thank you for all your videos regarding the 18th edition. i work for an employer, a local authority, that is putting us through an intense 3 day course including an exam.they obviously only care that we pass the exam rather than have a sound comprehension of the regulations.

Just wanna say a massive thanks for this series as it was a invaluable tool in my arsenal to tackle the 18th exam (and to expand my knowledge) which I passed today with 59 correct questions out of 60.
Amazing series of videos!!! I used the enforced break from work to finally get the 18th Edition exam done. Passed my exam today, 95% with over an hour left on the clock. As well as improving my understanding of the regs these videos made it so easy to navigate the book and find the answers. I would recommend them to anyone who is planning to do the exam. well, been on lock-down since march 12th this year, so thought i had better do my 18th. Watched one or two of the videos each day then did a mock exam and today i had the real exam at a test centre, passed with 90%, so MASSIVE thank you for all your time and effort put into the videos, you are an absolute legend :)

708.55.1.3 no more than 4 socket-outlets shall be grouped together
708.55.1.4 every caravan pitch shall be supplied by at least one socket-outlet.

I JUST PASSED MY REGS EXAM 88%!!!! Due to Covid + a broken wrist, I wasn’t able to attend college for months. All credit goes to SparkyNinja though,the content is ridiculously good, hands down the only reason I passed today. I can’t thank you enough man!!

Other than this online video I took exam and passed yesterday without any refresher course from 20 years ago. At least 8 of the questions on this video were on the exam yesterday. I did find though quite a few questions you had to understand the wording and interpret it to the answer. No where near as straight forward as answers all in the book like it used to be. If I had not have watched this video a couple of times it would have been a waste of time taking the exam. Top Spark Ninja and thanks.

I am not a electrician and I am not from England. The book is written in a complex language and i found it difficult to understand. Sparky helped me to understand the book and i honestly learned more here then in a course. Thank you Sparky Ninja! Watched all videos twice. Passed exam 77%. Exam questions is not in order. just wanted to let you know that I passed the 18th edition wiring exam fri 1 nov and got 93%. I watched all your videos and completed 6 mock exams prior to the exam.
which is just as well as the college (blackpool) cancelled the 1 day course I had booked on but I managed to talk them into letting me sit just the exam. So without your videos i wouldn't have been prepared. So I just wanted to thank you and to let others know how helpful your website is.

Aaaaaaaaaand.... i passed, 95%! based on nothing for training but these videos up to this point, owning the book, and doing mock tests online. under 2 weeks from "i need to get my 18th" to "ive got me 18th", for 180 quid. (120 exam, 60 book). Thanks Sparky Ninja.

Thank you so much for taking the time to put this video together, it has lessened my worry about taking the exam. You mentioned asking questions, could I be so bold to ask what your understanding is for disconnection times for a street lighting circuit, (not the lighting column itself). It is a subject of debate where I work. Some say 5 seconds as it’s a distribution network, others argue this is applicable from a source point to a secondary source point i.e. a feeder pillar(cabinet). Some say it’s 0.4 seconds as table 41.1 states. I hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance.

I'm doing my exam tomorrow however I'm in the unfortunate position of not having a book as I was furloughed and then lost my job with barely any notice as it was for a small company why are the books so expensive I can't afford it on my Universal Credit, will truly see how good your videos are as if i pass without the book that's incredible (the centre will lend me a book just finding it super hard to revise without it)

Re question 7. Surely the answer is D. Only D has an effect on the Max Demand.
A, B & C are only limits given to these characteristics, which may or may not be exceeded dependant on the value given to Max Demand. They have no effect on the calculation for Max Demand.

Regarding question 7. Are you sure it's B. The question asks "What must be considered when determining the maximum demand". 311.1 second sentence says "In determining maximum demand diversity may be taken into account" It seems to be D is the correct answer. B is just a continuation of the question which wasn't actually stated in the question but is stated in 311.1 first sentence.
Should be D, the regs say - an installation within thermal limits and admissible voltage drop max demand shall be determined. In determining max demand diversity may be taken into account. Sparkyninja can you clarify please, am sitting my exam soon, learning lots watching your regs series. Cheers.

So the exam is in order so we know that questions 1- 4 will be scope then questions 5-6 will be definitions 7-12 will be general and so on

I have come across 2 questions taken from old books wonder if you could guide me and your followers, I am sure it wold be helpful to others as well with some explanation please. They are as follows:
Q1) An industrial type distribtion board supplies the following:
4 x three phase three-wire motors
2 x three phase four wire space heaters
4 x sigle phase ring final circuits
2 x single phase lightning circuiits
Excluding the supply cables, the number of live conductors enclosed within fuse board would be:
A - 21
B - 28
C- 32
D- 40
Q2) From Appendix 12 the maximum permitted voltage drop for a 230 V single phase lighting circuit, fed from the public LV distribution system is:
A -20A
B - 32A
C- 45A
D- 50A

HI.
With question 1, just remember that live conductors are line and neutral and also L1, L2 and L3 with three phase. Also bare in mind that ring finals have twice the number of live conductors.
So..
4 x three phase three-wire motors = 4 x 3 = 12. (No neutral)
2 x three phase four wire space heaters = 2 x 4 = 8
4 x single phase ring finals = 4 live conductors per circuit (2 lines and 2 neutrals) x 4 = 16
2 x single phase light circuits = 2 x 2 = 4
So overall there are 40 live conductors.
Question 2 I do not understand as the question is asking for volt drop, therefore the answers should be either volts or percentage of voltage drop? Plus voltage drop is now in Appendix 4.

Thank you so much for the reply, I know you are busy, I eventually got through Q1. I found these questions on a website, think Q2 is wrongly mentioned somehow.
Wonder if you could possibly do a test demo on an inspection and periodic certification of a 3 phase supply with a sub-main distribution board and a 3 phase motor with an isolater as an exam preparation.
By the way, the 18th edition book, in case you have not noticed yet has missed out to print the following tables on the table of table contents on page 522-524

TABLE A710 List of examples (have missed out medical locations)
TABLE 4B1 on page 394 is not on table of tables at all.

I was thinking about going for the Periodic Inspecting and Testing exam next, but have City and Guilds combined it into one course? Will I have to do Initial Verification and Testing again?

ok so my boss are throwing me and the rest of the company in at the deep end, does anyone know a quick way or explain better the calculations that will be required in the exam ? my maths is not good, im lloking at voltage drop, earth fault loop impedance and any others that will be required in the exam, thanks for any help !!
