my childhood right there. the cars and liveries, the tv graphics and those legendary drivers. those races were nuts and the track selection complimented everything to do with btcc. i am also very biased
Like a number of people who have commented, I have many happy memories of watching this as a child. Sometimes nostalgia can play tricks on you: ‘’Was this really as good as I remember?’’ in this case, the answer is a resounding yes. In fact, there is a strong case to be made that Super Touring was one of the greatest set of regulations in the history of motor racing.
david leslie was such a madman on the track haha. I got the 1998 review on VHS for xmas one year, i must have watched it a 100 times when i was younger. And TOCA raciing on PS1, what a game.
I I remember this race and season very well as i worked for Nissan motorsport at that time the primera was an incredible race car had a fantastic chasis and had a very distinct awesome sound we won the drivers championship and the manufactures title that year. I also had the pleasure of knowing laurent Aiello and i rightly predicted he would become the drivers champion and he did i even remember having to pick laurent up from the airport when he first arrived in the uk to join the team i proudly have a large framed print of the primera gt on my living room wall i even have a couple of now rare laurent aiello mugs somewhere !! lol anyhow was a period of time that i will always remember unfortunately i find the modern day BTCC kinda boring nothing like it was back then !!
Didn’t like Aiello at the time, he didn’t have the same passion for the BTCC that the other drivers did. Maybe if he’d done more than one year he’d have thought differently
At 8:30. I can only see that as David Leslie's fault. The way he emerged back on track was very dangerous. Instead of sensibly keeping to the outside of the track, he merged in the centre of the track. Thereby, cutting Anthony Reid up. That was stupidity from Leslie. Reid was just following the racing line
Mine too mate with my family I’m 29 and we went to see the race where Matt Neil win the £250.000 gosh life was much more fun and simple back then right
I wish there was a current console game with a full fleet of late 90’s/ early 2000’s touring cars. A full remake of the Toca 2 game for instance, I’d really enjoy some nostalgic racing.
hi they are bringing out a btcc game on the ps5 later this year i just hope and pray they have some legendry cars from the 90s especially the nissan primera gt !! cant wait i played the tocca 1 game on ps1 every night for 6 months solid i loved it !! lol
Yes I loved all Btcc races as a kid growing up in the late 90s I loved all the noises the cars makes, my parents took me to the race which Matt neal won in 1999, we had a conversation about btcc last week and I just had to look up the old videos which bring back good memories of a much better time of living back in the 90s and early 2000s when I still loved the btcc and when life was more normal and safer. It’s funny how we get back to liking things we use to watch and like years ago I n a pandemic especially since we have more time at home and think about things more! I can’t help but think when I watch the 1999 race when Matt neal I keep thinking I was there with my parents near the finish line I wish we could see the audience clearer lol
I loved how these cars looked way cooler than today's race cars
I’m from Australia and really wish this category could have co existed with the v8 touring cars. Much the worse for it.
All the cars looked distinct back then.
These days all the cars look the same!
Totally agree mate.
'Saloon' car racing. Best there was, with DTM
you are right buddy!

Amazing race! These were the best days of touring car! Those s40s rocked!! I want one!!!
I loved the old t5 volvo in the 95.
best racing series ever

greetings from germany
It's still nice nowadays though. Much more action than in the WTCC, or TCR.

@@neilneilorangepeel I had the 92 review on VHS. Lent it to my brother about 20 years ago as I didn't have a VHS. Never seen it again.
The rims on these cars are beautiful. I need a set!
Especially the Volks on Reid's Primera
This was when the BTCC was the BTCC, it really is a shadow form of its self now.
Almost all forms of racing now a days look orchestrated. This is raw.
The BTCC’s great at the minute, it’ll never get back to Super Touring levels but it’s as good as it can be now
Massive budgets n still close racing. 👍. Wish supertouring make a return
The massive budgets is what killed it? Once teams started dropping out it all fell like dominos
Greatest touring car of all time!

that vhs flicker is the icing on the cake. great racing
And the cherry on top
Need to bring back pit stops. 2 longer races with stops instead of 3.

You can mod Assetto Corsa and GTR2 to have Super Tourers and all the tracks, it’s brilliant

I was only born in 96 but these cars were my earliest memory of touring cars, my favourite car has to be Cleland’s Vauxhall Cav from 92 though
I love the Nissan Primera - all Model (P10, P11,P12) Good Cars and P10 and P11 good race cars. Nice tribute. :-)
ToCa on the playstation back than. That was a fun game.
If you have more full races recorded please let me know :)
Best BTCC classic.

This is a lot more interesting than nasscar and f1
Who else used to play TOCA Touring Car Championship on PC back in the day?
still the best championship series bar none
Volvo, you are the Hero to resist japan nissan invasion.
The fastest car racing and motorcycle circuit in England and Great Britain and hole United Kingdom
How did Ayellow get past Rydell? Faster pitstop?
+De Apenhoofd - I'm wondering too. Is it possible he didn't change the tires? Or just one side, to meet the rules only?
Just before the last corner and then Rydell pitted right after.
Love the super touring days
Double denim never to be seen again since the 90s.
