Especially since they were both the same age, the queen still had the throne longer than Thatcher was appointed. However, Thatcher still had the mindset and power that SHE was the one that will control and steer the country in the right direction. The Queen was not used to such initiative and assertiveness from one who worked with her like Thatcher.

Agreed. And the script too! As someone who was around during all these goings on, it is brilliant. And although non of us (inc the script writers) would have been party to what the (real life) characters said to each other behind the scenes, one can assume a lot of it is spot on, even if exaggerated for entertainment value. I have only watched this trailer, not seen any of the shows, but now tempted to restart Netflix to see it.

This is an Oscar-worthy production and if things go well, this entire season will be even better than 90% of the Oscar's Best Picture competitors. This season goes straight to the Emmys, SAG and Golden Globe Awards in almost every category: Ensemble, Actress (especially this one), Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role, Screenplay, Directing (several episodes), Soundtrack, Song, Best Drama, and all technical aspects. Netflix really put all the golden eggs in this production.
I watch this season I cried. Just how princesses Diana was treated was disgusting. The royal family broke her. She was a women of her time beautiful peaceful and graceful and what Charles did to her was disgusting

Just finished it. And I agree. She was treated like trash before she walked down the isle. This Season really brought to light how cruel and cold the royal family is. Charles was more of a monster than I originally thought. I felt a pinch sorry for him being forced to marry her. But the way he talked to Diana after she came back from New York?? Just wow.

The way things are going , there is a high chance that Charles will die or refuse the crown due to age. The opening banter between Olivia & Gillian is SOOOOOOOO spine tingling. To finally hear Thatcher’s voice was like a bomb dropped. It’s rare that a show gets this good into it’s 4th season but i feel this might be the best season yet!

@Dr. Bagul the longest serving prime Ministers and then in 1990 I believe party just got tired of her Challenger for the leadership so she had to resign. She had to step down or else the party would have lost in the 92 general election.
@Dr. Bagul I think she resigned because her proposal of her policies felt quite ineffective already to the party and to majority of the people Iand I think she no other choice but to resign cause she proposed a poll tax that was unpopular in the country and ( idk what that is that about I’m gonna research about that) idkif she ran out of ideas of proposals but despite that she is still continued her role at the parliament after her reign as prime minster and was still advocate by her books and foundation (but did not last for finance issues) and still the queen respected and still attended her funeral since churchill . She did not resign because she was ill, she resigned because the party decided it because the policies she made during her 3rd term did not really agree with the people cause they were quite different at that time and the party aswell( idk but that is what I feel like led to her resignation at office not her disease or illness) .
Mostly the eyes. Needed a lot more pouf with her crowning glory which Diana was celebrated for. Indeed few female celebrities could and can match Diana in the voluminous hair department even till today.

It takes an actress of Gillian Anderson's strength and calibre to portray such a controversial, decisive figure in 20th Century History. I can't wait to see her going head to head with Olivia Colman in what is certain to be one of the greatest acting duels of the year.
Emma Corrin did an amazing job for bringing in Princess Diana into the spotlight! Anderson did a marvellous job as Thatcher! Hope they both return for S5!
@@dannyputra1908 I believe her parents are/were from the UK, where she now lives. Her British accent always sounds somewhat strained to me, like it comes unnaturally and she has to think about it. Her American accent seems more natural like she's freely being herself.

Several years later Margaret settled for Antony (Tony) Armstrong-Jones, but they had an awful marriage. Back in 1936, Elizabeth and Margaret’s uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated the throne because they Church wouldn’t let him marry Wallis Simpson, who was twice divorced, and keep his throne. Having no heirs of his own, the throne went to Elizabeth’s father, George VI. And in Charles’ case, he loved Camilla, but she wasn’t a virgin and therefore wasn’t seen as a suitable bride for the Prince of Wales (and Diana was a virgin). So, she ended up marrying Andrew Parker-Bowles, and Charles eventually picked Diana. But, like Margaret and Tony’s marriage, it wasn’t a happy marriage. Eventually, Charles and Diana separated and divorced. Despite both of them being divorcees, Charles and Camilla finally got married in 2005. I’m not sure if the Church and Royal family relaxed their rules or else Diana’s death made it possible (Charles’ former spouse was no longer living, so the Church recognized their marriage as officially over). Also, Camilla was well past childbearing age, so there would be no children between Charles and Camilla. Bottom line: the “mistake” that Margaret is talking about is interfering in and denying marriage to the person that they (whichever royal family member) love and causing a scandal because of it. Gillian Anderson is honestly so underrated. She was so good in the X-Files but I recently finished watching her in Neflix's the Fall limited series and she's just brilliant. Now I can't wait to see her in this 4th season of the Crown.
The irony coming from Margaret is great screenwriting. I just hope they reflect Margaret's disdain for Diana too. Maybe explore their similarities that maybe reflect jealousy from Margaret of what Diana did she couldn't do.

Yes princess Diana broke under the pressure of the crown, and the royal family. They definitely had her taken out in that tunnel. Harry left because he knew what happened, and prince William is staying to fix it once he takes over. Hindsight is 2020 to her children.

