'Puzzle' - Harry Hodgman on the Michael Parekōwhai Steinway Piano

It was an absolute honour to play the Steinway piano designed by Michael Parekōwhai. Not only is it a perfectly engineered instrument, it is a bold and beautiful piece of art that hits home for me on many levels.
This was recorded at City Gallery Wellington in 2018 by my talented collaborator, Tyler Burke.
'Puzzle' is an instrumental piece for solo piano that I have been keeping to myself for years. But, it seems that whenever I play it, people always respond generously. I describe this piece as mechanical and melancholic. There's an oomph and delicacy to it that tells some kind of short story in my head.
