As the years have gone by, I love and appreciate it more. The XH2s produces a beautiful image. For stills, it's also amazing. Thanks for providing such informative and useful videos man!
I've been using Fujifilm since 2019. Picked up the X-T5 recently. While not a video-first camera, it is still very capable, especially for casual vlogs and personal work.
I really appreciate the first point you made to being about Fujifilm bringing about some cohesion across their range of products. For example, it's come to my attention that the latest firmware, how the GFX and XH2S handle Face/Eye detection is quite different. One guy demonstrated that with a certain native G mount lens, when using Zone AF, the face and eye would not be picked up outside the AF box (handy when you want to be selective over who is selected in frame). However, with a different G Mount lens the camera seemed to ignore this completely and it would pick up faces and eyes anywhere in the frame regardless of AF zone box placement (basically buggy). Furthermore, on the XH2S we have never had control to selecting faces via Zone AF boxes on any of the f/w's, this is very odd considering the XH2S supposedly the flagship AF camera. On 7.1 (XH2S), the only AF mode that gives some control to whose face/eye you want it to pick up is in Wide/Tracking mode, however they have nerfed that process (5.03 was better) and now you have to be VERY specific on moving that AF box RIGHT OVER a face or eye for it to give a prompt vs in the past to just having to overlay the AF box in general over the person (same deal with animals, I have to move the AF box over my cats head/eye for it to kick in vs just getting the AF box onto the body). Argh Fuji!..
You absolutely can map the start/stop record function to that front left button already! That's how I've had mine mapped for years because it's so much easier to reach that when filming. I think they have it named "Rec Movie Release" in the Fn assign menu. Not 100% sure on that, but I remember it being a little less obvious of a name lol

i've been using my xt3 for a long time, and lately i've been digging deeper into filmmaking and i want to invest in cinema camera for the long term, still hesitating between the pyxis and the xh2s for my biggest personal project which a feature film
Super helpful video. I’m about to purchase my first mirrorless camera which I will primarily use for video, and I’ve decided on the Fujifilm X-T50. What are your thoughts on that camera?
@ I’ll mostly be shooting content for my personal film projects, TH-cam, and social platforms. Eventually I’d like to use it for some client work. At this point I don’t think having a micro HDMI will bother me. What are the cons of not having a full size HDMI?
@@JLJ2 well micro HDMI is a weaker port. Easy to break. I own the xs20. I set the temperature limit to high and I can record for over an hour without any issue and that’s in 4K or 6.2 K open gate
I have the GFX100ii and man.. it's been the biggest love / hate camera relationship i've ever had. 75% of what I wanted to do with this camera I had to realize the hard way that it's not possible. Not possible as a hardware limitation, but because of the camera firmware and the way fuji's software team decided to handle certain situations. I think the most frustrating is the terrible output options to atomos and blackmagic recorders. I have spent a small fortune trying to rig this camera out to work for the way I want to shoot, and i'm still not there yet. You mentioned that you use the 4k DCI 17:9 mode the most. How do you feel about the binned image?
Yeah I had the same realization with the braw recording for the XH2s. It wasn't worth it. Thank God I rented it out first before spending money on it. I just learn into the strengths of my fujifilm cameras, I eternal pro res. What other things were you trying to achieve that didn't work out? And what do you mean by binned image?
@@CineDailies The 4k image is pixel binned. It's essentially an averaging of nearby pixels into larger "pixels". The cine 5.8k 2.35:1 doesn't implement the pixel binning. You can find people discussing it if you google around. My main struggles are in the way the output video signals over HDMI for external monitors. I had wanted to output anamorphic to the blackmagic video assist and record it in BRAW. No dice. For that matter any kind of external recording of anamorphic is a joke. Best to just preview on a monitor and record in camera or directly to a drive via USB. Even previewing anamorphic on an external display is a mine field. The squeeze / desqueeze options in camera are broken for HDMI output, and the video signal is 16:9 with black bars on either the top and bottom or left and right depending on your internal camera mode. From my experience, the camera has a lot of potential, but currently there's a lot of caveats and gotchas that aren't obvious or even intuitively predictable before getting hands-on with the camera.
