You introduced me to Stoicism in my early Recovery.
It really made what I was reading in the AA & NA literature connect with me, to see that those authors had been inspired by stoic ideals.
A Eureka moment for me, Thank you.

The biggest nugget of information here that I gather was..
I can do something today that I will benefit from in 6 days. I can also find myself in an unwanted position caused by a choice made 6 days ago. This particularly hit home for me when the context was sleep.
It's nuts to hear the viking mention Russel as I recently heard his interview about addiction while he smashed on a point to work the 12 step program, something my dad has mentioned to me that works.
Once again I'm amazed at Life putting together information as if it was meant to all coincidence and ordered only for me. Huge nugget.

I heard the podcast audio a few days ago. Great conversation. Truly inspiring. The one idea that I take issue with is self identifying as an "Addict". Eff that noise. I have 19 months of sobriety. That's not a long time. But I think that wearing a scarlet letter; "A" for Addict; "A" for Alcoholic; is some BS. That's self shaming self talk. Anyone who calls you THAT has their priorities WAY out of wack.
I over-drank. For way too long. Now I don't drink alcohol anymore. Period. End of story.

It may be a scarlet letter for you and that's fine. You get to do it your way. It doesn't feel like a scarlet letter to me or many many people, i have zero shame surrounding it and letting people know that i'm an alcoholic has led to me having the privilege of helping so many people by NOT carrying shame about it and by sharing what life was like prior and what it's like now.

Bjorn!!!!! Come back!!! Mix some come back from the dead 💊 with the rehab 💊 your taking. Fyi 18yrs cleana & sober here. Stoicism's tenant of not being able to control a whole lot, ALMOST nothing thats external and thus not attaching how you feel to internally to it is a lot of the conclusion the 12 steps get you to. Along with giving you the power/ tools to pull off this UNBELIEVABLY difficult mindset. This part focuses on the right sizing and usage of the ego/ selfishness and self centeredness. So, prior to the step process the steps would say i was actually incredibly self-centered/ enlarged ego to think whatever is happening I have something to do with or that its somehow about me. The steps thru a properly done inventory, amendment and continued daily inventory process keeps this ego or self centeredness at bay, at least enough to not pick up but ideally live your best internal life.
