Thanks for another fine review! I've had this game sitting on my shelf for a couple of months and have yet to play, but I'm now looking forward to giving it a try :)

Thanks for the review! I enjoy this much more than the second edition with endless dice-rolling and very long play time. I especially like getting equipment with accompanying combat tokens - knowing this sword does 2 damage or this shield blocked a hot is much better than just having +1 to fight.

For me this version hit a real sweet spot...I love that you get a combat token when you purchase an item...the upgrade is now baked into your token pool...no more having to reference all your upgrade cards. The game flows effortlessly from player to player with no downtime. I would recommend avoiding anything over a 3 player game for optimal pleasure.

If you can hunt down this game with expansions get it (although it's pricey now)! It's an absolute gem. Best adventure game in my collection and perfect for 2 or 3 players.

Hey Marco, I have a suggestion/request. I figured this would be the best place for you to see it.
Could you make a video about your favorite wargames in regards to different scenarios? Like perhaps a WW2 video listing your favorite grand strategy game, favorite Africa game, favorite Stalingrad game, D-Day, Battle of the Bulge etc etc.
Sometimes it's hard for me to get an idea on what would be the best game for a certain scenario or theme.

Another fine review Marco! I just wanted to ask about Mage Knight. (My #2 Game that I own of 12) I am basically, as told to me by the folks at my FLGS, an Amerithrash (Luv Ya' Z.) gamer. Which, to them, means that I like my games full of randomness and well the less I have to think the better really. Oh! An' could ya' kindly give them nymphs some hooters? Swell! I never bought that and Mage Knight is pretty much a Euro. The only dice involved is The Source and that is just to see what resources will be available that day/night. None of the expansions include any increase to the cards in the game deck. Randomness is NOT to be a factor in this game. Everything else most certainly IS. If this game had a tag line it would be "Don't screw it up." It is the closest I have come to finding a board game version of a choose your own adventure where every decision is vital. The head monk at the monastery knows you quest for the bow of StarsDawn but is under strict orders not to let it end up in the hands of ANY MageKnight. If you had burned down the monastery you would have gained the bow but lost influence that let you hire a hero in the camp up the road. That hero also ends up giving you back all that you paid them and introduces you to a much more powerful friend later just when you needed help overthrowing the city, all of which would have not been possible had you just leveled the monastery. That's not just great storytelling it's built into the design. MageKnight requires attention to detail but when people refer to it as a "Tower of Legislation" I get kinda' testy. 40 pages does not a tower of legislation make. It's a board game, not HR 2200.... I know you love great solo experiences too Marco and I don't want to see you miss what will really be one of gaming's legends just because you so rarely get the chance to really delve into a game with the depth you might like to. This one is worth it. There is a reason why although I can only own 12 games, MageKnight will always be one of them. It sits right next to it's great and worthy predecessor, RuneBound 2nd edition. I quite agree with your review and would happily play any edition of RuneBound, a fantastic game as you mentioned, with the only caveat being the length if that's an issue for you. One question about the new edition though. It sounds Marco, like you've played 2nd ed. RuneBound too so which combat system did you like better (I like the new one but the "flipping a coin" feel kinda' makes me wonder how much that will be exploited and will it only do the Omnom two-step on my table or does it still devour entire rooms?

Some cards and printed mechanics remind me of Arkham Horror LCG

Much prefer my second edition which tells a far more detailed story in 3 acts of varying difficulty. Flipping tokens for random effects seems pretty flakey as well. Pass on this version.

Runebound 2nd Ed. is my fav boardgame and I hunted everything for that game.
This version is just abominable!! :(