@ ah yes, honestly I never pay attention to that. whether it be downsampling or pixel, bending, it’s such a small thing that I worry about. But I do agree with you about the hdmi output. Its lackluster to say the least. Like I mentioned in several videos. Its not fully there and fujifilm needs to address it. whether it be external recording to monitor or just external monitoring. Lumix and black magic does this well. my only solution around any of this is like you mentioned using a proper external monitor like a smallHD and I just do everything from there. But I do plan on making another video is fujifilm doesn't address this this year. Personally, ithink fujifilm needs to go back and address the basics when it some to video workflow. There is already a blue print from the other companies. That's way they don't have to reinvent the wheel ha
@@CineDailies we're in total agreement regarding Fujifilm needing to address the basics. I'm stoked about the eterna, but after my experience with the 100ii, i'm a bit hesitant. I'll definitely rent before purchasing. Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited about the sensor and Fuji's color... and I LOVE the way the nisi athena's, the old mamiya m645, and the blazar catos are looking on the gfx100ii. These 3 lens families combined with the sensor and Fuji's color look amazing straight out of the camera.
i occassionally leave my field monitor at home when I want to switch between gimbal and handheld. I prefere manual lenses over AF glass but fujis focus peaking is so weak in flog and flog2 because it‘s looking for contrast based on the flat log image. super annoying, it makes focus pulling so hard without a monitor.
lol but it has everything the Fuji Film camera has and all the flaws you mentioned are in the S5iiX🤣 if you come to NAB this year I’ll try to convince you lol
@ its not a matter of convincing me man Ha. I know you mean well but you missed the point I was making. I like fujifilm, what I mentioned doesn't limit what I can do with it. I'm not in search of the perfect camera, rather the camera I like and enjoy using.
@@ExocageMetamorphosis I have to look, but I think it’s just a default settings for the compression rate. I don’t change it literally anything other than going to 264 and 4K my timeline is 4K and so yeah that’s what I go off of. Maybe I should look more into it. Lol
When I click record in manual mode on my xh2s, my exposure shifts by itself often over exposing the image. Does anyone know which settings would allow me to control the image manually. Would be a life saver if anyone had any advice
That's weird. You sure its not in an auto mode? Does the exposure differ from the camera and in the edit or you just see the change from the camera screen? Just put the camera in M. Watch my fujifilm beginner videos.
Flog 2 c isn’t muddy. I remember you talked about how in comparison to other camera footage, flog 2 muddy colors together. Flog 2 c takes care of that.
sometimes it's important to admit once that you made a mistake in choosing a system)) Now on the video market almost all cameras are better / affordable / more convenient than Fuji Got first x2hs , then xs20 and after a few months of using switch to Lumix s5IIx . Still using xs20 for photo though , love Fuji Raw
I just wish they would fix the "stepping" thing Fujifilm cameras do with zoom lenses. I was shooting in controlled lighting at f4.5 and it still "stepped" throughout the zoom as if changing aperture 😑.
@CineDailies I'll have to go look. Between my XC 15-45 and my old manual lens, an Auto Sears MC 35-70mm, It's always shifts like it's changing aperture.
When I first started watching your videos I was convinced Fuji was the way after all my research everything I unfortunately am leaving Fuji sent my camera to mob the other day for me Sony just makes more sense
I really don’t understand this need for ‘open gate’ - what lenses that don’t cost a kidney will cover the full height of the sensor? Not only that, people didn’t want open gate for the sake of it, they wanted 3:2 or 4:3 aspect ratios. This cam has both (and more) so kinda makes me think anyone complaining about no open gate just wants pixels for pixels sake Also to add another common ‘complaint’ I’ve seen about - pixel binning for the 4K - use your eyes. Whatever Fuji are doing to get down to 4K from 100mp is damm impressive and this shouldn’t even be thought point of contention.
