it doesn't mean I am right or wrong. And the reason I leave verses in my comments is because I know that you study belief systems. It's all perspective.

    • @lifeinruralthailand
      @lifeinruralthailand  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sure, my response is also not meant to offend, I respect your opinion, i guess this is a discussion on what we see from what perspective, some may consider the ritual of drinking blood and eating flesh as demonic if not properly understood. These animist practices predate christianity, which i believe to be a viable way to connect with the divine for some people but not the exclusive way. These practices, and many other shamanic practices, were what humans were doing to connect with a higher power long before the crusades, and they were slaughtered, burnt and vilified for it. Having spent most of my life studying all the religions, it seems quite clear they are all pointing to a common truth and it is actually humanity they have in common, they need not be exclusive. In my own shamanic practice, there has been nothing more powerful for my sobriety, for living deeply and true to myself than the experiences and teachings i have received through plants. I am very happy for those that find it through scripture or other religions, but i feel a live and let live attitude is important, it is not for the church to dictate what is demonic, I find it to be quite an immature religion in that sense, as opposed to Hinduism and Buddhism that is.

    • @howtomoderate
      @howtomoderate 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lifeinruralthailand It is difficult to explain the context in a TH-cam comment as you brought up many topics. I guess I would say when you are researching western religions try to understand the differences between the old and new testament and why there is a difference between them. As well as the difference between Catholicism and biblically teaching. Catholicism I am sure you are more familiar with coming from Britain. And when it comes to being saved by grace alone which is in the Bible Catholics don't even try to explain this because they don't recognize it. I guess what I am saying is that it seems from what I am reading that you are putting Catholics and biblical Christians in the same boat. Which is like me putting Hindus and buddhists in the same boat. They have similar practices but are anything but similar in so many aspects. And it's nothing against Catholics. But their teachings can be refuted very easily by just reading the Bible and cross referencing the text with Greek and Hebrew. I know that we will never come to an agreement on "pagan" beliefs but I would just urge you to dive a bit deeper into the Bible rather than judge what a few cult creators like the Vatican, and other cults twisting Scripture to fit their own beliefs into a word that is meant to be unchanging. Biblical Christians have not murdered in the name of God since the new testament as the number one rule of God since the resurrection is to be a pacifist and overcome evil by loving and judging righteously. If they do kill without good reason meaning unprovoked such as the Muslims massacring Christians which started the crusades, then that is how you know for a fact that they are not Christian.

    Iam even more confused now than ever..my understanding is thai Buddhists belive when 1 passes they reincarnate & here they are today connecting with the spirits of family members who have passed !! Have they had a bit of time off b 4 reincarnating hope they dont hang around too long & miss a new body to incarnate in.well as long as all are happy thats all that matters tripping with the right plp in right place is key to a good trip or spiritual day out .would be great to see them try some dmt or 5 meo dmt for the more advanced they could connect with non reincarnated beings from another dimensions wonder what they would make of that?,🧚‍♀️💖👽🥰💞⚘🌈🧚‍♀️😇
