- Destiny 2 The Witch Queen - All Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness Cutscenes & Quest Dialogue [Complete]
Brief Lore and Summary of Rhulk:
Born on the planet, Lubrae, Rhulk would live his life in the wild with his family. The Traveler would visit his world, advancing his species technologically. However, one day, the Traveler would leave his planet and his people were left to fight amongst themselves. Rhulk would do anything to protect his tribe, and his violent nature would be exposed, scaring his family. His family would become so terrified of Rhulk's violent tendencies, that they would remove him from the tribe. However, one day, Rhulk would discover that his father was kidnapped by an opposing tribe, and he would set out to save him, despite being betrayed by him and the rest of his family. However, once he confronted this other tribe, he would come to realize that his father actually joined their ranks. Shocked and enraged, Rhulk would actually appeal to this opposing tribe as they admired his ferocity. This would lead to Rhulk joining them. His father would revert back to the original tribe, including Rhulk's family, and Rhulk once again was betrayed. Enraged, Rhulk set out in search of his father and his family tribe. He would decimate them all, and finish his father for his treachery. He would then go on to use the "Upended", a super weapon that he used to decimate his planet. Eventually, he would give into despair, having lost everything, and give himself to the void. He would awake before The Witness, who would give Rhulk a new purpose at life, as a disciple...that being: ushering in The Final Shape of the universe. Rhulk, now embracing the Darkness, would go on to do the Witness' bidding, and would also be responsible for the Subjugation of the Worm Gods and the creation of the Hive.
Rhulk sets the stage for Lightfall, and he gives us our first taste of the new Darkness enemies to come within the Pyramids as well as The Witness.

Comparing Rhulk to Calus now...The Witness must be rubbing his temples constantyl, knowing he has to settle for a bloated, indulgent despot to finish the fight instead of a luitenant who genuinely believed in the cause.
I think ultimately the story meant to tell us that Calus was constantly being played, manipulated and probably abused by the Witness (mainly by appealing to his extreme insecurities). Comparing him to Rhulk, Nezarec, Savathun (who was supposed to be a disciple but had her own agenda) and probably Xivu (I guess she'd be a disciple too?), Calus is spare change and probably more of a tool than an actual ally.
@@Emil-RomaYeah I think that calus was only at the veil to lure us there so the witness could take control of our ghost. It did not care about calus at all

@@howard2551 it is assumed that the majority of his disciples are either dead or haven't revealed themselves yet. during the events of Witch Queen, the only known and living disciples at the time were Rhulk, Eramis, and the newly anointed Calus.
Rhulk was stuck in his pyramid ship due to the curse that Savathun put on him (she cursed his ship with Light which forbade him from leaving). Calus was busy with his fascination with the dark, and it was during that time in which he likely wasn't ready to reveal himself just yet.
Eramis was doing the whole scavenger hunt for the Witness to collect all the pieces of Nezarec, who was dead for a long time, up until recently.
That leaves Savathun and Xivu Arath left. Savathun obviously betrayed the Witness because she had her own ideas, and as for Xivu Arath, I'm not 100% on whether or not she is a disciple yet. maybe she will be anointed next DLC?
My lore isn't the best, which is why i'm gonna go read up on this, especially since i didn't play season of the hunt or plunder.
@@QantusVitae I think Xivu Arath and eramis are candidates for becoming disciples. The reason calus was probably chosen first was because the witness could control him easily, while eramis was conflicted by the resurrection of praksis as a scorn and Xivu Arath wanted to destroy the traveller (as far as I know) while the witness wanted to do whatever that portal thing was at the end of the campaign, so it probably felt like she couldn’t be trusted as well

I believe that the Disciples are a group of generals from different races. Some will be from what we know(Xivu Arath of the Hive, Calus of the Cabal, Eramis/Fikrul of the Eliskni/Scorn), but there will be some who are not of these species, like Rhulk.

At this point they more represent a concept like the Light or Darkness rather than entities that can be controlled.

Omg , Rhulk warned us not to pre-order lightfall and we didnt listen.
Cons- Having to play Lightfall (the gameplay sections in some missions were extreme fun though)

At 6:50 The darkness subclasses are displayed to the right as 3 crystals. Stasis at the bottom, strand at the top and the final darkness subclass in the middle.

@@zdude0127 Yeah. iirc out of the current raids, only the returned D1 raids and Garden of Salvation (excluding Eris' monologue as you load in) lacks in raid dialogue. Last Wish has Riven taunting us, Deepstone has the Clovis Bray AI and Vow has Rhulk. Meanwhile you got Shattered Throne with Riven sometimes, Prophecy with Drifter, Eris and Orin at the start and end. Duality has Eris and memories of Claus and Spire has Osiris (the real one this time) for dungeons.

Rhulk literally forced natural selection on his planet and he made it so only he was worthy of selection. My man is a gigachad in his own right. He made the hive gods look like a bunch of thrall to him, made the hive worm gods piss themselves and submissive to him alone…

@@urifrid6767 Haha I just read a ton of lore and I gotta say next to the witness, the winnower and the gardener, rhulk is the most powerful opponent we as guardians have ever faced to this point. He is a gigachad and we haven’t killed him. In the raid he uses stasis branches to cover himself to heal when he is defeated, we never beat him. The last opponent that was uber powerful was savathun and rhulk is entire orders of magnitudes stronger than savuthun and oryx. I fully expect to see him return at some point.

Playing this day one with my old friend group was such a great experience. Instantly knew he was my favorite boss and we were all freaking out over this huge new threat.
Rhulk is a better villain than Ghaul or Eramis. Both had entire campaigns to themselves. Yet Rhulk was only present in a raid / a repeatable mission and a few lore tabs. Heck he’s better than Calus, imo.
Obviously Oryx and Savathun are leagues ahead

Good news and bad news, in lore he's confirmed to be alive. The branches that sprout from him at the end of the raid put him in a sort of stasis to let him heal

The darkness trails remind me of siva tbh, imagine darkness infused siva that actually has a will of its own that'd be cool, and instead of the red and black it's that weird orange darkness color and black

Rhulk is just a fraction of what the Witness is capable of, and I don’t want it to be an immediate boss fight. I want dialogue, cutscenes, and I want to learn what he wants. Does he want destruction? Domination? What does he mean when he says “Salvation”?

he may have been a disciple since everyone else that wielded the taken has basically been the Witness' sword, he prob just liked the title "Taken King" more than "Disciple"

He was kind of a disciple, he worked to fulfill the darkness' agenda through the sword logic but wasn't directly subservient. He did his own thing mostly but still "communed with the deep."
He wasn't a disciple because he didn't reach the same understanding that Rhulk and calus did. The witness used him as a tool instead of a subordinate, letting his hive destroy civilizations in the name of the darkness but never trusting him. That's why Rhulk was always in savathuns throne world, to hold the leash

It's not complete until someone gets all of the little shit talking bits rhulk says to the guardian during the boss fights.
Working on another video about all that. I’ve tried farming for dialogue during his encounter and it’s been incredibly difficult getting all his dialogue. It simply wasn’t feasible for this video. This just includes all his main dialogue throughout the raid and preservation.
He would probably sniff the witnesses throne when he's not there just to get some fumes

The way I see it:
The Upended can only be wielded by one who is worthy, otherwise anyone trying to use it would be destroyed, hence why it is a privilege. Rhulk no doubt takes a lot of pride in the fact that he himself was worthy.

Also if you look at 6:50 the 3 darkness subclasses are displayed on the right of the mural as crystals. Dark blue (stasis) at the bottom, orange (rhulks power) to the middle, and finally green (strand) to the top.
