As someone who is part of Ground Control, this documentary was amazing. Harm reduction saves lives. People dont understand all the behind the scene stuff we do and how it impacts the festival. We just quietly saving lives and its the most amazing thing in the world. Thank you for making this, you're amazing.

I would argue 2009 was the last one. 2010 was the first two day event and both days finished at 2? But all other years were one day until 4 am. I went to Vegas day two of 2010. Because it ended too early.

Dang, this documentary was really cool to watch. I'm a relatively new raver, just started going to EDC in 2021. Just finished my third a couple weeks ago. Insomniac is going full circle and coming back to Exposition Park and the Coliseum in August for Hard Summer. I'm interested to see how crowd control specifically is going to evolve since 2010. I bet there'll still be crazy lines to get into the Coliseum and BMO stadium fields. Also really interesting to learn about the history of harm reduction. I feel like harm reduction is pretty normalized in the current scene. You see ground control and medical staff everywhere, and the Oasis is a nice touch. Awesome film! Thanks for posting it!

I moved to Cali in 1998 just to experience SoCal raves.. first big events were Narnia, Jujubeats, audiotistic.. o went to a bunch of smaller underground events in Pomona I remember getting caught in the riot outside of Noc. Wonderland 98 and getting tear gassed by San Bernadino SWAT and it was a candy raving nightmare. Wouldn’t trade it for the world, Pre-Patriot Act raving was special and it will never happen again on that scale. The underground goes deeper while the surface is a big business commodity.. it lives on not on a smart phone video, but as personal experiences . Glad you are another one like myself, we prolly crossed paths a few times back then. Cheers!

It’s a small world after all!!! What a send off! So I take it you got in 😂 I just remember the fences caving, the mace patrol, helping people not get trampled, then partying our ass off in the parking lot till like 4-5am.. I only went to a few more after Nocturnal, my gf had a wicked bad night in Pomona and we ended up moving to Colorado for the winter jobs. Denver’s scene was pretty cool as well, they had abandoned mall raves, big indoor sports complex with sandy volleyball court cuddle puddles.. long shot from my midwestern rave roots in dank old factory houses and weird farms and trippy forests..
It’s a special thing just for the revelations, the experience, the location. I time travel everytime I think of those days. Vivid as yesterday..

Awesome to see and so nostalgic, I’m only 10 min in but that brought me back! My first rave was 99’ Nov, The Gathering @ Homebase. I remember it took forever to get inside. The line was like a sea of people all squished together. The metal fence was being moved because of it. I lost my friends in a panic. Found them and lost again but found a group to kick it with. Multiple rooms, that place was huge, people just dancing in the dark. Sad I only got to experience Homebase once, after that it was either Maritime Hall in SF or the massives in Santa Clara or the many random venues around the whole Bay Area. Good times!

In the early 2000’s LA had way too much time and money to spend on destroying the electronic music scene. They specifically targeted the most affordable live events for young adults. I used to hit a party every Friday, Saturday, and sometimes Sunday’s at the park or daytime events. The Fox Theater, Orion, Rialto rink, a handful of warehouses, Castaic, Mojave, QTopia - LAs Premiere Rave Venue, Rev. Joes Empire of Dirt, and a dozen other places from SD to the a high desert. It got to a point where we stopped trying to track the stupid names that were supposedly the theme but that died down when every other party had the fire marshal show up with the Sheriff or a handful of LEOs looking to ruin someones night.
Who remembers the RAVE Act protest at the Federal building in Westwood? Wild times.
The best part was the variety of parties and crews throwing events. Shaggy Land, Pajama Jam, $5 Make Ya Hola, There was something for everyone. Small hardcore parties, RESPECT, underground warehouse parties, Moontribe, UProductions, it got to a point where the only thing we followed were the production crews. Some of the greatest times in my life.
    Thanks Joe Biden.

There was music, dancing, peace, love, unity and all that, but there was also the element of danger. When it's all over, you felt like you all went to war together and survived, it's a different feeling and a different bond.

My first EDC was a NOS. The coliseum was pretty special....dancing on the stadium seats looking down at the crowd.....god I miss that, but it can never go back to LA. It's way too big now and I love it. See you there in a couple of weeks! woo whooo!

An excellent tribute to a scene from a time and place that's behind us now, Le. Thank you for your work in harm reduction, on the ground at festivals, but also in capturing the motives and decisions that created the policies we have now. When we have passionate people with true respect for the culture opening and informing these conversations, we can counterbalance the policy decisions that are made out of fear or ignorance.

Behind us? That's what we thought in the 90s. I'd love too see more FreeTekno gatherings globally where you can bring your own rig setup and pounding speakers, like in the French scene. The worst thing for parties was going from dance circles to so much party footage coming out was the punters staring at the dj with like one finger in the air. PLUR
