- Did you know that you can deposit cash at an ATM so that you can spend it with your debit card? I'll show you the step-by-step process to deposit cash at an ATM. I'll demonstrate with a Chase Bank ATM, but the same process works with other major banks, such as Bank or America and Wells Fargo.

I did know that it was possible to deposit cash in an atm, but never trusted the machine. I was afraid the cash would show correctly on the atm, but not get posted to my account. This video was really helpful because I really prefer to go to the bank when there are no other cars. Thanks for posting this! 💜
Glad I could help! It's nice that modern machines will tell you exactly how much it's depositing so you can double check that it's right. In the old days, you used an envelope and it got counted later, which felt riskier.

Ive never deposited cash into an ATM before. This video was the first one recommended when searching How To, as my work hours are the same as bank hours and I didnt feel like running to the bank on my lunch time. I was always skeptical that it wouldnt count it right or something would go wrong because thats my luck lol But this video is very helpful and made me feel more comfortable with the process

In NYC Chase has an atm in Mt. Sinai hospital that has a deep compartment that ISN'T A SLOT. It grabs the money and then you receive a receipt reading no information!

In all this time, I have never actually done this. I just realized today that would be a lot less of a pain than going through the drive in line. Thanks for the explanation. Will it go on your bank immediately if it is late at night or only during banking hours?
I believe it's usually available immediately even if it is night because the machine is verifying it. It probably varies by bank though.

@@SmartFamilyMoney Well I did the bank deposit today. For some reason the machine said there was an error. They kept the money , but gave me back my ATM card and the receipt saying the money should be deposited on the next business day, but an error occurred.
I finally did the deposit at the ATM and there was a problem. The ATM took the money, but gave me a receipt saying something went wrong with the deposit. I went to the bank the next day and they corrected the problem.

Maybe the one I visited was broken but the cash drawer where it's supposed to go in wasn't labeled and didn't open up or light up or anything...am I supposed to open it myself at some banks?? It didn't pop open. So weird. And frustrating😅

When it's available will depend on the bank, but it seems like most of them make it available immediately.

There's not much you can do about it then. You can just spend your cash instead of depositing it. Or you would need to deposit it in another bank account and transfer it. If you have a family member you trust, you could have them deposit it and send it to you.
Does it have to be a card connected to that bank or can I use any card and deposit cash on to it?
For deposits, generally the card has to be connected to the bank that owns the ATM.

No, you can't put money into cash app from an ATM. You can only withdraw with an ATM.
Have there ever been issues of cash getting lost or not counted properly? I guess I just have anxiety about doing this. I just wonder how safe it is.
No, no issues. The modern ATMs will count it and tell you how much is being deposited and you can double check it before confirming the transaction. You can say no and it'll give you the cash back if it's wrong. So as long as you know how much it is and it matches, there's not really anything that can go wrong.

So I tried it for the first time 2 days ago. And I fed The bills into the machine one bill at a time not realizing that I could put them all in there at the same time. The last bill that I attempted to deposit got rejected. It was $100 bill very old $100 bill which to the touch felt thinner than the other bills. I'm going to walk into my bank this weekend to deposit it lol.

That's going to depend on your bank's policies. I believe with Chase bank it's literally instant, even when it's not business hours.

There are some ATMs that are for withdrawals only. I would try another ATM, especially one attached to a branch of your bank (like a physical bank location).
Atm should have a deposit word on it, if not its just for widrawal

It has to be the ATM that belongs to your bank yes yes, I think almost of all them do it.
What if your cash count disagrees with the ATM cash count?
When you're doing the deposit, it'll show you what the machine is counting. If you disagree, you can cancel and get the cash back. If that happens, I would suggest going inside the bank to deposit. I've never had an issue though.

Can you deposit money to your visa card at any bank at all??
No, for deposits, generally you're only able to make deposits into the ATMs of the bank that owns your account. So, you'd use a Chase ATM to deposit to a Chase Bank account. Also, you generally can't use an ATM to deposit onto a credit card, if that's what you mean by Visa card.

Sometimes, yes. If you're at your own bank's ATM and the ATM uses contactless cards, then you can use Apple Pay or Google Pay instead of the card, but you'd have to have your bank debit card connected to your phone. I know this works at Chase and Bank of America.

Yes, generally deposits have to be at ATMs that are the same brand as your bank account. Like a Chase ATM if you have a Chase account.

Yes, it'll take any denomination.
I knew I can do it, But as someone who deposit a good amount. My biggest fear is the ATM malfunctioning and eating my cash. I rather have a human do it and skip the possible issues.
