I've been to the Turkish part of Kurdistan and had the best experience there, everyone was so friendly, I met a group of guys who invited me to have dinner with them, one of them spoke absolutely perfect English and made me feel like family. I took down his email but lost it in my travels, would have loved to have kept in touch and sent them gifts for being so kind to me.
I remember when we invaded Iraq, back in 2003, and we were getting videos from Baghdad, and my mom said, "The streets look clean and well kept." That was her way of doubting that Iraq was a barbaric country in need of civilizing by the U.S. military.
I was thinking about how he was nervous about being an Israeli in Iraq but I think they'd probably have harder feelings towards Americans like myself. Although I can understand it because what our government did to them was horrible
I feel like videos like these are very important and can get us closer to peace. Focus more on the good in people and less on the bad. Unfortunately going to "enemy" territory is actually unsafe and not anyone can do that and survive.

To be honest, that was the most scared I'd been for a very long time. I was really suspicious when they told me to come with them after 5 minutes of having met, especially with them finding out I'm Israeli and being from Mosul. I was ready to have to run. I don't think it would have made a difference , whatever his view on Israel . The Israelis and Kurdish people have really good relations and have supported each other in the past. Israel is a big supporter of Kurdish independence.
I think the guy speaking a little more english than the other was an assyrian from Mosul because in that area still live but lived a lot of assyrians and he resembles a lot the assyrians I met and befriended when I went the first time to Sweden. Very nice and friendly and warm people too, the assyrians of northern Irak, their ancient land since ancient Assyria :D

You should go to Mosul ( Ninveh plaines) and meet the indigenous people of the land ( the Assyrians), you will be baffled by their Hospitality.

I had a good experience in Libya: friendly, kind, welcoming humble people eager to share with you. You can't fake friendliness and hospitality. I am not Muslim and believe that Arabs , Muslims are very friendly and generous people. I did not experience the social decay, crime we witness in West on daily bases. Libya used to be very safe and blessed before they killed Quaddafi.

If I was explicitly telling them something like that they would probably think I'm trying to pick a fight. It would be a rather awkward statement to make out of the blue, and would probably be translated as hostility, and they obviously wouldn't be so hecking nice to a guy who is clearly trying to be a menace.
Let's say I was famous or something, and they came to think that without me having to tell them. In that case, I reckon they would probably not want to talk with me in the first place.

I don't think it would have made a difference , whatever his view on Israel . The Israelis and Kurdish people have really good relations and have supported each other in the past. Israel is a big supporter of Kurdish independence.

I think the guy speaking a little more english than the other was an assyrian from Mosul because in that area still live but lived a lot of assyrians and he resembles a lot the assyrians I met and befriended when I went the first time to Sweden. Very nice and friendly and warm people too, the assyrians of northern Irak, their ancient land since ancient Assyria :D
One of them had a shirt that mentioned Jesus so maybe he was an Assyrian Christian
