WW2....electronic metal detectors were already around. But reality suggests that in those times, you can't get one available all the time, So, what do you so? You FEEL out a way where there might not be one mine where you'll step. Not FIND every mine with JUST a knife.
I spoke to an old solider once, he cleared mines and minefields that was his job, seeing the relief in Kirby's eye and the sigh after. Now I get it, almost totally.....
I think vic jack etc are awesome, but doc has a wisdom, that Saunders needs like Kirk and Dr McCoy off Star Trek.Vic can never be replaced, he is the only sgt Saunders....
We had alot of under 18 years olds in our military during the war. Several 15 and 16 year olds joined and served in combat roles in every branch. There were a lot of young guys that had no birth certificates back then and family members would vouch for them saying they were 18. And we needed live bodies too bad to be too picky anyway. A friend of mine, an older guy, joined our Navy during WW2 when he was 16.
They would be better If they were beginning of the show until the end of the show instead of cut it off before their mission was even over. Videos are too darn short.
Checking for mines is funny! The chance of finding them with a knife!

The "kid" that said he was a basketball star was Buck Taylor, son of Dub Taylor, that later became Newly on gunsmoke.
Kid ..we must win this war soon .."we are running out of men" made me laugh like hell
Kirby: "I'll be a hundred in August."
Even though is complains all the time, Kirby can turn a phrase.
I
"I aint a sir I work for a living" - words from one of my D.I.s(drill instructors) during my first day in basic training.
