I'd never heard of Elliott before seeing him at this show. Having moved back to AZ from Germany just six months prior, I wasn't familiar with the local or uber-indie music. I didn't expect much because it was at this little record shop and we all had to sit cross-legged on the floor. Wow! It was powerful, emotional, raw and a bunch of other adjectives I can't express. I'll never forget it.
Chord progression wise. Elliott has had sooo few come up to challenge him song structure wise..... I'm still blown away by this song... I studied mozarts require at 11... This man still snags me by the secret collar. All my sorrows, or attempts at death return. Now, though in such a radiant display of mankind's resilience and therefore cause for art. Steve Smith... Probably a name to drift off into Anonimity, until Elliott. Still, almost forgotten.... It hurts to see, hear, know so many around me living in complete ignorance of mans greatest expressions of its own condition...
I've listened to a lot of elliott songs, watched a lot of videos, too. i can't remember a time when he was more buoyant, crisp. each line delivered with certainty. definitely younger here. ideal, even! this is definitely better than the album version.
Just makes me think of all the times I’ve walked down the street listening to Roman Candle, this song plays and then Kiwi Maddog which makes me feel like I’m on a trip. Then condor ave and so on. So fucking amazing...
This used to be my only skip on Roman Candle. Now I’m desperately trying to learn it. Incredibly moving song that gets better as it climaxes, last verse might be one of my favorite Elliott verses
This is the strongest, most righteously I have ever heard Elliot sing this song... as I watch all of the videos posted of Last Call, I notice how both the guitar and elliott's voice get progressively sadder or even more passive. *sniff* Awesome video, thanks for posting.
I've been listening to your uploads regularly for almost a decade? Jumpin junipers I thank you from the bottom of my heart and the top of it too much love
fuck yeah! lol try slowdive on mushrooms. also my favorite songs to listen too on mushrooms are a couple teen idles songs, try sneakers, get upand go, and deadhead all in that row, the out of tune sound (not easy to hear when sober) is really unique and cool sounding
I love Elliott but he was not a great live performer. I don't think he even enjoyed it. He was a great songwriter/recording artist. I saw him live once and it was pretty bad - he was under the influence. Poor soul with an amazing gift.
He didn't enjoy it, but I think he was a great performer anyways, that is part of his performance. He also plays the guitar perfectly on lives, and he land almost sing like the studio version.
+Antonio Marine Hard for me to understand how you could come away from this video with that assessment... those last few years were pretty dire, yeah (I don't know when you saw him, but it sounds like it was post-hard drugs and severe mental illness), but all the pre-2000 stuff I've seen suggests a consummate, impassioned professional. Also worth noting his statement that "I enjoy performing almost as much as I enjoy making up songs in the first place" (in the context of how weird and atypical the Oscars show was).

I'm so jealous!
Been listening to all these songs obsessively for 20 years. I can’t imagine the next 20 years will be any different.

This is basically the chords for house of the rising sun.Requiem was cool. Otherwise Beethoven all the way.

I just learned how to play this on guitar, the chords are so deep and moving. I feel your pain man.
Love the strength of his voice on this
I wish I could have seen Elliott live. He would have been amazing.

He looks so beautiful sitting there in the white light.
i think that the roman candle version of this song has my favorite vocals of any song. like...ever.

@@mglenwright09 elliott and the Beatles have so much in common that so many people don't realize
@@willjones4992 no doubt. he was kind of obsessed with them : )
Oh my god im in love with this version, its a bloody stonker. The groove is warped and twisted.

Antonio Marine it also depends when from like 1990s - 2003 you saw him because the last 2 years were his worst
