Such a great boat. I had a 94 years ago. The family hated sailing. I ended up selling. Not too much fun having to do it alone back then but if I could do it all over again I would have kept her. Miss her. Enjoy !
Thanks so much for posting this, it really brought back memories of my first launch of our Mac in 2016. Lovely to have the video to look back on, so wish I'd had someone videoing at the time. Please keep sharing, it's so encouraging!
Do you have any problem with steering under power. Here is my problem. When maneuvering under power at good speed tiller steering works great with the motor fixed straight. At lower speeds around the docks it is necessary to steer with both motor and tiller. The problem is I can only swing the motor (Tohatsu 9.9) in one direction. With the handle folded down it hits the side of the motor well on the port side. With the handle up I have no torque to turn the motor. How do you steer around the docks and do you have centerboard down while manevevering inside the docks
Center board should always be down as much as possible. If you can't make a hard turn in one pass, reverse and make a 2nd forward pass. Tohatsu 9.9 is bigger than recommended 6-8hp.
Is it fine to put up the mast before launching? Or does it make it too top-heavy?? Also do you open the ballast valve before or after undoing the trailer winch? Please Advise !!
@@finnkay Oh my goodness thank you so much! We just bought a '91 Mac 26 - our first sailboat! Trying to make sure I have everything figured out so I don't make a fool of myself. I was imagining the stern dropping in first, and the ballast valve dipping below the waterline, and the cabin taking on water....Then I was imagining the boat going in without a ballast, and capsizing....Neither good options! I really appreciate the response and the insight - I will check out your other videos to get a better feel for it! Thanks again!
i put the mast on mine up before we go. also rig the jib and main because its easier on the ground than in the water. we keep the ballast valve open whenever its on the trailer to let it drain and air out.
I step mast, rig boom and sails before launch. Valve open on the trailer, closed for launch, opened right after launch, preferably at courtesy dock before sails or using outboard.

I would love to know how difficult or easy the 26 classic macgregor was to tow with the Jetta Sportwagen?

Nice video ! Is that 25 " shat outboard on it ?
@@finnkay Thanks. I mean length of the motor. Looks like it's extra long shaft.
Man, that's sure doing it the hard way.
No reason to pulling on roprd and all. Motor off and beach it
move the trailer out
