If all fathers were like you, the world would be a better place. Oftentimes the father walks away and moves on with their lives. It's truly impactful on many levels for the children indeed. You took your lived experiences and made it better for your child.
That is admirable. It's a pity that sometimes if one in the couple is narcissistic and/or selfish, on top with a low emotional quotient then it's difficult for the other parent to get through to them. Sadly. The children are the ones who lose from it.
Just saw him live last weekend. He is SO funny! Great crowd interaction, great flow to his set, and he ends his sets with music. If Jo Koy comes to your city, GO!
That is So Wonderful!! Joe and his ex-wife are best friends and family.. His son never had to grow up in some Civil War between parents like most kids of divorce.. A lot of my friends had that issue and I seen how that affected them growing up. Joe needs to keep telling his story that you don't need to be enemies with an ex and that it is so much better for the children.
Aloha from Hawaii! I saw Jo at the Blaisdell during his record breaking show. I have to say it was THE BEST comedy show I've ever been to. My best friend since we were 5 (I'm 48 now) is Filipino, and I grew up around her family. His observations and stories about his mom, and growing up Filipino were spot on. I laughed until I almost peed my pants. I can't wait for him to come back. ❤ you Jo Koy!
Oahu resident here, love how Jokoy has a connection with Hawaii. It makes total sense that he feels comfortable here. For the most part, Hawaii gets it right in the acceptance of diverse cultures, especially Asian cultures. In this day with the awful anti-Asian environment, I feel, as a Hapa girl (half Japanese/half Caucasian) the safest here at home. Also love his amicable relationship with his ex, not just for the sake of their son, but for the humanity of a continued relationship with someone you shared a life with. I have that with my ex's family. Me and my new husband are as much a part of my ex's family as ever. Some think it's strange, we wonder why it's not the norm. Congrats on Mixed Plate...extra scoop mac salad, yea?
Not all all cultures are welcome in Hawaii. A little black girl, about 8 ?, drew a picture of her white bully to process her feelings. The little monster stole the drawing and complained. The white mother got upset and had her ARRESTED. The black girl's mother was kept from her while she was in custody breaking the law. The ACLU had to intervene and are suing. Even in Hawaii, they are bigots.
@@gabelogan5877 I was shocked by this story before I knew the girl was black. I was shocked because we're talking about a 10 year old child. It was a double shock it happened at MY elementary school. I'm not naïve to think there is no racial tension here but I don't believe it is as common and systemic as elsewhere. More details are coming out about this story and I won't be surprised when the huge settlement is announced.
I commend him and his ex for working things out for the kids. Sometimes one person has the best intentions and the other person does not want to meet half way due to hurt or whatever else that may be causing the blocks. Divorce can be difficult and fragile.
Kelly is the best, have followed her without subscribing for a very long time. Her positive outlook on life, her optimism, but at the same time grounded, practical nature is infectious...
I love his philosophy on divorce and parenting. When my ex and I called it quits I was going to make sure that my children still had both parents. It wasn't perfect but we took our kids on vacations with the children and the mom from his new relationship. I wanted those other children to know I held no resentment for them so the kids could have a healthy relationship without feel guilty or feeling like they were betraying me because they got along with the other kids mom.
Joseph is a good person I’m glad he talks to his father now but most importantly he is present in his son’s life he didn’t do what his father did just because he isn’t with the mother of his child - I pay attention to all his jokes and yes that’s his life.
I feel bad for Kelly during this episode as I know she is hurting as she has been the child who has seen how divorce can affect a child & now she is having to deal with it herself which is something she never wanted for her babies. As someone who also grew up with her parents separated not divorced but they lived apart & I lived with my Mum, she sadly passed away when I was 12 so I went to live with my Dad after that. When she became ill they got back together as they said they realised life was short to go through all of that of course as a young girl it was strange for me but I didn't realise she was dying I just thought she would get better. Sadly my Dad took it hard when she passed & he wasn't there for me as much as he should have been but I kind of understand it in some ways but in other ways I'm still that little girl who needed her parents. I have children now & a few years ago I separated from their Dad which was hard but we had issues & we didn't want them affecting the kids but we managed to stay friends we also done things together with them like holidays, meals out etc & we were always there for each other if we needed anything but I will admit it wasn't easy. Seeing how happy the kids were though made it worth it, even when I was feeling crap & struggling I never let them know that, they got to make great memories with us both & they were happy, healthy & loved which is what mattered the most to us both. We actually ended up back together a couple of years ago which is amazing as we managed to work out our issues but I know that doesn't happen for everyone it took me time to accept it as I didn't think I deserved him anymore but I have good friends who told me that I needed to do what was right for all of us. Anyway sorry for the long message I just wanted Kelly to know it's not easy but things do get easier one day at a time, she just needs to stop being so hard on herself & to take each day as it comes 💛 sending her a hug, positive thoughts & best wishes for the future 🤗
Thank you very much for sharing your story, but a lot people don’t know this but children with divorced background end up getting divorced themselves most times whether boys or girls. It’s harder on the girls because females are more emotionally open to talk about things that bother them compared to males who bottle things up because they’re taught to be strong and hard hearted . That’s why I feel sorry for them and honest to God I don’t hate her ex as much as others do because he was probably traumatised as a child as a result and all four of their children are going through the same especially the teenagers, two divorces is not something easy. And I feel both of them have a lot of resentments towards one another it’s all I can see from the lawsuit them trying to show who is more powerful or has more connections.
Thank you for sharing your personal story. Condolences on losing your mother at a young age 😔. It's good you were able to work things out and get back together.
@@kariay50 Thank you I appreciate your comment it is still difficult not having my Mum in my life but I know she is always watching over her family. I'm glad we were able to work things out as well it wasn't easy but life never is, we have to deal with the good & the bad if we want to get through things. I’ve heard of cases where the kids always stay at the same house, and their divorced parents (plus sometimes their respective partners) take turns living there, in intervals of one or two weeks at a time. Thought that was interesting. Anyway, Jo and his ex-partner seem to take a similar approach of putting the child at the center and making their relationships work around it, which is awesome. I think that’s the best way he could have used the experiences from his own upbringing, making sure his kid has what he felt he was missing. I obviously realize this isn’t possible for everyone though.
JOKOY you’re incredible, so so funny, and a good model for how to hundle divorce and still enjoy a beautiful relationship with the mother of your son……... 👍👍👍👍👍

I like Jo Koy and his jokes. Just one thing, I'm trying to absorb from this interview. If he is so best of friend with his ex-wife and his ex-wife always live next to him, then why are they still in a split relationship? The way he replied is like she is even better than being a wife. I'm very puzzled.
She clearly missis his point, or side steps his point about sucking it up for the kids. She says "the kids are the easy part". But what Jo meant was, just swallow your pride for your kids sake.... She's definitely not there yet. 4:04

A lot of times the mother vilify the father and prevents him from seeing the child or being in the child's life
He seems like the nicest person
I am glad that Jokoy is able to forgive his dad & is happy to connect with him again
