Matt is the BEST! I watch so many of his videos and did 2 years of his online courses... if you haven't tried them yet you are missing out. Not only is he an incredible teacher and ridiculously accomplished artist, but I can't speak highly enough of the quality and value for money. Well I'm late to this party, but I will say this. That is a European robin, not even related to the North American robin which is actually a thrush. I really enjoyed this, partly, mostly, for the lesson. I've just started with soft pastels. Barely started. I also enjoyed the back and forth between you and Ashley, the comments, the fun parts, like how to pronounce orange. I'm Canadian so listening to the southern American accents is interesting. I love the little bird. Didn't mind you blowing the dust, in fact preferred it. Liked the unblended background. And I'm so glad you gave that little guy a second leg. I realize he likely had his leg tucked up, but yeah, it looked awkward. I used to have a real one-legged chickadee coming to my birdfeeder. So cute and so brave. Anyway, thank you for this tutorial. Great stuff.

That fixative that doesn’t change colours has FREEZE in its name and it is a spray NOT an aerosol. It is not available in NA but in the UK. sennellier has another similar but doesn’t have freeze in the name.

Ok know this is an older video, but I wanted to comment about the missing leg. I don't think the leg is really missing.....if you look real close to the picture he has it tucked up under his feathers. That's my take on it. 😊😉 Loved the video!

Are you taking the Artist liberties with this drawing? I noticed the bird has only one leg but you draw two. Also, was the leg erased while working on the photo? The reason I asked is that I have seen birds that do stand on one leg, hiding the other under the feathers.

You can erase smudge on both soft and oil pastels, but once the color is set, even with soft pastels, erasing will destroy the project.
