I whole-heartedly agree with your take! I think it would make a lot of people feel more comfortable if there was some earth shattering justification for a full-blown genocide but I actually appreciate that the Rumbling was basically just an outlet for Eren’s life-long trauma. Granted, I’m not forgiving his trauma response in the SLIGHTEST, I just think that it accurately portrays the gross atrocities that humans in our world commit everyday in the name of lashing out. Proud of your hard work!
People forget that Eren could've even done a partial rumbling here and only destroyed most of the weapons of the world, one of the first things the colossal Titans destroy is all of the big weapons of the world together in one place which would instantly be a win as even Armin says but Eren keeps going. I don't think Eren never changed. Eren changed a lot actually, Eren's entire story is about one of understanding and development I think but that doesn't mean he's a completely different person. For example: Eren accepts Armin's death in season 3, something his younger self would never dream of but as soon as there's a way to bring him back he instantly reverts back to his old self and breaks down, I think a similar thing happened here but just on a massive scale. Eren constantly says that he's going to kill them all (meaning Titans) but as soon as his targets change he talks the same exact way to the innocent people he's trampling. I think Erens motives slowly changed, He covered up his true intentions to himself and his friends saying it was to protect his island and his friends but as the rumbling progresses it becomes more and more apparent Erens really doing it for himself a completely free world where he and his friends can act and do anything they want, he wanted to create the world outside the walls he imagined. To cope with the amount of pain and damage he's caused he reverts back to a child (as seen in Paths when hes standing next to ymir and the freedom scene). Eren slowly grows as a person and character and then slowly reverts back to his older self, It really is genius as you said in your video, This is a very basic take but I've seen nobody ever cover it the way you did because of how unimaginable the reason of his genocide is. Great Video, you earned yourself a sub for sure. :)
I understand what you are trying to do, but it does not works for me, SnK always felt like well constructed clever series, ever growing closer to being more of a seinen rather than a shounen manga, specially towards to the end with all the overly exploited political components, but making Eren just an idiot who is another victim of circumstance just to "subvert the expectations" (god i hate that phrase) of the audience, is just plain lazy, and it is a disservice to the characters, the people that have been following the manga and anime for more than 10 years, and to the well put narrative that Izayama had been constructed for all the run time of the series. It feels like a "gotcha" moment and a bad joke played at the expense of the audience, a certified "lol it is just a prank bro" moment.
I definitely understand your viewpoint here. I don't think that it's JUST that Eren is an developmentally stunted childish idiot, but that it does also come down go free will. I'll be covering it more in my larger ending defense video, but even without that component, I still think this move is, as I described in the video, genius, and I personally wouldn't say it's a "gotcha" moment or even a plot twist at all, but rather aligns perfectly with who Eren has been the entire time. Well, you know my thoughts already, as you watched the video. Still, you bring a very interesting perspective here, and I'll be curious to see what other people comment as well!
Eren has been an idiot since he was a child, a victim of circumstances, and the biggest expression of him being just a slave is The Rumbling, because he tried so hard to be a free individual but at the end he couldn't control his destiny, so he "accepted" it and actively pursued The Rumbling. I'm not even trying to explain this to myself. Since the first episde of AoT, Eren has been showed as a child without great control of his emotions, being victim of circumstances (the Warriors breaking the wall).
Look up Dostoevsky's book The Idiot. Imagine following Jesus because you think he's going to overthrow the Roman Empire, but he refuses to lead a rebellion, and voluntarily chooses to die on the cross. Throughout his entire life, Jesus is free. But you can't deal with that fact, so you say it was because of your sins. This why Eren doesn't confess his love for Mikasa. He doesn't want her to be a slave. Also, time is circular. So Eren chose this. In the Gospels, this is shown by the Father sending his Son.
Eren being an idiot is what i have always said,You're spot on the hypothesis we as viewer took EREN for some cold and calculating Genius just cause the story the drama the narrative was being spun like that...to a point we all Forgot he is basically a child of war.A VICTIM, A broken child cannot mature no matter how many smiles he/she gives deep down the scar remains the irrationality remains the hatred remains the yearn for VENGEANCE remains.Let's be honest we all started seeing AOT has other big 3 type shonen jump mangas and completely forgot the "HORROR" tag.
