The greatest thing about the S&M is famous director Francis Ford Coppola is a SF Symphony season ticket holder, and he came to the event, apparently not understanding the collaboration between the Symphony and Metallica. James said that he was disappointed and walked out! 🤣 I saw it in an interview. Not sure if it's saved on TH-cam but it might be in print online. Maybe it's in the S&M video.

As much as I love the first 4 albums and criticized them a bit for "selling out" with the Black Album, I do enjoy a lot of their later music for what it is and still get crap from a lot of friends who insist that "Load" and "Reload" and pretty much everything after that are blasphemous abominations that should not exist. Back in the 90's when "Load" came out and people were giving it a lot of crap I used to ask them what they would say about the album if it was a new band instead of Metallica and most people thought about it a bit and said that if a new unknown band had released it as their first album they would think it was a really good record. So yeah, sometimes we limit ourselves a lot for no reason, like you say, just because we tend to assume change is a bad thing. Hell, I know I was sick and tired of "Enter Sandman" and "The Unforgiven" and all those song as as listener back then, so I can only imagine how the guys in Metallica felt about the prospect of having to play them forever and only be allowed to write songs similar to them for the rest of their lives. St. Anger still sucks, though! :D

The first and second verses give me the absolute chills. Great imagery with describing a wasted, regretful life with that of basically a pirate. That and the fact that drowning scares the hell outta me made this one a bit more personal. Crazy that a few years after this song was released, something happened that caused a LOT of problems, and I told someone that the lyrics to this song really show how I felt before the "something" and how I felt at that moment (after the fact.) Now some years later, I could easily say to someone, "If you wanna understand, listen to The Unforgiven 3 and then we can talk." ~Be Blessed.

Yo just want to point out something. The thing that Unforgiven 1 and 3 have in common is that the song is very metal but the main part (refrain) are both very chill, while Unforgiven 2 is a chill song with a heavy main part. Very cool how they structured it. 12:19 exactly, I'm happy you reacted to lyric videos first. The Music Videos can really throw someone off although they have something in common with the lyrics of the song but its very hard to understand so its good the way you did it. Awesome that you instantly got back to react to the rest when finding out that Unforgiven is a trilogy. Shows you care about your fans but not only that, you actually care about the music and you want to find new stuff and get more information. Amazing, Great Reaction. Would be cool if you react to *_Highlander (The One)_* by Lost Horizon, Incredible Power Metal song.

What really gets me in this song is right before the guitar solo. "Forgive me. Forgive me. Why can't I forgive me?" The emotion he puts on those lyrics with that sick solo just pulls at you.

I basically posted this in the #2 video but I’ll repost.
To me, this is the trilogy:
1- I’m struggling to forgive them. Most angry.
2- I’m struggling to forgive you. Angry but reflective.
3- I’m struggling to forgive myself. Perhaps the most somber and reflective. Loneliness. Self-loathing.

Great reaction Jamal! You never disappoint. You have probably the highest musical acumen of all the reaction channels. That solo from Kirk Hammett was so powerful and beautiful like he was just trying to comfort the character in the song who's voice was given by James Hetfield and was like arms wrapping around the character who's spirit was completely broken. Just amazing and incredible.

For some reason this "3" chapter hits me harder then previous 2 and its really amazing when a sequel equals the origins and even tops them. This is a brilliant, creative, full of inner strength, rage and vulnerability song and its so mature and still young in its energy. I love this song and i look at it as masterpiece in every aspect it carries.

I always enjoy watching the reactions of people who listen to this music that I grew up with. And it's true, a lot of people who hear the term "metal" as it pertains to music, have that reaction that it's just screaming and a whole lot of noise. But when I watch these reactions, when people realize that the lyrics have a profound meaning, it always puts a smile on my face. And, as others have said, the music you grew up with is indicative of your surroundings. I USED to listen to hip hop, techno, and those kinds of music. But when a friend of mine introduced me to my first real experience of metal (it was Guns and Roses, but it still counts!), and told me to actually LISTEN to the lyrics, that changed my musical life. And fortunately so, otherwise I might have NEVER listened to bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Megadeth, and many more.
Anyways, enough ramblings. Excellent reaction, Jamel! And welcome to the metal family! Better late than never! ;-)

Not enough people spend time listening to Metallica and looking at the lyrics. See what they're singing about in each song they have written over the years. James is a great writer. I know Lars occasionally writes a song too. There is so much great emotion and feeling and meaning in their songs.

100% agree with your ranking of the trilogy.
I - That was awesome! Such a great song!
II - What a great sequel, like most sequels it feeds off the original and builds off it, but all in all the first is superior.
III - What the heck did I just listen to!? My tiny mind has just been blown by this epic magnum opus! Man I loved the first two but this took it to a much higher level.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but when I first heard this song back in 2008, it became immediately my all time favourite Metallica song, easily beating out "One" and "Master of Puppets" for the top spot, which up until that time had been sparring constantly. They still are sparring, but now for second place.

It's not about being mad about yourself - it IS like you said Jamel about starting with forgiving yourself before being able to forgive others.
Self reflection can be very painful and without a support structure quite self destructive - there are options to be listened to without judgement that can provide recourse and reference to professional help should it be required.
Again self reflection is helpful but it can be a very painful journey with or without a support group. It's rarely a journey that can be done solo. Ask your close ones, or local/national support groups.
This trilogy is biographical and hopefully cathartic for the author & performer.
