- Built by Williams for the 1999 BTCC season the Laguna was at the pinnacle of Supertouring technology. Whilst it wasn't the most successful of the Supertouring Laguna's it's possibly the most aggressive looking and fantastic to still see it running in the HSCC events.
This is a re-edit and re-upload of my original video with tonnes more footage which hopefully improves the viewing experience.

The engines of the Supertouring era were awesome, they all sounded so different from each other. I especially enjoy the Volvo S40’s 5 cylinder! 🥳

The MK1 Renault Laguna, more specifically the facelift with the 17ich alloys, was quite a pretty yet sporty looking car especially when looking at it from the front.
The Green Touring car version really built on that, the way the front end angles downwards kinda accentuates it's "barely off the ground" stance. A very good looking touring car even now. And when you do see MK1 Lagunas on the road (extremely rare these days!) they stand out a mile, because they are pretty, and not swollen, like todays cars.
The older version of the laguna looks better due to the fog lights

In my opinion the golden age of touring car racing. So many manufacturers and so many cars that became cult icons because of the BTCC

I have my Laguna 2.0 16v. F4R 00/01 in Brazil since 2009. Its a wonderful car , but is Very dificult find parts and accessories . I Hope to keep in good conditions for many years. I like so much the cars of DTM 90' ... Thanks for the vídeo !

Still such a good looking car, like the Espace of that era. Had a couple back in the day and though the revs were really high at 80mph it handled great. You have made a build that took me straight back to playing TOCA on PS1. You're a lucky bloke.

My personal favourite year of BTCC included this car… the 90’s was the peak of British Touring Cars.
Loved all the touring cars of this era. They were all beautiful in their own right. By far were the Renault Laguna, Peugeot 406 and weirdly the Nissan Primera!
The Mondeos were my favourite, it's a shame they had a rough patch. But I really like the '95 / '96 livery, think they looked great with the aero packages.
How far back and how low is the engine sat in the bay!!!Plus a proper torque wrench for the wheel nuts.Lovely Oulton Park.
Just stumbled across this, 95-99 were the best years of BTCC for me. Wish they could bring it back. The new regs are ok but just downstairs feel like the BTCC of old. Laguna was a nice car and TBH the only other car that could compete with the Primera of the time. But imo the whole grid looked awesome.

I had the Station Wagon version of the MkI Laguna. When I drove it with the window down the rear Hatch window would blow open & become an impromptu spoiler providing me with downforce so that I could get to the shops quicker!

I understood that the Laguna had been disarmed and destroyed after the btcc ended
I know this information because many of the cars came to Argentina to participate in the cup of the nations but according to the Laguna they had been compacted something that would be terrible, to see if any British friend knows about this

Not sure how true that is are there are still quite a few Super Tourer spec cars in the UK in private ownership. Goodwood had a demonstration a few years ago with about a dozen of them from the 1996-2000 period.

When Renault had Williams on board all of their race car were ridiculously good.
Is it a F7R like Clio Williams or Megane 1 16V. But with double power.

I am sure one of these was at brands hatch on show, not sure which chassis it was, might have been plato's. Not sure if brands hatch sold it though, as we are going back 2013

It was quite common during the late 90’s for the teams to run dish wheels. I can’t remember the 1999 Laguna ever running them but the 1998 car definitely did. By 2000 I think all the cars had them!

Engine position is vastly different to the road going production Laguna, as was the case with all the super touring cars of that era, as low down and as far back as possible was usually the criteria.
@@GTiR23 thank you. It blows my mind. I can visualize everything needed to do so in a rear wheel drive car but on a front wheel drive car. Iss the engine block moved back or the engine just leaned back towards the rear

When btcc was still good. V8 supercars and dtm along with rallying and f1. Shame their all poor nowadays.

their is just something about the cars of the 90s that is not present with cars of today that all look the same like jellybeans with boring engines and lack of proper build engineering .
This should have been Rwd !
That would have ruined the handling.... Not many rwd cars can go round a corner like one of these.
Charlie Charlot - They couldn't, all the BTCC cars ought to be derived from production models.
Back in that time bmw was only rwd there and audi was racing with their b5 quattro... they wasnt any faster than all other fwd's
