Excellent videos and channel! I love the fact that you do your own work and demonstrate that it is possible for a car owner to repair even high end, high performance vehicles. I one day aspire to also purchase a 430 and this helps me to understand the challenges of performing maintenance. I have done almost all of the work on my own vehicles my entire life and your videos help me to assess options for doing the same should I be fortunate enough to purchase a 430 in the future. Keep up the great work!
Great job man!! By the time I get mine(2020 maybe sooner) I'm gonna have a whole library of how to's from you! You were like a surgeon on that thing👍🏻👍🏻
Not sure, but I think you just need to undo the bolts that fasten the shaft to the diff then remove the axle nut on the hub and pull the shaft out. No need for the complete removal of the hub assembly.
You have beer while doing your DIY mechanics. I'm betting Franny has a glass of wine on the go just outside of camera frame when she's doing her projects.Franny?
Good Job! Like you said, it surprisingly didn't look like too bad of a job. Some cars have a center bearing that the CV shafts sits in and those are a pain because they usually have to be pressed in or out. For a Ferrari, the 430 definitely looks like a good car to work on. As for that exhaust section by the boot, did you find out if there is a similar oem heat shield like on the other side? I am concerned that even with the wrap, that you still may have too much heat that could breakdown the new boot and grease. Last, did you buy the service manual when you bought the car, cuz damn you are really getting things done in that sweat box of a garage!
Still have the other boot? I noticed while under my car that the outer boot appears to be leaking on driver's side. Weird... car has only 4,000 miles but it hasn't been driven in almost 10 years. Only other thing that could be leaking in that area would be the brake caliper but I see no sign of that and fluid level is fine. Hoping the outer boot is as easy as the inner!
Daniel Hurlbert cool. The heat wrap you put on will be ok until the part comes anyway. I don’t have a Ferrari but the updated exhaust on my rally car is a nightmare for melting stuff, can glow red when on max boost. I bet yours are not far off that. Thanks for uploading, excellent stuff
This is the third video in a row that I found in my videos I might like or whatever it's called for some reason it didn't come up in my subscription list at all
Was the other boot for the other end of the shaft? If yes why did you not replace it while the shaft was disassembled? Anyway, great video and as always, thanks for sharing.
i have an issue with my 458 with rear right cv boot and am not sure if I can the part or the whole kit! would you recommend a website selling 458 CV boots parts?
Would you say it's a two bucket job for those two brake calipers? Also your Michelins looking close to replacement depth, how much do they cost you, and how many miles? Cheers
What prevents you from just taking the axel nut off and slide the drive shaft out? Taking everything off the hub and taking it out a unit sounds like the hard way. Did you not have a replacement axel nut?
Be aware of dirt getting in in the sliding bolt and that it will get stuck at a moment. Than your parking brake pads will rub against the disk and the parking brake pads and disk will wear quicker.
That is amazing. How do you know how to do all the mechanical work if your main profession is a Developer / Programmer ? Were you a mechanic in a previous life or just learn everything along the way googling and youtubing ?!
@12:24 who works on their Ferrari like this? This guy!..... Man you are fucking awesome working on your car! Do you ever run into other Ferrari guys at meets or anything and if so, do any of them even know how to take lugnuts off?
Amazing that it is easier to replace a boot on a Ferrari than a japanese car. Seriously, check it out, japanese car needs heavy hammering to get things moving
Did you buy new or used? Damm my CV boot/joint was 48 bucks from Ford but its a Ferrari.....I think my BMW CV was higher .....Im shocked that it looks almost as easy as changing one on the stang's....I would guessed it would be an all day event for a high performance car like yours
Nothing like working on your own shit an saving money to spend it other things. If I may share a quick point. I've noticed in some of your videos how you handle the breaker bar and torque wrench, when you apply pressure you should always use your own body weight to loosen and tighten what ever it is your working on. So, If your loosening something the bar should be at the 9'oclock position so you lean your body down and when your tightening, the wrench should be at the 3 o'clock position. Just my 2 cents, what ever you do, keep the videos coming!!. Thanks
Actually it's a strong design, and removing an outside cover is much better than the spring clips on our cheaper units. You should never remove the balls, they've individually worn in, and the power you're pushing through will take advantage of any differential wear, I would clean it in a degreasing bath and dry it with compressed air before pumping grease through the bearing.
Ferrari's have CV boots? Come off it that's just plain common, my Fiat Panda has CV boots. Surely Ferrari have a fancier system than that, I'm sorry mate your car must be counterfeit, I would expect some sort of super silicon sealed for life joint. Ordinary grease, no no no NO. It's not even gold plated.
What are you talking about? His car is Italian not German. If it were a Mercedes or something it would have some sort of hydraulically actuated coupling with vacuum lines running to and from it that are all prone to failure. With Ferrari I am sure it is just a case of it being designer grease or something.
Nick Carter and why you should expect to be more complicated? Its still a Car and has the same principles as your fiat panda. There no need to re invent the wheel.
A clean shaft and balls are always nice!
JediSoulfly 😂😂😂😂😂😂

+James Weimer hey thanks! I appreciate the positive feedback. 😎
did you check the other side CV boot?
Great job man!! By the time I get mine(2020 maybe sooner) I'm gonna have a whole library of how to's from you! You were like a surgeon on that thing👍🏻👍🏻

Gotch ya!! ... :-) Good move then!! (I should never have doubted you...LOL)
Still lovin these vids Dan! Learned so much from you.
Thanks
You happen to know what that part number was for the kit? During my manual swap in the CS, I just noticed that my drivers side is swollen. Dang it.
Not off the top of my head.
You have beer while doing your DIY mechanics. I'm betting Franny has a glass of wine on the go just outside of camera frame when she's doing her projects.Franny?
great DIY video Dan!
nice to see you driving and working on your own ferrari

What size socket did you use to take off the bolts from the axle to the differential?

