I'm going to say though Katie, your recipe is perfect! I've used it several times and it's unmold able within 8 hours and super hard! Love your design and results! i aspire to make soap like you. i’m 14 and i bake bath bombs, sugar scrubs, and sometimes soap. i make a cupcake soap but all it was is melting these hardened soap things and then putting it in molds and making the “frosting”. i’m def gonna show my mom this video and beg her to get me the ingredients you use lmfao
avari that's melt and pour! And to be honest if you're only making it for your own use then that's your best option, cold process like this is very technical and is better suited to manufacturing for sale. Lye water can be dangerous and you can't make this soap without gloves and eye protection and a lot of chemical reactions happen, it heats up a lot during the setting and you have to leave it to cure for a few weeks after you've sliced it. So not great of you want soap you can use quickly and make safely and easily.
Making soap is a lot of fun! Its a great hobby to get into and you'll probably love it. Brambleberry has some complete kids that come with everything you need to make the soap plus instructions, you might start there.
I just got ur soaps! A couple diamond ones, the berry delicious, and botanical soul! I love them! Also, Lily has ur eyes, so precious.

Ms. Lily is getting so big! They do grow up fast though :) as for the question.. see.. some may think the amusement park would be creepy, but I would argue that if you've ever watched Dr. Who, that library is by far the more creepy option. Plus.. the amusement park will have food :D

This is such a pretty bar , I love the colours they went perfectly together. These colours would also look good as a water melon soap.
FUN FACT ABOUT ME : I was once locked inside a LA fitness GYM when the staff decided to pack up and leave early and never waited for me to get dressed . I set off all their alarms and called my husband and the police off their phone . Because half the gym was underground it was pitch black I honestly thought it was a joke at first and the police said as I wasn't hurt and I hadn't broke in it wasn't classed as a emergency so I would have to wait 4-6 hours for a car to come out.
They made you wait 4 hours with the alarms going off? That sounds terrible.

Victoria lol they actually got there after a worker had come out to turn the alarm off which was a ear piercing alarm and he came about five hours after I set it off and he let me out then we waited for the police who questioned me and asked if I had stolen anything and checked my gym bag. I was more insulted by that then waiting so long for them to arrive. 😞
Renee S I don't know who upset me the most the workers at the gym for rushing off and locking up without telling me or doing proper checks , or the police for leaving me like it. It's not something I will ever forget.
Bonnie Nash Awww it wouldn’t have been fun at the time but it seriously does sound funny though. Could you imagine having to ring the police and say “um I just broke in and now I can’t get out” and then when they arrive in record time you would have to then tell them “no I didn’t break in but it’s the only way to get you people out here to let me out” 😂😂😂😂😂

Lovely! But I think it would have looked cute of you lay some of the 'grass shoot' gold imbeds horizontally instead of all vertical so they'd look like cute spirally swirls when you cut up the bars ❤

Uh so I'm a chemist, and I figured you'd want to know- NaOH (lye) is going to react with dissolved CO2 in your water, which will induce more CO2 to dissolve into the water which will then react with the NaOH, etc. - the end result being, if you're making your lye solution too far in advance, and especially if you're leaving it open to air, it's going to be much less strong than when it was initially made- which is going to screw with your soap recipes. You mentioned making the lye solution the day before, so I figured you might want to know about this.
The chemist way of dealing with this would be to put it in an airtight container with very little headspace, and then blow in inert gas for a bit until I was sure all the air was replaced with my gas. I might also degas my water before adding NaOH as well (by boiling). That said, if you're happy with the product you're getting and aren't noticing any serious inconsistencies in your batches based on age of lye water, well, don't fix what's not broken :-).

You and your lovely little channel inspired me to try making cold process soap! I have all my oils waiting to start, I've done my research and I just got my lye today. All I'm waiting for is my mica set from Nurture Soap to get here and I'm ready to go! I'm super excited! I think my first soap is going to be lychee and green tea scented, with a green base color, black ball embeds at the bottom to look like boba and high top soap frosting to look like whipped cream and drizzled with a pink melt and pour "syrup"!
Hi Katie, I just wanted to comment that you inspired me to actually try soap making. I've wanted to do it since 2010, but never thought I could do it since everyone else seemed to be doing it. But, I just tried my first batch and its a lot of fun to be creating something, especially if it is something that people will use! I have a question that I didn't seem to see much about in the soap books I got : How does one go about making their own recipe? I mean like the basics, I don't want to copy or step on anyone's toes, but there are so many oils, clays, butters, milks that can be added for different effects, I just can't seem to find out how it's measured or made into a recipe. Trial and error method seems like the only way but that can get pretty expensive. Thanks so much for your bright and wonderful personality and beautiful family!! I always can count on your vids to make me smile!

I’d love to see a soap some day with veggie inbeds like carrots, broccoli or beets with a drop swirl inside that mimics the veggie colors. Bonus fries if it’s vegan friendly! It would be awesome if it smelled like carrot cake or broccoli cheddar lol

Have you ever made a shave soap? I’ve made several with m&p before, using bentonite clay, but it was too drying on my skin. I’m curious to know if it would work in your recipe because it’s so rich? Or is there another way you would make a shave soap? I’ve literally been trying to perfect a recipe for a couple years now ☹️ Nothing has blown my mind, at least not for my dry skin type.

Royalty Soaps That would be amazing! I just haven’t found the “it” product(s) to give mine that really good slip + moisture. In my research, everyone suggests bentonite clay, but it just hates my skin 🤬

Her recipe (this very one) has cleansing properties as high as 21 on Soapcalc which means its gonna super dry out the skin. You can easily create a mild recipe for your shaving soap. Just make sure your cleansing property on Soapcalc doesn't exceed 13; the lower the better. The main culprits that increase dryness/cleansing properties in soap are 1. Coconut Oil 2. Babassu Oil 3. Palm Kernel Oil/Flakes. So you can play up your Castor Oil to get all the bubbles that you like. Incorporate Shea Butter, Stearic Acid, and Kaolin Clay for extra glide and cushioning. Yes Shea butter will give it that extra oomph. Allow me to refer you to Uncle Jon's TH-cam channel, t's all about the beards :). Happy soaping.

Vic Toria I sure did use coconut oil 😑 And it’s hard to lather, too. Next time I’ll play with castor oil, with the mango & Shea butter m&p. Thanks for the tip!
Okay, those little shoots on the inside remind me of bamboo and now I totally would love to see you do a Japanese garden themed soap or maybe even a koi fish themed one.