With open gate you don’t Sacrifice pixels or having to refrain for vertical and horizontal most of the time. This is extremely useful in the commercial space. if that wasn’t clear. But I like said…there is no open gate this the gf mode only in 35mm (full frame) and yes there lenses that cover this sensor. Any medium format lens overs this sensor (mamiya 645, Pentax etc) and those are relatively affordable. But you said it yourself 3:2 or 4:3 is the full height and width of a sensor lol. The Sony FX three is a 3 x 2 sensor relative to full frame but you can only record and 16 x 9 or 17 x 9 of that sensor. And I would agree I don’t really care if there’s pixel bending or downsampling what fujifilm is doing is really good and I don’t notice the difference
I really really reaaaaaally wish that Camera Foundry would offer their STL Files for sale... I want to print in my own high quality materials... + I want to avoid high shipping and import fees into EU
I just got my GFX 100 II last month and filmed a little test in France. You covered it here but I think the biggest draw is just the lens options. Even with native glass - the GF 55 1.7 is a ridiculous lens and obviously it will only work with GFX cameras. But add in PL full frame lenses, anamorphic options... there's so much you can attach to this camera. The biggest downside is really the sensor. 100 megapixels is amazing for photos (the GFX 100 II is a much better photo camera than video camera, IMO) - but for video it's frustrating. To get the 15ms rolling shutter you need to use the pixel binned 4K mode with dynamic range priority off. So you end up with an image with less dynamic range and more rolling shutter than the X-H2S... not to mention you only get 4K, not 6K, aaaaand you don't get open gate. So the thing that makes it a great photo camera (100 megapixels) really works against it for video. That said, the image is good and the body itself feels really nice. F-Log2 C is also really good. And the 55 1.7 is ridiculous. I do hope that even with their current cameras they add some basic things like shutter angle, more exposure tools, etc. And then for the Eterna I really, really hope they improve dynamic range, rolling shutter, and frame rate options from the GFX 100 II.
I literally just watch your video - looked beautiful! I should have gotten the 55mm - it has that separation I want. I only have the 45mm f2.8 its okay. But yes the lens options go crazy with this setup! Yes I do agree fujifilm could have done more with the sensor, I'm not mad at with it can currently do. It still have a bunch of options. Plus open gate for 35mm is available. I hope the gfx eterna doesn't hold back tho. That would be a shame. But thanks for your input brotha! Keep up the good work
@@xutsider the GFX is a large format camera. Within this sensor, there is a full frame “crop”. Which is a 1:1 full frame coverage like a fx3, lumix s5iix, etc

Super helpful video. I’m about to purchase my first mirrorless camera which I will primarily use for video, and I’ve decided on the Fujifilm X-T50. What are your thoughts on that camera?
Thanks for watching! I haven't used the x-t50 before, but what kind of video content are you making? Does not having a full size hdmi matter to you?
@ I’ll mostly be shooting content for my personal film projects, TH-cam, and social platforms. Eventually I’d like to use it for some client work. At this point I don’t think having a micro HDMI will bother me. What are the cons of not having a full size HDMI?
I thought about buying the XS20, but I kept hearing it has overheating issues.
@@JLJ2 well micro HDMI is a weaker port. Easy to break. I own the xs20. I set the temperature limit to high and I can record for over an hour without any issue and that’s in 4K or 6.2 K open gate
@@CineDailiesThank you!
looks clean!
thanks brotha!
Do you know if using the 100 ii with the Atomos V Ultra removes the 8k crop when shooting pro res raw?
I have no idea. I don't use atomos products
i occassionally leave my field monitor at home when I want to switch between gimbal and handheld. I prefere manual lenses over AF glass but fujis focus peaking is so weak in flog and flog2 because it‘s looking for contrast based on the flat log image. super annoying, it makes focus pulling so hard without a monitor.
