This is my first time running across your content, great video. You're spot on with this, learning from one light will have you ready for more without realizing it. The budget light(s) I recommend is the Flashpoint BLAZ 300 or the Godox equivalent. They are cheaper than speedlights and produce great results. Early on, I was trying to save and get more expensive gear, thinking it would get me where I wanted to be, but nope not necessary at all and saved me a lot of money. Now, I honestly did start off doing studio work with speedlights before I purchased the BLAZ 300s, but I had other uses for the speedlights also, so it was a matter of investing in light modifiers. Fast forward and I now have gear that will allow me to use 5 lights if that's what I want. I agree with you too on how usefull the 7 foot umbrella is! Just last week I used it at a Sweet 16 party for guests who wanted to take pics on a stage that was setup with a throne chair on the left, a decorated background in the middle, and a piano on the right side. The spread of light from the 7 foot umbrella allowed me to shoot at either point without moving the light, unless I wanted to in certain situations. Sorry, I went kinda long on this, but just sharing my experience about this subject. Great video!
Great vid 👏🏻 One light, a large umbrella, and a reflector (white poster board even) is a great starting point. Then we get more lights… then later, back down to one 😆 I always try to be as minimal as possible with lights & modifiers. Half the time I’m just bouncing a strobe off a wall or ceiling. Also just saw someone that uses a large translucent umbrella, but not as a shoot-through (white room of course). Really nice results.
That is a fact! Lol you end up not wanting to lug around all that equipment and try to find ways to get it done without lol. I used to do the translucent bounce off the ceiling even just a cone off the ceiling depending on the color of course. Thanks for the watch and the feedback!!
Awesome video Brutha Price. Great and accurate information, and you keeping it real. I appreciate your realness. I'm glad to be a subscriber. God bless you Sir.
Great video with good recommendations.... so true, the final result is what matters, not necessary to spend unnecessary money for expensive equipment. I have Profoto but also cheaper lights too.
Absolutely!! Profoto is great. Don’t get me wrong investing into sturdy long lasting products is a must! Profoto is a trusted brand! Comes at a cost for sure but it is quality. Thanks for tuning in 🤝🏾
@@taypricephotography I don’t wanna sound like I’m plugging Adorama’s Glow modifiers but they really are affordable and are of good quality for the price. The Eyelighter is a Westcott brand curve reflector, it’s nice, but a bit outta my price range at the moment, and Adorama’s brand is more affordable to have a very similar product…
Great question! No, Alienbees have what’s called a “Model Lamp” basically a light so 1. So you can see how the light will hit your subject and it can also help with your camera for autofocus. But you do have the option to have it on or off. It has no effect on your actual shot.
Light source further away from the subject with more power/Ligth source closer to the subject with less power = same quality of light? hmmm I would say try again
If you actually attempted this you would know that the light would be different in both setups. Let me know when you give it a shot and what results you get.

Yessirr! I can dig it 🤝🏾 appreciate you tuning in!
Simple. Direct and professionally to the point.
With regards to there Curved reflector, you could as well call it Eyelighter
Ahhh!! Now that you mention it I’ve heard them referred to as that. I was between clamshell and curve.
@@taypricephotography my "bell" is on. I'm on a mission to be addicted to your content

Do you always keep the AlienBee on? What’s the difference between leaving it on and just having it flash

Im always in a perpetual state of learning! I do have a question. What is a good flash trigger for the Sony 7iv., was looking at the Godox XProII-S.
Sorry I’m late seeing this bro! I use a cyber sync or pocket wizard. The studio I shoot at used Godox triggers and they work great.
That’s a clamshell setup with the curved reflector for fill light.
Yessir!
The biggest hindrance I find, other than finding models in the boondocks, is 8’ ceilings. What a royal pan in the butt
Agreed!! lol! I used to have a loft that had a 8’ ceiling. There was a lot of bobbing and weaving boom arms and umbrellas in there smh.
There is only one sun so one light makes sense and it’s what most pros in industry use. Everything else is mostly reflectors
Almost sounds biblical lol. But Multiple lights can come in handy depending on what and where you’re shooting.
@@taypricephotography most pros I met rarely use more than one light sometimes a back light but I understand