I do still have it actually.
Hey Dan, could you not have just undone the driveshaft nut on the hub and pushed the shaft out without removing the entire hub?
Was there no new heat shield to go on or does it not have one that side in the end?
Nice job anyway, glad it all worked out for both motors
Daniel Hurlbert cool. The heat wrap you put on will be ok until the part comes anyway. I don’t have a Ferrari but the updated exhaust on my rally car is a nightmare for melting stuff, can glow red when on max boost. I bet yours are not far off that. Thanks for uploading, excellent stuff
@@davecook3840 mercedes have cv joints. You're just salty apparently.
Love to watch the DIY repairs.
That seemed like a REALLY good deal for a CV joint. Especially for a Ferrari!
Correction. A CV boot not the joint. Nevermind. 😁

Ricambi America. Use the code NGS10 and they'll give you 10 percent off. www.ricambiamerica.com/
Would you say it's a two bucket job for those two brake calipers? Also your Michelins looking close to replacement depth, how much do they cost you, and how many miles? Cheers
11.5 is indeed pretty good for what you put them through. Looking at the wear on them you don't drift it too much 😛
Do you think the boot failed because of the heat from exhaust?
Good job. How did you learn how to fix your car?
What prevents you from just taking the axel nut off and slide the drive shaft out? Taking everything off the hub and taking it out a unit sounds like the hard way. Did you not have a replacement axel nut?
That's a bitch too, it's just a shit job to have to do...
Nice fix Dan!
Love your channel I feel like buying a used Ferrari to fix myself you inspire me keep up the great work : )
I highly recommend this plan
Did you do both inner and outer?
Is one of the parking brake caliper boots also cracked? Please see the video at 4:19.
Be aware of dirt getting in in the sliding bolt and that it will get stuck at a moment. Than your parking brake pads will rub against the disk and the parking brake pads and disk will wear quicker.
Doing mine now. Thanks!
You bet
Like a Boss, again!!! Good work bloke
Top video Dan 👍
Hi:)do you need to take all the engine out when changing the clutch f430???
No just the transmission
Wow so the Ferrari f430 is better Even cheaper when changing a clutch then gallardo lp560.👍
Where do you get all your Ferrari service info for DIY?
I have a copy of the service manual. That and the internet.
Really great video, you have outdone yourself!!! Heat shield o order...
How long did those pads and rotors last you?
I never had to change them
Hi Dan greetings from new Zealand it would be interesting to add up how much u think u might have saved by doing the work yourself ..bloody legend bro
Daniel Hurlbert thats true mate a rough estimate would still interesting eh? Cheers dan
Where did you get those chisels from? Kinda cool looking 😂
Owning a Ferrari is like owning a swimming pool.
Interesting analogy.
That is amazing. How do you know how to do all the mechanical work if your main profession is a Developer / Programmer ? Were you a mechanic in a previous life or just learn everything along the way googling and youtubing ?!
Thats incredible Daniel. Im too scared and too lazy to work on my car Lol
@12:24 who works on their Ferrari like this? This guy!..... Man you are fucking awesome working on your car! Do you ever run into other Ferrari guys at meets or anything and if so, do any of them even know how to take lugnuts off?
Yeah, there's actually quite a few willing to work on their own cars... But it's still only like 5%, 10% tops.
Hehehe he said balls. Awesome video Dan!
Give us a tour of your shop/garage thx!
There's not much to it... It's pretty small
Ferrari must really hate this guy. Me on the other hand i admire him, he knows something about wrenching and not afraid to work on his ferrari.
Thanks!
It’s always awkward explaining CV joints and repairs.. its basically talking about balls, shafts and lube.
LOL! So very true. You can't help but giggle.
Nice shaft job Dan.. LOL
Nice job!
Boys got skillz!
Amazing that it is easier to replace a boot on a Ferrari than a japanese car. Seriously, check it out, japanese car needs heavy hammering to get things moving
The thing I always tell people is remember, Ferraris are designed to be race cars so parts are meant to be swapped out easily and quickly.

Great Job..
how do you know how to do this ?
* generally working on your Ferrari -
Well, I have been working on cars here and there since turning 16. The Ferrari is just another car...
Well it's been longer than 10 mins.... how's the exhaust valves holding up 😂😂😂!!!
Good video 👍👍👍

Good job..
Thanks
Man.. where did you develop your mechanic skills? that was "easy"!!
I wouldn't say I have much skill in that department...
Normal Guy Supercar no skills?? So who can work in a Ferrari like you do
I like the fact thatis fixing a ferrari with a glass of wine and later a beer!! 🍷🍺
YES! Both sides of life.
👍
Nice...
Thanks
Good choice in car! Bad choice in beer!
Aww. I like my cheap beer.

Can you tell the viewers how much this DIY saved you compared to the dealers price?

Ferrari grade bucket by holmes depot
Real DIY video for F430 owners :D But without wine this time :/
how many problems does your car have lol should've gotten a gtr or amg gts or corvette z06
Why? Those are just a likely to have issues when they get tracked a lot too.
Dude did you not listen to rob ? Never work on your ferrari just take it to a "professional" at a ferrari dealer
I'm sure he saved alot of money doing it himself
Daniel Hurlbert when will you learn daniel
Jason no way!!! Omg i did not know that dang
Why take it to the dealer?? Just take off the ROLEX before starting and Spot treat the stains on the Armani T-shirt afterwards.
Mike Saveahoe clueless muppet like everyone has millions to spend at a dealership, child stfu
You are constantly showing the people the shit quality of the Ferrari brand. If Ferrari cars are so easily broken why buying one???