Wait so everything beginning with the rumbling and all the drama and genocide is just because Eren is an idiot? Nah that ain't genius. Everything before that was great but all his scheming from season 4 turning into "yeah that was kinda dumb ngl" is just wasteful.
Funny that people who is mad at Eren is fine with Marley having concentration camps, brainwashing children and making pure titans for 100 years just to eat inocent people alive. Blame Eren but forget the facist who caused the war in the first place lol
your view just strips away Eren of his inspiring quality of pure unyielding will Unlike Naruto or Luffy, Eren was portrayed to be more calculating and that is what drew every single person watching the series towards him. 139 becomes the skeleton to the entire story making Eren the idiot you describe There is nothing inspiring to learn from him and this story by looking at him in the final chapter in all its nihilistic glory. Oh what a tragedy we have not seen before clearly setting up a sequel too to Isayama should have written the Mist ending he wanted to, I regret my emotional investment now
In my opinion, take with it what you will, Eren's calculated demeanor is just a facade that was brought about to cover up his trauma, and the ending has him staying extremely consistent to who he was throughout the first 3 seasons, which I appreciate a lot. Furthermore, I don't see how this story was going to be anything but a tragedy. Honestly, I don't know what you were expecting here, Eren does some obviously terrible, horrible things to the world, we can't just let him off the hook like that. There is nothing inspiring about him, he chooses the wrong path (if he had a choice at all, I'll be analyzing more of that in the future bigger video), and I think that's the point. Also, I don't think they're setting anything up for a sequel, rather the credits sequence just shows that Armin was ultimately right, all Eren did was teach the world that it's kill or be killed, and it further shows he went down the wrong path. The cycle continues, over and over, in no small part because of Eren's actions
@@AsukkaTV your analysis with the current material is completely justifiable, but I reject that ending, Isayama did not write this well we have proof from himself on how inconsistent he is with changing how the story proceeds his original goal was the ending of the movie Mist by Stephen King where the MC kills everyone he loves. But Isayama has stated even recently that he was forced into a restrictive writing style. Also he was inspired by Guardians 1 and decided to form the alliance to "save the world" in 124. Also a main thing I would want to point out to you is how one of the main themes of AOT is Sins of the past which is a concept that exists within the cycle of hatred concept that defenders widely used. If Eren had completed the rumbling sure it would not be an end to cycle of hatred but it would have been an end to the Sins of past of the babies born because there is no one left for them to hate or hate them. The ending ruined this by having 20 % of the remaining world alive which destroys this theme entirely but defenders gloss over this point by mentioning cycle of hatred.
@eternalkino34 interesting point you bring up with the sins of the past. I think the Yeagerists taking control of Paradis is a fair rebuttal of that concept however, as even if the rest of the world would have been 100% wiped out, even a fraction, hell, possibly even two people surviving can still continue both cycles. Even just two people can still hate eachother, and the island shows this, as even the ones Eren tried to save ultimately continue that cycle by having them still be fighting
@@AsukkaTV you are right, I acknowledge the divide between Yeagerists and the civillians. Since we are theorizing and talking about what ifs, I suggest you would look to the Akatsuki no Requim Music Video which portrays the future which my previous comment would entail. It is pretty advanced where people seem to have reached a cyberpunk esque level and there is Eren, guilt ridden for the rest of his life. Its very poetic and I consider it superior to the anime ending we have
I've had the same take since I grew out of relating to Eren. I'm so grateful I did because the Red pill community loves Eren Yeager. Why? Because he's an edge lord with power depicted as a man who's taking responsibility for everyone else. A martyr if you will. I hope this episode makes those people realize that they're the cause of their own unhappiness not the people around them
I find it hard to believe that community supports a dumbass child who wants to commit genocide. I would thinky leftys who seem to support any war be it the ukranian and israeli-hamas war would support it. most in that community want nothing to do with war. having guns doesn't mean you want to murder people. I think youre just projecting your ignorant hatred of another group of people that you hardly know anything about besides your twisted image of them. sounds familiar to a group of fictional people who demonized another group of people.

On thing that can also be considered as foreshadowing for that ist the backstory of Keith Shadis and his connection to Eren.

His whole goal was to break the prerequisites of freedom by severing his bonds to the founding titan giving mikasa full autonomy for herself

Yeah.... because the 100 years of opression against Eldians was just a dream. Eren is not a response to a world who want to exterminate his home
