that was an awesome demo..thanks. i took the first week coarse and thought all i learned was how to mess up and use undo.
but from there i am self taught. solidworks is a huge program, so I'm always learning. after your video, i realized i been building weldments the long way. i can mirror sketches, but never thought about mirroring features and bodies. huge time saver..thanks so much

This is good information. I would love to see an updated version with SW2019 or SW2020. Would also be nice to see it with the newer structures tool.

I'm glad we were able to "go ahead" and do all that stuff. If we'd just had to do all that stuff we'd never have finished the tutorial. ;-D
    Good tutorial, though.

Something that I've just figured out: Unless the feet of the legs were going to be constrained from moving laterally, you should only constrain the four of them from moving up/down. You will need to constrain one of them from moving laterally, otherwise the simulation can't run, but this will give you a much more realistic result. You can see from the high stress at the feet in this video that the simulation was not acting as intended.

      +Sam Roesch Good observation.

Yes, if you restrain all it will give the behaviour of the section being fixed into the ground, i.e. the connections to the ground can carry bending moments. If this isn't the case it's a dangerous assumption and the whole structure will be completely wrong.

Hi,Thank you for the video, it's great but, I have a question, your force is uniformly distributed or is concentrate? And if it is distributed don't you have to check the "Per unit length"?

When I perform a weldment simulation using SolidWorks, the program recognizes one of the elements as solid and the other elements as beams. However, it does not allow me to change the solid element to a beam. How can I resolve this problem?

Seems like a weakness in the software if it cannot handle the gussets that you designed.
