And she took her to the land of Mickey Mouse

Thanks for this video, Diane. My parents had a Theme Park in Belgium for 43 years. It started in 1961 as a music center with a venue and a huge beach. The first rides came in 1976. As it was a family business we lived "in" the park, together with my two brothers and two sisters. It was never planned by my parents to start an amusement park; it grew rather organically in that direction. Can't explain what a fantastic youth I've had there. On the other side: there's no such thing as 'fun forever', even if you have roller coasters in your backyard. But we still have very fond memories. Cheers, Tom/Thomas.

    0:07 Ahhh!! Noway!!!
Maybe it's the Guinness taking effect, but I would really, Really enjoy a breakfast burrito right about now. (For the record, it's about a quarter 'til seven in the evening...js)
A properly done breakfast burrito, of course.
    Ahhh...So good!
Maybe try a "Trash Can" burrito at a Mexican restaurant while you're in States?
It's whatever is leftover after they've already made everything they can make as they recycle their meats (including scrimp...lol) from one recipe to the next.
The chef loves it because you're doing them a favor hy helping to avoid any food being thrown in the garbage.
    It's a win-win.

Hi Diane, great video. We almost had a Disney World here in Australia, located in the Gold Coast Qld. However, at he last minute Warner Brothers won the bid and all the characters had to be changed. Donald Duck to Daffy Duck would have been fairly straight forward possibly rolling him in wet tar...yuk!!! Changing Mickey Mouse to Bugs bunny would have been quite painful I think with the buck teeth shoved in his mouth and stretching his ears...ouch!!! Pluto becoming Silvester would have been quite a challenge and I wouldn't even try to imagine the character changes to Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig. Anyway, wishing you the very best. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

I haven't been since 1980, but they used to have a Swiss Family Robinson tree, with a sort of roller coaster that went through the branches and the Rube Goldberg machinery they had in the movie. I suppose that's gone now; I haven't seen Disney push the movie in decades, nor have I seen it pop up on TV.

For a person like Diane (who dislikes crowds), Disneyland is probably Hell on Earth... I had a magical time at Disneyland when I was 11 years old. We went on a Wednesday morning in November of 1977. It was a cold drizzling day and the park was EMPTY. There was no lines or waiting on rides. We rode Space Mountain four times in a row, then we rode it backwards twice (all without leaving our seats). NOTHING can ever compare to that trip to Disneyland. I was spoiled for life (and I have lived in Anaheim, California for over 50 years).

Editor Diane expresses my feelings on Disneyland. I remember going as a child with my parents in the late 80s the cost to go wasn’t as bad as it is now. As a child I remember it being magical, so much to see and do, I haven’t been back since as I am trying this thing called Poverty and don’t have the time or money to go.

A couple quick things about todays video. The name of the woman who was in the crystal Ball is Leota Toombs (is that the perfect name for someone in the haunted Mansion), she was an Imagineer and help design Disneyland. You are in fact under water in the submarine ride, the top of it isn't underwater but you are. Also its line takes a long time because it has a very low number of riders per hour because of the long load and unload times. Only about 900 people an hour can ride it where Pirates is over 3400.

  • @protonneutron9046
    @protonneutron9046 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When I was young there were actual women dressed like mermaids under water in the Submarine ride. They had little air tubes that they would use to take breaths with. We've gone backwards over the decades.

The one piece of advice which people forget to give is that to enjoy Disneyland, one has to suspend the ability to get annoyed at things for about 24 hours. Just let go of worrying about other pushy goofballs, crowds, prices high enough that you have to sell your kids for scientific research to afford it, parking 50 miles away, cheesy rides that aren't as interesting as they should etc. When you simply "let go" of the ability to get annoyed for a day, it is a wonderful place to be a kid again.

    • @OldGeezerstoolbox
      @OldGeezerstoolbox ปีที่แล้ว +1

You have things reversed. People typically allow themselves to get annoyed at things because those things are not under their control: It is a YOU problem in most cases, not a things problem. By suspending your shortcoming, it is a lot more fun and hopefully you can learn to be a little better human being in the process.

I grew up a 20 minute drive from Disneyland and had an annual pass most years, this sure brought back a lot of memories. It's so amazing how it's a destination that people come from all over the world to visit, but for me going there was just as normal as going to the mall. Now that I don't live there anymore, I sure wish I hadn't taken it for granted.

On a side note, if you ever get to San Diego, my wife and I would be delighted to show you some of the sights, or, if your time is limited, at least treat you to a very good Mexican meal at a local restaurant. In my very humble opinion there are many other restaurants not owned by large corporations that are much better than Chipotle. Just my two cents, as they say. 😊

I was there as a 12 year old in 1968. There used to be a cable car system above ground that ran from a Swiss Chalet building , through a square shaped large opening through the Matterhorn and later added to ride into what was Tomorrow Land. these have been taken down. from Wikipedia: The Skyway closed on November 9, 1994. The reason for closure was attributed to metal fatigue. Stress cracks had developed inside the Matterhorn tower battery supports, and the only way to do maintenance was to open up the Matterhorn to do work on it.

You thought Disney Land's 85 acers was big, try the Magic Kingdom at 142 acres. Then there's Epcot at 300 acres, Animal Kingdom coming in at 580 acres, and little Hollywood Studios to finish with 135 acres. You know, now that I think about it, if you were to do all of Disney World and all the major non Disney theme parks in Central Florida, you might almost qualify for residency.

