- Elliott fan? Check out my original music, Elliott covers, and vlogs over on my channel ---- Elliott Smith performs with Jon Brion on the Jon Brion Show in 2000. Solid set in pretty high quality. Drop a like for Elliott!
Full show originally uploaded by AlRosePromotions, I just cut up the segments.
One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard
So beautiful. He would have been 45 today. This man gave more than most people can. Lost too soon, yes, but man he left behind so much...
He’d be 52 today

His music is so original
He's so off here but a fucking genius. A legend forever.
@@jamiefugazi6974 off???
I wouldn't say that
The most painfully beautiful piece of music he ever did
Elliott Smith was one of those people that should have never died.
So sad I've just discover his greatness in 2010.
Everyone and everything dies. Alone. When, doesn't matter.
Robert Bay deep bro
AnonA it does matter though. Shut up with your fake deep shit.
Why should he have never died? So he can further write songs for your enjoyment while suffering everyday?
Implying there exists those people who should just die
This is his most perfect song. An absolute masterpiece.
Every Elliott Smith needs a Jon Brion.
This is a must.
i cant believe this song is real. the piano and the melody is eerie and beautiful.
Life on Earth sucks hard for angels....they can’t stay too long, but oh Lord, we give thanks for the things that they leave behind.
Beautiful words🖤
My absolute favorite Elliott Smith song. I saw him perform this at club Avalon, in Boston, April of 2000. Now that he's gone, the chorus takes on a whole new level of poignancy, and desperation. How he keeps singing, " Everything Means Nothing to Me", it's almost like a cry for help.
he also said "everything means nothing to me" is like a positive sentiment for him. He loved nihilism.
@@AlexStanilla Indeed he did. One of the most nihilistic musicians ever.
Why does everybody have to make it about themselves? Relax. I know it’s hard to get attention otherwise but damn.
@@DDDDdJagr Ah...I see! You're one of those special types of moronic jokers that finds satisfaction in stirring up sh*t where there wasn't any; aren't you? If you honestly think my comment (made over 7 years ago by the way) was about me in any way shape or form, besides the fact I said I saw him live, which is true, then you truly are a fool. In which case I prefer not to waste any more time on you or this comment. Funny how the oldest comments I've made on here are the ones that seemingly get notified the most. Besides, what do you know about Eliott Smith? Do you know the story behind this song? Were you even alive when this song, and it's subsequent album was released? Ugh. I'm embarrassed to have your reply attached to my comment.
@@thelegendinhisownmind7038 I was 6 when this record came out. If you’re so embarrassed then delete it, loser. It’s honestly amazing to get a novel back. Gotchaaaaaaaaa!!!!! 😂
heard this song recently on Mr. Robot....., have been obsessed with it every since.
He was a genius. I really mean it. Music was uplifted by him.
If I were there live, I would've bawled my eyes out after every song - love that dude and his music too much )^;
The most beautiful souls leave because this place is too ugly for them
Hard not to love him when you get to know his music. Ty for commenting,
When I listen to this I want more of the song...I don’t want it to end. Simply beautiful...
It was great having Jon Brion there accompanying him. He knew the songs, he knew the style.
I will never get tired of this song
i hope u dont
this performance is literally flawless 😢
It's so simple and perfect. Thanks for commenting> Like your name a lot btw.
There's so much beauty and vulnerability in his music which makes him stand out.
This song is a perfect example of that.
I love John Frusciante, especially his solo work. He was my big inspiration. I just found out about Elliott and I started crying listening to Between the Bars. I bought Either/or (I hate pirating songs, I wouldn't like it done to my music, even if I was dead), and I just stood there in absolute shock. I've NEVER heard such EMOTION and POWER sung and stung through a song. Alameda was a perfect example. Just the whole start of that album was amazing. I can't even pick up the guitar the same without trying to achieve that structured smooth playing. His chord changes are unreal. I though John was the master, I'm sorry, but Elliott is the acoustic and chord king. I'd even go as far to say he's better than George and Lennon. Yeah.
Alameda is his best song imo
I love Frusciante's music and now Elliott's too. Both incredible musicians that get me in a very powerful way but they do it in different ways.
Man I love them both, and same as you I found out about Elliot later, but tbh I think they’re so different. Probs can’t underestimate Frusciante though, I think he’s probably way better than most of us realise. I think we have only seen the half of it
I’d imagine all 3 would have immense respect for one another
he's better than George and Lennon. What an amazingly dumb thing to say.
I love Elliott so much. I saw him live in 2000 and thought I'd be able to go and see him many, many times. I'd go back to that gig if I could, it was magnificent
His soundtrack will be played when I go out
me do, just "Ostrich & Chirping", the entire funeral :p
This song 🎵 up there w Lennon-McCartney instant classic my favorite Elliott Smith song masterpiece ❤
THIS ACTUALLY MADE ME CRY AND THEN I REALISED IM A MAN AND CANT CRY AND THEN I WENT TO SLEEP. ICANT BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE ME ACTUALLY FEEL THAT ACTUAL WAY.
You can cry wtf are you talking about

The _room of musical tunes_ Syd Barrett was talking about on Bike.

Yeah I love them both
Me too! They're both amazing musicians and songwriters.
I love how he pronounces 'Shoulder' as "shouldah" :) The Beatles would be proud!
I always loved that part too :)
He was beyond talented. He had a gift from god... so sad we lost him
Lovely! I do miss the drums kicking in though 😊
This is my jam right here
I like this live version than I do with the recorded version.
Such a great song.

