Tairua is my home town. I live on the top of that mountain you passed at 1.55, called Mt Paku. Paku is an extinct volcano that started forming millions of years ago.
Hi guys mannn ive enjoyed watching the journey around our beautiful country❤❤❤ Wish yous got a chance to try the pizzas at Te Umu pizza i reckon yous wouldve loved it!!
wow your comment really touches our hearts honestly ❤️ basically just us being us having a good time and going of the beaten track sometimes haha :) its definitely an amazing country to live in though!
The 309 Road is a bit of an alternate lifestyler's location. The people who live there aren't your usual holiday home-owning set. On a sunny day, you'll get a different vibe there.
I wish you had of visited the Driving Creek Railway just out of Coromandel, it an interesting and informative project by one man to reclaim the Kauri in the area and build this private little railway to the top of the hills. Oh well you will have to come back some day and put that on your itinerary :). That place you found with the pigs seems a bit mad glad you moved on.
@@GlenAndMado Especially in late January when the weather is stable and the water is warm. I live about an hour away now, we can do it as a day trip without drama.
You missed the walk to the giant Kauri trees on the 309 road - they are huge! Not as big as NZ's biggest, Tane Mahuta and Te Matua Ngahere, up in Waipoua Forest in Northland, but still worth seeing!
Very familiar with all those areas having lived in Hikuai. Found it really funny someone suggested the 309 road and the pig farm, made me laugh so much when Mado said what's going on on the 306 road 😂 also Yr comments about Coromandel Town ❤ I would like to suggest visiting Kaiaua and Miranda hot pools? , cheers
someone we stayed with thought we would like the 309 road hahaha but honestly its cool to take advice from the locals at times. most people from new zealand love to give us a few recommendations! would of loving to check out the hot pools but not sure if we wll be back in that area unfortunately :(
Always listen to those feelings they are usually spot on. Beautiful scenes you showed. Those hot pools looked very hot. Watch out for wild pigs tho here in NZ they might eat ya. Hungry ones eat anything. Wild ones are scary and can run fast and can knock ya over.
The man who looks after the pigs, Stu Edmondson, is delightful. He looks after the pigs very well and he was friendly and welcoming to us when we stopped to chat with him. The place is rundown, and there are rusty old cars, but those pigs have a far happier life than most of the pigs who end up on our tables.
@@GlenAndMado Stu must be a good age now I met him few years ago his house was on the left the vehicles although rusty are his and on his private property, pigs need very little to survive water and greenery
I went every year 55 years ago I was 10.The pond near the car park was always hot/warm and you had to run like hell to the ocean because the sand was so hot
Great towns in the Coromandel. My prediction for 2024 is that Egg prices will plummet, as there is a glut in the market...i wonder why ! Another gem G & M
We are going in November for 3 weeks and have enjoyed your videos. How did you get down to cathedral cove? …heard trail was closed. Was really hoping you would have filmed that part.
When I was there in March it was officially closed, but people were still going - there was a couple of security fences due to slips, but you could just go around them, and it was safe
Thanks …have read that and seen a few pics. Hoping to be there for a sunrise or sunset if the tide is right so the path may not be as easy to see for us , seeing them doing it all in a vid would have been helpful. Can’t film everything though so I get it. Glen or Mado , maybe you can comment on the difficulty to get down to cathedral cove? Prefer not to take a water taxi when many others could also be there.
Also Glen and Mado… if you ever want to visit the US west coast (Seattle area). You have a place to sleep for a couple days …we won’t even make you work to stay here 😂. Have really enjoyed the videos and have learnt a lot for our own NZ trip coming up. TY
The trick is to dig your pool closer to the waves and dig out a channel for the cold sea water to cool the hot water. Or bring a bucket. I prefer the hot water beach at Kawhia. No people to put up with.
Discovered the Coromandel when I emigrated here 20 years ago, still love it and so have all the family that have visited from UK. Found good pet friendly accommodation too so the dog always used to come with. They all loved the do-it-yourself hot pools too.
Eggs eggs and more eggs... I'm surprised your little camper van didn't smell like Rotorua every morning... (sorry, just having a laugh) love all your videos... Safe travels wherever you might be now...
Malo e lelei Glen & Mado🌺(Hello in Tongan language🌺) Thank You for replying, I appreciate it🌺 You two are absolutely AWESOME and so are your videos💯! 🙏🍻 💯💖
on video 32.39 as you pull over an ignore that really tall letterbox..why is it so tall?? why does it have vertical slot ? so mail can be sent while you are seated in the saddle of your horse...No way
Thanks for the video. The pig farm was horrific -3rd world level. I'm surprised it is legal to keep animals in those conditions. I love how Mado cares about the animals 🙂 Lol, "Mr. Dimples" Glen smiling at everyone and bringing happiness and joy 😉😁
Stuart has just been charged with murder & attempted murder over a double shooting that occurred 4 days ago on the 309 Road. Sounds like 2 pig hunters shot and butchered one of his pigs and maybe this was one time too many!? Anyway, this could spell the end of this particular attraction, lucky (or unlucky) that you saw it when you did!
Welcome to New Zealand where all the tourist places are beautiful but there are still parts of NZ where you question "heys whats going on here?" and that is the desolate houses and animals and homes where people have no power, run down houses, no power, trees chopped down, and you think you're in an entirely country. Nope this is the other real places of NZ 😢
Ummm. Those are probably German yellow jacket wasps... I think. Not sure if it's a derogatory common name or if they actually came from Europe. Either way Mado feel free to call any annoying insects in Germany a kiwi bug or of sorts.
Love ur vids Glen and Mado, good luck with the rest of your journey and may you have many blessings....

Sorry typo Mado

Haha I know it’s hard to visit all recommendations though, always under pressure to see all the highlights. The pig spot was abit dodgy alright! 😂😂🫣

Drove the 309 in the opposite direction to you in a small motorhome back in 2020, interesting drive!

You're fortunate because I believe that beach was closed off not long ago because of the rock fall.
Was thinking the same thing.
We were there in January and had to do a boat trip to see this as was told you could not walk there. Would have loved to have gone on to the beach
