Maybe some of you wonder what is so special about Karmapa and his speech that deserves standing ovation in the end. Well, you will not find it in his words, there are many more talented speakers and brighter ideas than compassion. Important is what Karmapa represents. He might said nothing at all and stil he would have been applauded. Because this man represents the beautiful being which is in everyone of us. He is the beautiful being, by status. And he carries this quality through centuries.
I am writing this comment in Aug 2021, when my country is suffering thousand of death due to Covid-19. Million people in the world are under harsh situation. The concept that Karmapa has given of being aware of happiness in each every breath means a lot to human being in the Earth now. Perhaps we had never paid enough attention that ones could loose their freedom forever in seconds. I would thank you everyone for all you have done and I am sorry that I have also not sincerely paid good enough attention on your information.
This is my second time watching this talk, so touch and make me crying. Thanks to HH Karmapa, you are real Buddha. Thanks to the translator doing the great job.
Om mani padme hum! Thank you for the inspiring video on the teachings and reflections of His Holiness. May all beings be happy. KARMAPA CHENNO! Mangalam!
our main motivation may be to have happiness but in doing so we may get lost in the motivation just to obtain; missing the opportunities to experience joy that is presented in a subtle way.
I don't know why people don't like this talk. The message I got was sometimes we are more interested in profit and growth that we forget to care about others. While profit and growth aren't necesarily bad, they aren't the whole picture and ignoring the rest will not get us where we want to go.
Tôi nghĩ phải hoàn thiện trái tim mình trước đã, nhất là biết ơn bố mẹ đã sinh ra mình luôn nghĩ về họ với lòng biết ơn sâu sắc rồi mới có thể biết yêu nhân loại
so many cranky people commenting out here. it's a positive message, god damn it, feel the bliss of healing nectar inside you, let the delusive waste water be drained by the holes of wisdom...
It would be nice if someone cared enough about the hearing impaired to put good subtitles on this. I wish some of you who hear would read this gibberish and think how we feel.
@@lkc1866 thanks to the excellent diction of this fantastic translator, the captions are pretty accurate. this is not always so and it is very frustrating for the hearing impaired to read such gibberish that is not at all what is being said.
mis hermanos en el Dharma..., sois las valiosas joyas que voy encontrando..., en el sendero del camino..., hacia el abandono del sufrimiento de samsara..., y por el beneficio de tod@s l@s seres del ciclo de existencias..., podamos tod@s alcanzar la iluminacion.
I'm ashamed to admit, I couldn't make it to the end. The translation process was maddening. Why doesn't the Dalai Lama come to Ted? He must have been invited by now.
I liked his ability to compare the destruction of Budas in Afghanistan to the destruction of the Berlin wall. Rather than an insult it was necessary to remove these for communication. I don't know if this lead to more communication, but I liked the twist in perspective.
I sometimes use the auto CC on Chinese Language talks and it types in English buy its not so great. Live CC would be really great, and for sure on archived media. I hope it can be put in motion real soon. Thank you for making this issue known. Karmapa Chenno!
I remember when the Dalai Lama came to Ottawa. It was great! The funniest part was when the Dalai Lama was trying to find the correct translation for a puppy at it's mother's breast (something to do with natural instinct to nourish... I forget) and he could not think of the right word. So he asked his translator to describe it and he just simple said "the uh..nipple" and everybody laughed! Good times!
@CymroGoch Case in point. You make an assertion, declare victory, and presume to have won the argument. You have to present the stronger argument to assume victory. You present NONE.
@maiashakti i'd like to add: And if you aren't affected by his words or presence, or even feel resistance and other Negativity, then still, Tashi Delek...may you truely live in contentment,,joy, ease and never feel separated!
I was particularly moved by the positive interpretation of the destruction of the Buddhas by muslims. Normally we would think that they would be offended by what happend, which would further detereorate relations between two peoples. What a cool positive Buddhist way of looking at things! Reminds me of 'Offer the other cheek!'
To all those who are complaining about this vid... maybe you don't know who the karmapa is, but he happens to be a revered lama that many people around the world listen to intently. Yea, perhaps its not exactly a riveting talk, Just cause he's not talking about a subject that you're interested doesn't mean you can slate him. Listening to different ideas, Isn't that what TED is all about? cheers.
So a word to the wise. This video is 20 min long, but half of it is in a language you cannot understand. I suggest letting the entire video download and then skipping ahead little bits at a time until the guy in the suit on the stage starts talking in English. Thumbs up to help everyone else out!1
@TalynCo I agree with your statement in principle, but I'm not sure this speaker had anything to say. What in particular did he say that was important or interesting? Could you bullet-point the items? And what did you learn?
poor translater gets data overload from karmapa .. but tyler dewar is doing a great job , the guy is a genius translating this much .. very impressive performance .
I have one serious question, whatever language he's speaking, does it not have the words "intelligence", "design" "thechnologiy", and all those words that he said in english?
i completely agree! we should invest more money in genetic and stem cell research to prevent heart diseases! and learn more about how it all works and how to improve it! ... : ) i think this was an interesting talk.. because i don t know a lot about Buddhism and this encouraged me to get some info about this religion.. keep it up!
actually from what i recall, he does speak english, just a limnited amount, but he also speaks chinese quite well, as in the mandarin dialect.. although does it really matter?
Translator's serious translation error:H.H the Karmapa didn't make any conment on the claps of Birlin Wall , the distraction of Bamion Buddha statue is different than the clapse of Birlin Wall , please don't put your own opinion in the translations.
@SAsgarters it depends how you define "religion". My perspective is that Buddhism is a set of practices and ideas designed to help you live in alignment with the principles of truth, love and compassion. Much like a good self help or personal development book it helps you understand yourself and the world around you better, not through telling you what to believe, giving you rules to live by or through mythical tales... but rather by encouraging introspection and critical thinking.
This man didn't say anything I found particularly offensive. Other than the moment where he suggested that in developing our "outward" selves we shouldn't forget our "inward" development... as if the two are some how antithetical or diametrically opposed to one another... In that if you develop one you somehow risk unbalancing the other. I did find that offensive and patronising.
Hats off to Tyler Dewar for such a rich translation - he made it seem so effortless
Galwa Karmapa Khenno!
The translator did a excellent job man.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💕💕🙏🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷👌👌👌
Tyler Dewar is a beast at translation.
The interpreter is awesome. he brings Karmapas words to life for those of us who don’t understand his language. thank you.

