The beginning is comedic gold...asking people for requests and then having a reason for why not to play any of them. Seemed like a really great guy to have known...RIP Elliott Smith.
Listen to what I'm saying, sir. Well, uh, what we're having right now is, we have, uh, the folks listening to this conversation as uh we're listening to you, listening to, you know, the folks listening, the- and, well, uh, the, to THIS conversation, and, uh, you know, and, this, was called by us, and, we have, the, uh, the folks listening that you're talking to, you know, and, this is the police that you're talking to, and, you know, the folks listening to this conversation as uh weh-am-luh-um, you know, the folks listening, th- and, well, uh, we've been, we've been taping, th- THIS, conversation, and, uh, you know, and, this was called by us, and, we have, the, uh, the folks listening that you're talking to, you know, and, well, we're listening to you right now. N'ok?
I remember seeing him at Maxwell's in Hoboken NJ in 1998, said he wrote this song while sitting in his apartment watching an episode of XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS. Thought that was awesome.
It's so weird to hear people clapping at the end,,,it just makes me think that something like clapping could never do something so beautiful any justice. Thank you so much for uploading this.
It's also such a sad piece. It must have felt so isolating too sing something so heart broken, and then have people cheer. It's like they missed the point.
I really love this song so much, I love elliott Smith's music, a curious fact is that he died just in the year I was born and the same month just 16 days after I was born ...
He probably was, and was most likely stoned. Honestly though, he just talked like that. His reticence caused him to have that beautiful, gentle voice of his.
Well if you don't know yet Elliott Smith was a depressed, alcoholic and drug dependent, badass who killed himself by stabbing himself in the heart. He was a badass who will be loved and remembered.
He was so casual. Just talking to his audience, smoking a cig, I wish all concerts were like this.
He's was so mild-mannered in all the videos I've ever seen of him. What a lovely character
It's the reason I love watching his concerts, they're so chill and Elliott comes across really sweet and down-to-earth.

He calls “Needle in the Hay” depressing, yet he plays “Between the Bars”.
haha
Needle in the hay is more depressing ahhaha
"Between the Bars" is a love song
@@gunarmontgomery3364 yeah to beer
He wrote it so he makes the decision what is was more depressing to him.
How is it that eliott smith in 1997 managed to look like every skateboarder in 2018?
because skaters have looked like this for decades?
He looks like he's in 97. You must be young.

i like the way he asks the audience what to play, and always plays something else haha

It’s profound for me to think that my favorite Elliot smith song might be just an afterthought to the artist. Glad he picked it here thought
I could listen to him all day, his voice is so soothing
He's the best songwriter of all time
Isn’t that Bob Dylan ?
I've been obsessed with Elliott's music for the past 2 years and he's now my favorite songwriter.
Shy, even meek, melodic, simple, complex, insanely beautiful....and what sounds like polite applause.....oblivious madness.
And a fagot
His voice is mesmerising
elliott is so precious
we are not talking enough about this. so underrated. he sounds brilliant

Who are the five people that disliked this?
Also, _why?!?_
Exactly what I was thinking....probably someone in our parents age group that thought -- "If it ain't Doo-wop, it ain't muuuusic!!!"

"Where are we." "Needle in the hay" "...no... that's too depressing."
I hate to see my favorite musician seeming so pathetic.
Was he drunk when he was talking?!?
He probably was, and was most likely stoned. Honestly though, he just talked like that. His reticence caused him to have that beautiful, gentle voice of his.
oh thats nice
+Ella Sansolis You must be new here
