Do not buy epiphone! You have planty of options. Start from heritage guitars company to eastwood to cort and vintage guitar (the brand name is vintage) No need for gibson/ epiphone.
So technically Epiphone might as well be under the same umbrella as Harley Benton etc. IF they weren’t owned by Gibson. So… since they’re so cut out on playing authentic. Shouldn’t buy Epiphone either. By their own standards, by my standards buy a guitar that feels nice to you. Ultimately the proper way to make that decision.
Hi Danny! Buying anything under the Gibson umbrella would be giving money to the corporation. They have different divisions but yes, it's supporting the lawyers also. If you want one of their products without supporting them, buy something pre-owned. Gibson doesn't profit from that.
@@guitarhobbywithdannythemedic Yeah, maybe. I never thought about that. I was thinking from a guitar shop's point of view. The manufacturer doesn't get anything from a shop's used sales. Not even the big box stores.
I don't have problem with Gibsons lawsuit. Once I purchased something from them that money isn't mine anymore so they can do whatever they want with it. I only care about the product that I'm buying. So nitrocellulose finish, neck angle, high price... not for me but I do understand and respect people who want that.
I'm no a hater and may own one eventually but I can't justify the price and basic design flaws. Look and sound good though. I have an Epiphone Les Paul 1960s Tribute Plus which has everything I would want from an LP and even came with Gibson pickups. A Gibson equivalent guitar would have cost me around three to four times the price. I think Gibson is much cheaper than Fender USA though. Bolt on necks and loaded pickguards save a lot on manufacturing costs when compared with set and neck through builds. Solid colours can mean cheaper, less attractive wood as well. Compare the price of a Gibson LP Studio with an American Strat. Fender's are more of a production line build than Gibson's.
The older Gibsons I believe had better quality, anything from early 2000s up to 2013. After that they went down hill. Gibson lawsuits and cracking the whip on other companies is ridiculous.
You say you want a quality instrument. One with history. Good reputation. Unique. Why not look at a Rickenbacker 330. I have had one since 2013 and I can not say a bad thing about it. Made in USA Santa Anna CA. The quality is beyond beautiful. Fit and finish. Perfect. Sound and tone awesome. Go see one in person. Then you decide. Once I bought the Rickenbacker I sold my Gibson.
@@guitarhobbywithdannythemedic you are right. But you did say you would like to spoil yourself just once. Rickenbacker seems to have stuck to the original marketing concept unlike Gibson and Fender etc. when I got mine I was blown away at quality and attention to detail. Anyway. Great channel.
I won't buy a new Epiphone because of Gibson's filth is rubbi off on them. Epiphone is charging more and more these days and they are nothing special. Infact these new models made in their Chinese factory seem way less quality than the older Korean made Epis. (The ones out of the Saein factory are hidden gems.) These inspired by Gibson guitars are just a bunch of hype. So what they slightly changed the neck carve, still feels like a D. So what that they put CTS pots in them. They are the lowest level, bottom of the barrel CTS pots that don't work very well. The last Epiphone LP modern 2022 I checked out had a 6 piece body, multiple qc issues, weighed a ton, sounded like it had a wet blanket over the pickups and had neck dive. How does a LP have neck dive!? Was priced at $900! The only good thing about it was the redesigned headstock. Even the $300-$400 Gretsch's played better, sounded better and had none of those issues. I've been noticing over the last five years or so that pretty much any guitar out of the Indonesian Cort factory regardless of the branding on it is gonna slay those new inspired by Gibson Epis and cost less, play/sound better and have flawless fit and finish.
Supporting Epiphone supports its parent company. You have to decide for yourself how far will you go. I had a 73' SG. It was made like you would expect. Gibson has gone downhill since although there have been a few exceptions along the way. There are many better guitar makers now that cost less in my opinion. Same goes for Fender but not to the same extent. Kit guitars have come a long way too. They offer you the ability to make the guitar of your dreams down to the last component. You can even buy a Fender roasted maple neck for your own "Parts-Caster" if you like with your own choice of pick-ups, tremolo, electronics, etc., for less than the big boys charge. I make them my way. You can buy a $250.00 Ibanez completed guitar, then replace the pickups and level/dress/polish the frets and you'll have a super low action shredder for well less than $500.00. Or just a well rounded jack of all trades model if that's your thing.
Meh, get whatever guitars you like. I'm not a Gibson fan boy, but I have a couple of Epiphones, because I wanted them. If I actually WANTED a Gibson, I would save up and get one... but I am still not convinced that they are worth the price they put on them. Bottom line, for me, if it's a good guitar, it's a good guitar. For instance, I love Fender, but I have Squiers too. My Squiers and Mexican Fenders are just as enjoyable for me to play as the American Strat that I have. Each guitar has its own unique vibe. The weight, different neck profiles, shapes, colors, pickup configurations, switching options, wiring options... All of these things are factors that make me pick up a different guitar and play it each day. If I only had one, it would probably be the best version of one of these guitars (probably a super strat). I would look for one with the most versatile switching and pickup options in it, that was very comfortable for me to play. With mods your possibilites are pretty endless these days as well. The logo on the headstock is the LEAST important thing. There are so many good companies shipping guitars that are made on CNC machines from other countries. Many manufacturers own other brands, esp. in the auto industry, the main company will always get a cut of the profits. I see it as similar to a pyramid style payoff system. If someone wanted to make a statement in protest it would be more effective if directed directly at the particular manufacturer. Have you seen Gibson factory tour? OMG the employees doing the finish have no respiratory safety equipment, it really pissed me off, they market themselves as the ultimate and state of the art, yet do not care about their workers. I am on the fence about them, I have feelings either way. They are the Harley Davidsons of the guitar world, going after wannabe jukebox hero's that work good paying office jobs. They need to reinvent themselves, come up with some new designs and "quality" bolt on neck guitars and get the younger crowd into them, they can make profit that way as well.