First, yes the "submarine" actually is a submerged ride. You enter the ride and are seated below the waterline. No tricks. Bubbles make believe you have gone below. The only "magic" is the water tight led screens showing Nemo clips in the distant.
I do wonder if you would have felt as uncomfortable in the sub in 2013 pre Covid as you do in 2023 post (are we really over it?) Covid.
I dont normally watch youtubers doing Disneyland. But you are one of my fave reactionists. This was a blast as I do speak Disney...and it is one of my fav places to go. Hope you at least had some fun. And yes to do it properly takes about 5 days.

Thanks Diane! Couldn’t get away from work, so I missed your live stream. Haunted Mansion is probably my favourite ride at Disney, although I haven’t been there for a few years. Take care.

I remember going to Disneyland up to like 3 times a year, 2 of those times where usually a blackout date.
But yeah... They priced all but the Super Rich out of the Park

Did you eat at the Blue Bayou restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride? It is my favorite place to eat at Disneyland.

I would have warned you not to go on the sub ride. For busy days, you can get a coupon slip for some rides where you reserve a time and skip most of the line. I could have also told you the iconic places to eat and tips from employees on the cheapest food options in others. There are also a lot of Disney 'Easter eggs', including all the 'hidden Mickeys' everywhere in the park. Another tip: If you are there for a birthday, they'll give you a free cookie and a badge, and every employee in the park will stop and wish you a happy birthday.

The prices at Disney parks and the consumerism are a huge issue related to the corporatization of the Walt Disney Company. It's heartbreaking.
That said, I went probably a dozen times as a kid in the80s and 90s. When I got back from Afghanistan I took my kids there because I wanted to share with my kids a place that was so special to me when I was young and had such wonderful memories. I took my family again a couple of years ago before my oldest left home.
If you go for only a day or two, you end up sprinting from ride to ride and you miss a lot of the little details that make it a magical place. It's definitely best if you go for 4 to 5 days. You can explore the park in the day and at night, relax, try out the different foods, and see the performances without the pressure of having to see everything in such a short time.
I wish that Disney wasn't so politicized and overpriced these days. Had they not gone that route, they could have opened another park or two in the US (probably in Texas, for one). They could have kept the prices within reach of common folks (there's a reason I've only gone twice in the last quarter century, and I don't plan on going again anytime soon), and the lines might be a lot shorter.
The lines I could handle. The prices are too steep. The politics was the last straw.
But I'm glad you had a great time! Love your channel.

Never been to Disneyland, but I have been to Disney World _(Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios)._ I'm glad I had the experience before the prices became prohibitive and the parking was still free _(now it is $30 to park)._ Somehow I think if old Walt was here, he would be telling everyone to save money and go to Universal Studios.
I glad you finally got to go to Disney-somewhere, and I am glad ED was with you so you didn't have to go alone. Somehow she always seems to be right at your side.
Now on to Euro Disney, Paris.

Every decent amusement park in the country has parking of $30 to $45...all 16 Six Flags Parks, 11 Cedar fair parks, Hershey Park. 2 Busch Garden parks, 3 Sea World Parks, etc...

Yep, that's about it. I rode Space Mountain at Disney World for the first time in 1977. Over the years I've been to most of the major parks like this in the US. I'm glad to be at a stage in life where I will never need to go to another one. I guess I liked Universal Studios best and of the Disney creations the Epcot Center was best. All of them ridiculously expensive and too crowded for my taste.

I like to say DisneyWORLD is Walt Disney's dream (or at least it was until about the year 2000), and DisneyLAND is his lessons learned.

Lesson #1: When it doesn't look like there's a line/queue, that means you can't see it, and yes of course it's long.
Went to Disney World a couple of times with my parents long ago, so I have no perspective on costs besides absurdly expensive even then, but we did have coupon books for the rides. I guess that's not a thing anymore. But honestly, the rides look like the same kinds of rides I saw then, tho obvi the tech's better. imo, tho, Space Mountain is absolutely the best coaster ever. And here's my amusement park based rule of body weight: you're not fat unless you can't fit into an amusement park ride seat.

One thing I don't know if anyone told you but you could have gone to any shop on Main Street and asked for a button that you pin on that says First Visit. The cast member will also write your name one it. The best thing about it is this souvenir pin is FREE! I think ED would have appreciated that.

Dia dhuit Celtic Princess. Also Lord Chewey, royal companion. My family went once, we were NOT thrilled. My kids 💕 loved Knotts Berry Farm more. My youngest is 29. 😮. I feel so old.
Originally, they had real "mermaids", they were replaced around 1975. Space Mountain was the best when we went.
You didn't stay long enough to see Tinkerbell fly?????

The difference is if you see the plaza it’s the gates that’s Disney land, the coaster is California adventure. Just ask the staff and they will direct you. Orlando is different as there are signs everywhere and most are accurate. Orlando is made of magic kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood studios, and animal kingdom. Disney in Anaheim is just Disneyland magic kingdom and California adventure. Paris has Disneyland Paris which is just magic kingdom and a form of Hollywood studios. Tokyo which actually is in Chiba prefecture just off Tokyo has Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea. Shanghai and Hong Kong just have a magic kingdom type park. We know that Disney plans another built from scratch park but they don’t have a location yet though Europe and Asia are prime candidates. America in the Midwest somewhere is also being considered.