I legit heard him from rick and Mitty and now I love him
Looks like any Friday night @ Largo circa 1999. What a time that was.
tell us more please
Simply genius..
I like how his lyrics just mean something else.
they carry so much depth that it’s insane to interpolate. he actually said this song wasn’t meant to be a “sad” song
What does the lyrics means? Could you explained it to me please
@@Pablogamalielm
To me "everything" is what he sees as the unimportant things in life. It doesn't figuratively mean everything but more specifically the dilemma of success/ failure and how people keep looking back or trying to figure out the future instead of being in the present.
@@irregularmana6216 very nice, thanks 😄
From mr.robot ? So good music
I relate to this song so much
Very weird and surreal! That song in that setting...
fountains are so pretty
I just discovered him from Mr Robot (I know, I'm annoying). I had no idea he was dead :( Makes this song so much sadder.
Haha nah, not annoying. I mean, they had Elliott playing in the show? It must be cool then haha. And yeah... His music kinda takes on a new meaning when you learn about him as a person, for sure.
me too
awesome.. i love this whole set so much.
infinitely wistful and sad.
It sure is! Just when I was starting to think I've seen everything, this concert pops up on TH-cam. Wonder how much other stuff is unreleased, if any?
No problem :) Gotta give AlRosePromotions credit for the upload of the show... But yes, I know how you feel. He's my best friend :)
💫
elliott smith is how i thought i sounded in my head as a preteen when Id try to sing emotional
More please.
The explanation would be noitanalpxe and forgetness the theory of reflection this is quite useful cause u can use reflection to boost energy

Greatness taken too soon
How does such talent die so young
ㅠㅠ so sad
Wow
ahhhhh thank youuu
Замечательно!!!
Yup, that’s his Red Label sitting there.
What kind of piano playing by the guy back of Elliot?
manalili jimboy a bit of a late answer but, I think it’s a mellotron.
@@DormantLDN that was my guess as well, but it has a special character to it so I second guessed myself
This song perfectly represents what's wrong with me.
Nothing wrong with you at all. You're just one of those superman who have smelled the fragrance of nihilism and eventually found it to be a great reason to develop a new self separated from those values that everybody assume and think of as normal.
@@miquel3657 ets català?

What a talent, RIP

Everything means nothing to me
lordsardonicvids Ty for bringing me to the song.. Wow ! This song is so uncanny to what I wrote that you had read. it is no wonder you lead me here! .my take on this song is a person who has come to grip with who they are & realizes all the journeys they have traveled in their life ...nothing reflects who they turned out to be. They don't see themselves as the strong statue others seen him to be! Wish I could of see the message you wrote before it got lost! the one you wrote: " OMG OMG OMG and did i say Oh My G... oh i guess i did because i just SHITCANNED THE COMMENT/REPLY of my life !"
EmileBea1 You found a really good version of this.
I think your take on this is pretty close, but all anyone really knows is he was a little high, depressed, and cut that title into his arm, and as the blood flowed, he came up with the song. Maybe hard to believe for some, but true.
In his words are a sadness I have never quite lived but I've visited those places, only for a while. Yes I wish I could recall that one too, not boasting but losing that one hurt!!! oh well, always tomorrow. :)
lordsardonicvids Yes indeed there is always tomorrow ... A chance to do better and be happier...or try to be....I know that if you just do 1 thing different each day that is good your day is can be brighter ...and you get a better out come at the end of the day you feel better. ...maybe even finally sleep the night trough...well maybe! I did not know he was high but the sadness poured through.....Cutting himself? Wow! Yes most of us never quite live...because there is too much to choose from...but for most of us , in our minds we have visited those dark places not just for a while.... that is to sad ....& never want to have to recall....time to make new memories , make better choices to have happy memories....We all need a new day to begin to make better choices! Huggzzzz
EmileBea1
Sorry i don't mean high like he was wasted or so... well, for Elliott a 'simple high' would kill us both, instantly. His tolerances, were up there a bit. Sleep??? Don't say that i didn't sleep one second last night! I am LOOPY today! No prob with though. No not true... see what i mean ?? Cannot think for anything... LOL!! Prolly no one can even tell a difference! Dark places, ugghh! Seems the lines btwn that and the sunny happy, places, are blending together more. I'll find the way around... and a huggg is good thing!
lordsardonicvids Hugs are always a good thing! At least for me they are! Hope your having a good night! Hug Oh heck Big Hugszzz :)))
Anyone know what Elliott said to Jon at the end? 🤷🏼♂️
No clue! Totally indecipherable as far as I can tell... I'd love to know though.
I think he asks him if he can play it again because he wasn’t happy with it. I think I read that in an article but I can’t remember where.
So sorry if this has been asked a million times. Any chance to get the full performance? Amazing and rare here
oh darlene im fuckin love you :(
This song should/could go on forever (figure8) or at least for more than 2min, I know the original is only that long, why that short ?
Jon brion has a show?!?!?!?!
Haha apparently yes. This is literally the only material I've ever watched from it though.
I saw God in this concert I will read it when it's time
i'm in high school again...
He was so sick of people talking about the future. So he carved the word ‘now’ into his arm with a knife. And he sat down at the piano and wrote ‘Everything Means Nothing to Me’ as the blood was dripping down his arm.

This kind of makes me think Elliott was destined for classical composition.
this song is really hard to sing along with