Like someone else said, why not support one of the companies that Gibson is suing, like Heritage? I own a 2002 Gibson Standard 60's re-issue that I never play because it's too heavy. My personal Les Paul quest is one that has comfort cuts. I hate square-edged bodies.

Full disclosure. I love Gibson guitars. I think that if you hate Gibson guitar's that you should also hate Epiphone. If you hate Gibson so much, why would you want to buy an Epiphone when they're trying to make their guitars as close to Gibson guitars as possible? Also, why would you pay $1000 for an Epiphone guitar when you can buy a Harley Benton for $139? I think they're both made in China. Shouldn't you be able to buy an Epihone $139 also? You should keep your hate pure. Gibson pure. 😎👍
I don't hate Gibson guitars, I don't agree with the Gibson culture. The main point for me is pricing and what you actually get for your money you can buy a very good guitar with good features and hardware for let's say 500 so what does over 1500 get me, there are so many better options now from when I first started playing I got a 158 uk pound harley Benton telecaster and after a set up it was fantastic and that setup was great the guitar didn't fight me, I have said before I do guitar repair and setups for folk as a side gig and I have had some real bad Gibson and fenders to do that have took a lot more work than some cheaper guitars and the fanboys furiously defend their products as it should be acceptable for a premium priced products to arrive new in that state. As for authentic designs if you do digging Fender and Gibson when they were making strides did copy or take inspiration from work by various small luthiers and guitar designers, through the history of industry you have the guy that comes up with an idea and the Steve jobs or Bill Gates comes along and sees the potential in it and buys the property for a small financial reward and then turns that product in to the money maker. One area that I think both Fender and Gibson have fallen behind is innovation somthing like a slimmed down les Paul with an alternative take on the carves would be good that's not an overpriced custom shop model. As for buying epiphone I would because the ones I have owned and set up for others have been very high quality and have needed less work than the premium counterparts.
Mexico makes cars and guitars..had a limited edition J.D.Black '57 maple neck in gold 🌟 metallic with Texas Special pickups.. Mexican made... great guitar..one of the guys on a forum here in Sweden refused to believe it was really real..(!?!) ..my take: I look at the "Chibson" as something Gibson wouldn't, couldn't do.. unlike Fender/Martin..in the Japanese belief of "Shintoism" everything has a Soul, don't think there are "evil spirits" in guitars..(maybe in Humans).. nobody makes a Gibson Les Paul like Gibson...ok..But the Orville was pretty close..if you love the Forest but hate the 🌲 tree..well..buy a flute..
I won't buy a Gibson my cousin bought a new les Paul custom in 1982 the finish was horrible the neck finish was horrible it had tiny bumps throughout the entire neck it was a gold flaked custom it played bad because of this issue but sounded incredible back then the price was not crazy like today but he still paid a lot I did love playing that guitar but it had a flawed finish . I love my Epiphone 60s inspired Les Paul I could care less about Gibson owning Epiphone .
It would be naive to boycott Epiphone when they are currently making great value and quality copies of the overpriced and overhyped Gibsons, just because of the ownership. Most large and affiliate companies are not squeaky clean or altruistic. I have two recent Epis and they are both excellent for the price. No point in me losing out because Gibson are crap and Epiphone are the opposite in recent years. I don't hate Gibson, I just think they are clueless when it comes to what people want and are prepared to pay for an excellent guitar in the current decade so far.
Sadly, everytime you buy an Epiphone, Gibson profits from it. But that's all they're getting from me. My first and only Gibson sucked so much that i consider it to this day the worst purchase of my life.
The worst guitar I ever had was my first Gibson. Standard SG Every non Gibson SG type guitar I've played was better than that authentic Gibson. Then of course it fell of it's stand and severed It's own headstock completely off. I've had a few more Gibson's since then that we're good and where actually affordable but those days are over and every single new Gibson I've checked out over the last 6/7 years has been just plain bad on many levels of them not giving a s.
DANNY don't speak like this in Public! Gibson Spies are listening and everywhere!!!.. It does support Gibson.. but you will get a great guitar and Epiphone is a better company. One day maybe Gibson will learn quality control?
Danny….here’s my take….I believe 2 things about “Gibson”….nothing out there plays quite like a proper Gibson….Es-135, Standard LP or say SG….nothing….I’ve owned lots of Gibsons AND more “affordable” guitars, such as Chibson, Vintage, Epiphone, etc. “Gibson” offers us ALL an “affordable” option to a LP or SG….Epiphone, Kramer are great examples….so I don’t “hate” Gibson, I just play (and collect) whatever my budget allows. We ALL have that option available without needing to “hate” Gibson.

It was okay! I made sure I was 6 feet away from anyone else!!!! OH NO.. THAT WAS FOR COVID!!!!!!!!!
I’d say support Epiphone. They have been making great guitars and it wouldn’t be fair to stop supporting them just because Gibson owns them
He didn't ask if it was 'fair' it's supporting the same CEO and the same shareholders making the decisions he's upset about