This season was Phenomenal! I've found myself simultaneously hating and loving every single character. They are all marvelous, complicated, multifaceted and real people and its difficult to decide whether you like them or loathe them. Incredibly well written and beautifully directed.
My fav season also because knew I’d love Lord Mountbatten after prince Philip and it’s the best dreams of September 2021. I wonder who else I’ll love in October
I wouldn't say that this season isn't about Elizabeth or the Crown entirely. The show is fundamentally about The Crown (the monarchy) as an institution and how those who are a part of that institution, especially the wearer of said Crown, navigate and deal with the simple fact that, as Queen Mary said, the Crown must win, must always win. In this season, the Crown demanded that for its future and survival, that Charles must find an aristocratic virgin for a wife and future Queen, even though he truly loves someone else. A British prime minister is asked to form a government in the name of the Crown, specifically the person on whose head the Crown lands on. In this season, Margaret Thatcher seems, as she did to most people at that time and since, to be forming a government and a country in her name rather than the Crown's/Elizabeth's, a result of her "presidential style" as Prime Minister. I think this season will explore, more explicitly than the previous 3, the notion that the Crown must always win because with Elizabeth as a mother, Phillip as both a father and a Mountbatten, Margaret as a divorcee and Princess with no meaningful role, & Charles, Anne, and Diana in general, for the Crown to always win...they all must lose...in some form or another.
Tbh its an odd one as there is so much in this series to unpack. Really though I have always understood it as it being the history of the monarchy and the direct (and indirect) impact that the monarchy has had on the way people live their lives and how the country is run. If you don't know much about 80's history (and the history of Thatcher) I won't spoil but you will find that Margaret Thatcher was responsible for so many things that the British public are still dealing with (including issues of austerity, job redundancies and also (wait for it) self-independence from national identities (E.g. Brexit)). Evidently this series was going to detract away from the Queen and on the other characters. But, that being said I am SO excited for this series and I cannot wait to see what they do with the 4th series.

Agreed. And the script too! As someone who was around during all these goings on, it is brilliant. And although non of us (inc the script writers) would have been party to what the (real life) characters said to each other behind the scenes, one can assume a lot of it is spot on, even if exaggerated for entertainment value. I have only watched this trailer, not seen any of the shows, but now tempted to restart Netflix to see it.

This is an Oscar-worthy production and if things go well, this entire season will be even better than 90% of the Oscar's Best Picture competitors. This season goes straight to the Emmys, SAG and Golden Globe Awards in almost every category: Ensemble, Actress (especially this one), Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role, Screenplay, Directing (several episodes), Soundtrack, Song, Best Drama, and all technical aspects. Netflix really put all the golden eggs in this production.

She had to step down or else the party would have lost in the 92 general election.

She did not resign because she was ill, she resigned because the party decided it because the policies she made during her 3rd term did not really agree with the people cause they were quite different at that time and the party aswell( idk but that is what I feel like led to her resignation at office not her disease or illness) .

Margaret speaks from experience as she was denied marriage to her first love, Peter Townsend, because he was a divorcée (back in the 1950s, this was a big deal with the Church of England and marriages/divorces in the royal family). Several years later Margaret settled for Antony (Tony) Armstrong-Jones, but they had an awful marriage. Back in 1936, Elizabeth and Margaret’s uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated the throne because they Church wouldn’t let him marry Wallis Simpson, who was twice divorced, and keep his throne. Having no heirs of his own, the throne went to Elizabeth’s father, George VI. And in Charles’ case, he loved Camilla, but she wasn’t a virgin and therefore wasn’t seen as a suitable bride for the Prince of Wales (and Diana was a virgin). So, she ended up marrying Andrew Parker-Bowles, and Charles eventually picked Diana. But, like Margaret and Tony’s marriage, it wasn’t a happy marriage. Eventually, Charles and Diana separated and divorced. Despite both of them being divorcees, Charles and Camilla finally got married in 2005. I’m not sure if the Church and Royal family relaxed their rules or else Diana’s death made it possible (Charles’ former spouse was no longer living, so the Church recognized their marriage as officially over). Also, Camilla was well past childbearing age, so there would be no children between Charles and Camilla.

This season was Phenomenal! I've found myself simultaneously hating and loving every single character. They are all marvelous, complicated, multifaceted and real people and its difficult to decide whether you like them or loathe them. Incredibly well written and beautifully directed.

I wouldn't say that this season isn't about Elizabeth or the Crown entirely. The show is fundamentally about The Crown (the monarchy) as an institution and how those who are a part of that institution, especially the wearer of said Crown, navigate and deal with the simple fact that, as Queen Mary said, the Crown must win, must always win. In this season, the Crown demanded that for its future and survival, that Charles must find an aristocratic virgin for a wife and future Queen, even though he truly loves someone else. A British prime minister is asked to form a government in the name of the Crown, specifically the person on whose head the Crown lands on. In this season, Margaret Thatcher seems, as she did to most people at that time and since, to be forming a government and a country in her name rather than the Crown's/Elizabeth's, a result of her "presidential style" as Prime Minister. I think this season will explore, more explicitly than the previous 3, the notion that the Crown must always win because with Elizabeth as a mother, Phillip as both a father and a Mountbatten, Margaret as a divorcee and Princess with no meaningful role, & Charles, Anne, and Diana in general, for the Crown to always win...they all must lose...in some form or another.
Tbh its an odd one as there is so much in this series to unpack. Really though I have always understood it as it being the history of the monarchy and the direct (and indirect) impact that the monarchy has had on the way people live their lives and how the country is run.
If you don't know much about 80's history (and the history of Thatcher) I won't spoil but you will find that Margaret Thatcher was responsible for so many things that the British public are still dealing with (including issues of austerity, job redundancies and also (wait for it) self-independence from national identities (E.g. Brexit)).
Evidently this series was going to detract away from the Queen and on the other characters. But, that being said I am SO excited for this series and I cannot wait to see what they do with the 4th series.
The actress playing Diana has nailed her voice, I cannot wait to see this season. From the trailer it looks spectacular.