Sounds like you might like the S5iiX😉
I'm good 😬
lol but it has everything the Fuji Film camera has and all the flaws you mentioned are in the S5iiX🤣 if you come to NAB this year I’ll try to convince you lol
@ its not a matter of convincing me man Ha. I know you mean well but you missed the point I was making. I like fujifilm, what I mentioned doesn't limit what I can do with it. I'm not in search of the perfect camera, rather the camera I like and enjoy using.
@@CineDailies ha yeah I get that!
Hey man! Can you please share your export settings that you used for this video? Looks great!
Just good ol h.265 in 4k ha
@CineDailies Thank you for the reply. What bitrate did you export? I just can't get good quality videos, youtube compresses them to much...
I haven’t test yet but that’s promising!
Bro we need Shutter Angle in the GFX II
Yeah it’s a big miss!
Love fujifilm. But just couldn’t love the horrendous menu system. If they just change it
Haha at least its not sony menus, way worst
Top heartbreak Bro😍😍
Heartbreak? Lol
@@CineDailies Beautiful exciting clips Bro😍
Commenting for the algo!
bless you
🖤
sometimes it's important to admit once that you made a mistake in choosing a system))
Now on the video market almost all cameras are better / affordable / more convenient than Fuji
Got first x2hs , then xs20 and after a few months of using switch to Lumix s5IIx . Still using xs20 for photo though , love Fuji Raw
No mistake has been made lol this camera make me money, rather I use this camere to make money. So your point is?
I just wish they would fix the "stepping" thing Fujifilm cameras do with zoom lenses. I was shooting in controlled lighting at f4.5 and it still "stepped" throughout the zoom as if changing aperture 😑.
I thought they fixed that? When was the last time you updated your lens?
@CineDailies I'll have to go look. Between my XC 15-45 and my old manual lens, an Auto Sears MC 35-70mm, It's always shifts like it's changing aperture.
GFX just doesn’t miss 😮💨
lets do a GFX video together. I'll text you later
@@CineDailies Word? Dude I'm game, hit me.
When I first started watching your videos I was convinced Fuji was the way after all my research everything I unfortunately am leaving Fuji sent my camera to mob the other day for me Sony just makes more sense
It's all about what works for you!
I really don’t understand this need for ‘open gate’ - what lenses that don’t cost a kidney will cover the full height of the sensor? Not only that, people didn’t want open gate for the sake of it, they wanted 3:2 or 4:3 aspect ratios. This cam has both (and more) so kinda makes me think anyone complaining about no open gate just wants pixels for pixels sake
Also to add another common ‘complaint’ I’ve seen about - pixel binning for the 4K - use your eyes.
+ I want to avoid high shipping and import fees into EU
send him an email
@@CineDailies I did - unfortunately they do not sell their STLs.
Guess I have to develop my own product and become a competitor in EU.. oh boy.
👏
Keep up the good work
@@CineDailies thanks man! I'm hoping they knock it out of the park with the Eterna. I'd love to get rid of my FX3/6 and use Fuji for work
Have they got full frame cameras yet
The GFX system is their full-frame camera and large format camera. Only the GFX 100 ii can film in 35mm (full frame) for video.
@CineDailies I thought the gfx was called medium format or something
@@xutsider the GFX is a large format camera. Within this sensor, there is a full frame “crop”. Which is a 1:1 full frame coverage like a fx3, lumix s5iix, etc
@@CineDailies sooo what kinda lenses do you buy for it / that fit it apart from the ones made by Fujifilm
@@xutsider it all depends what you wanna achieve so for me I’m collecting 645 lenses to adapt too much effects, but I also have a handful of full frame lenses and Vista vision cinema lenses like the Dzofilm arles, nisi athenas and any other lenses that cover the sensor that are PL
No camera on earth is a point and shoot 'cinema camera.' You still need to expose properly and modify location lighting as needed.
Huh?
Damn Joshua, even the AI French voice can't pronounce ARLES correctly 🤣😅