I feel the pain of His Holiness the Karmapa :( He is missing his family, mother and father, sooo much. I wish him the very soon reunion with them!
May Great Karmapa have good things come to him!
the role of the translator really captivates me. he is as calm and collected as the Karmapa during the talk.

Full of Grace. What a pleasure to be in his presence if only electronically.
As always, Your Holiness, your powerful and wise words touch our hearts. Thank you.

What is the evidence that this person is a Buddha?
Buddhas teachings, tolerance compassion, no ill towards one each other, good to remember this I think.
Thanks to His Holiness, to the translator and to the broadcast team.
Very impressive translator ♥️🙏. I can understand both languages 🤗🤭♥️♥️♥️😂 thank you sir karmapa. Huge love from East Sikkim sumin lingzey ♥️
The translator is as if he manifests Karmapa. Well done and expressed just as karmapa intends.
I appreciate the sharing and caring thoughts to organize this event. I have learnt new teaching or Karmapa. Much love and peace
Today watching this after so many years I am aware today more than ever of what contribution I can make in the world I live in

It's tibetan not french 🙂
French! So funny 😂 💕💕
Such depth and brilliance. God Bless the Karmapa!
so eloquently said, and translated. Deep respect and gratitude.
THIS MAN UNDERSTAND TIBETAN REALLY WELL. VERY IMPRESSIVE
More a blessing to end the conference than a TEDtalk. Not a complete waste of 25 minutes, but not really what I sub to TEDtalksDirector for.
Karmapa also looking on him so lovingly!
Long Life His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje
"Karmapa Khenno"
Wow, this translator is superhuman!
I am still shocked what happened 15 years before. Now going 80 and living for the past 40 years in Nepal
What’s happened? Can you tell me, please?
I believe he is real karmapa.
I‘m not. And now?
@@PatrickRomahn no problem
We believe him
really nice meaning of his talk, i respect you, thank you. also the American translator really did good job, thanks again,
Excellent translation !!

I always feel inspired at Karmapa's words.

How many years ago was it recorded?
This fellow translating is like a Star Trek era cyborg. Whoa!

A Karmapa for the books for sure.
He has taken the lineage where it has never been.Karmapa loves to be entertained. boredom can really bring

Very good point. I will see what I can do to facilitate proper subtitles on HH Karmapa's media.
I clicked "cc" at lower right corner to see English subtitle. You can try it?

There should be subtitles of more than 20 languages for this video. How come I can't see the choices of the subtitles here?
out the secret inner feelings.that maybe hard to control. even for the "enlightened one".
