Nicely done. I dont do my Eagle quite as fast, but Im just as smooth and it sounds so cool going from 13 all the way down to 6 for a turn off the highway. Makes me smile everytime.
One thing I don't understand is do the exhaust valves stay open all the time when the jake is on, or do they only open when the piston is about to reach tdc?
@Tompetty1970 youre almost right when you downshift form say 1800 you jake down to 1500 downshift and kick it back up to 1800 until you get down to the lower gears then it depends on your roadspeed . if slow enough you can use 200 rpms to slow down.but it is correct when you downshift a 13 you slow down by jaking, pre select next gear, give it fuel in which spits trans into next lower gear and repeat procedure until you get to the lower range then shift like a 10
Using the jake brake is actually better for the truck then using the actual brakes. All a jake brake does, is open up the outgoing valve from the cylinder and release all of the compressed gas. Thus slowing it down.
@serlon99 No it is not just to maintain speed on a hill. If you took a CDL test, you would know that the jake brake is a retarder system, which is meant to help slow the vehicle down because the brakes aren't capable of handling the entire operation of braking for extended periods. Nearly every large vehicle has a retarder system, and for that reason they are known as engine brakes, because they provide braking force as a supplement to the standard airbrakes.
I don't get why anyone would think this is harming the engine. That's what it's for. The higher the RPM`s the greater the braking effect. The engine has a governor on it, if you can get it to rev high enough to get it into the next lower gear then there's no prob. Maybe a little extreme overall but not outright abuse. Much more cost effective to change the oil than the brakes.
@TheRayBanRebel Like it's meant to be used: to maintain speed on a hill. NOT as a brake, not as a substitute for the brake pedal and not to sound cool as most seem to use it. TNX.
nah you dont have to heel toe if you watch his right foot never moved from the gas pedal he just lifted his foot just enough, and if you see his left leg never moved at all no clutch or brake used at that time
Cause the jakes help a lot with slowing the truck down, it does not wear out the brakes as much. Thats a lot of money to replace brakes on a semi. Being an owner opp, im more concerned about helping the brakes last longer than about disturbing a few people. Other than that, I only turn off the jakes were ever signs are posted to do so.
no it's not. a compression brake (Jacobs brake) is actually designed to function at a higher rpm. they work better at higher engine speed therefore your not actually putting that much stress on the engine, yeah you are on the jake towers themselves that close the valves but there designed as well to eventually wear down. not trying to be a smartass I just work on them everyday
I understand the benefits of Jake braking, it's an important tool for truck drivers. However, don't you think that drivers should use a little good judgement as to where to use the Jake? Imagine being a senior citizen living in a small town. Old folks don't enjoy a lot of noise. Imagine being a shift worker, you're trying to get your 8 during the day, small town, disturbed sleep. Jake brakes are for relatively unpopulated areas, and again, drivers should exercise good judgement. Don't you think?
I asked my uncle this one time he said the exhaust valves stay open so there is no compression stroke. Then again not all truck mechanics know what they are talking about.
from gear 1 to 4 you would be lucky to be doing 15mph if you try slowing down with them gears at speed you will blow the gearbox out aswell as snaping the diff and drive shaft
This man is no driver... He is a Pilot!
This guy can drive
Nicely done. I dont do my Eagle quite as fast, but Im just as smooth and it sounds so cool going from 13 all the way down to 6 for a turn off the highway. Makes me smile everytime.
I want to try it but not gonna lie I’m kinda scared, do you have any tips ??

Rookie here. Got about 2 weeks driving a 10 speed so far. How is he downshifting but looks like he is not getting revs up between shifts ?
ORGULLO MEXICANO////// MEXICAN PROUD... WIHT JAKEBRAKES VERY NICEEE. AMIGO
One thing I don't understand is do the exhaust valves stay open all the time when the jake is on, or do they only open when the piston is about to reach tdc?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHUY! LOVE YOU! TAKE CARE ALWAYS, AND DRIVE SAFE.

that's a bad ass k-whopper.. its that much better with a driver that can drive it that well.
that sounds cool, but isnt that alot of pressure on the jake at high rpm.

@dixietrukr no its not its just the exhaust valves held open and the compression of the cylinders .theres no pressure there
Driver that what this man do!
una shulada primo, y suena chingon
Next GTA I say they should put jake brakes on the trucks it would be awesome
Precision and elegance with the fuller. Could you upload more videos like this?
Man sounds just like my dads Kenworth woke me up out of the bunk in the back xD
My kind of music
@TheRayBanRebel Like it's meant to be used: to maintain speed on a hill. NOT as a brake, not as a substitute for the brake pedal and not to sound cool as most seem to use it. TNX.
And in order to keep said braking force, the transmission has to be shifted to keep the rpms up to use the compression.
and thats how its done folks
You GO BOY. Doing it like you know what you doing. SHOWIN OFF. It sounds like when I DO IT. LOL
thumbs up for trucker!!!!
But you use brakes first, or 2nd 3rd or 4th
great jake sound

bien hecho coleguita la pura practica hace al maestro cordiales ay de 8 nomas
nah you dont have to heel toe if you watch his right foot never moved from the gas pedal he just lifted his foot just enough, and if you see his left leg never moved at all no clutch or brake used at that time
That's some smooooth shifting. :D
That's not a driver... That's a pilot!!
Hey compa de donde eres tu
Matamoros Texas🤙
Kenworth and Peterbuilt are both owned by PACCAR.

haha you should drive one then. Take a extended hood 379 out with a 600hp Cat and an 18 speed. Nicest riding truck out there.
That shits so loud, a lot of podunk towns on national routes ban jake brakes in town lol
beast
sounds like you need to make the truck louder
I asked my uncle this one time he said the exhaust valves stay open so there is no compression stroke. Then again not all truck mechanics know what they are talking about.
Vatos locos.....Blood in...blood out.....ese
It sounds loud, I know, loud pipes saves lifes....
BEAST
Podras aser eso con una caja de 14 o una de 16 amigo
