  • The most powerful vertical axis windturbine (VAWT) on earth?
Of course !!! IT IS NOT !! ...is it forbidden to have some sense of humor ?? the RS is an amazing wind accelerator.
That means: the RS doubles the windspeed... and that is: power x 8 !!!
(Newton's second law of motion: If the wind speed is twice as high, it contains 8 times as much energy )
If the sweptarea (booster flaps) is made larger and larger, it is even possible to triple or quadruple the windspeed !! (with very low investment= super ecological footprint= Good ROI "return on investment")
    That means:
RS SUPERBOOSTER produces energy at ULTRA LOW windspeed
That means : the RS is suitable for areas with too low average windspeed for conventional wind turbines (Darrieus)
As we all know: It is pointless to install wind turbines in areas where the average wind speed is less than 5 m / sec
That means : The RS is suitable in areas with even only 3 m/sec !!! (or even less)average windspeed.(more than 80% "on shore" average windspeeds on earth have less than 5 m/sec)
NOTE : GreenEnergyFoundation is a NON PROFIT organisation !!
All "royalties" are 100% invested in Third World countries(100%donated).

This is a very simple device to build. I built an 8 sided one. More importantly it's a great educational project.
When I made mine a few years back I sent it's design to a few colleges.
Sadly they said it cost to much and had to much swept area.
I work in a metal factory. I can make most the components from our scrap. And package it by upcycling our corrugated board.
I could also suggests to keep the packaging for additional projects.
Look at the 6 yellow fins. Sandwich them between plywood. That's how I did mine. 8 fins though.
Now put that device on a hill. The hill also funnels the air.
Use solar panels with it for same effect. The device now become a mount as well.
Roofs give the funnel effect as well.
Since it's easy enough to build with many different materials makes this ideal for 3rd world countries.
    Just my thoughts.
Maybe someday I'll be able to talk my boss in to making these DIY kits from our scraps. But not yet.
    Great idea. Great educational project.

How fast it's spinning is of no real interest. The important thing is how much energy can be extracted from the flow. What needs to be measured is Watts, not R.P.M.

Doesn't the deflectors merely increase the surface area of wind that is directed over the blades? Someone mentioned the pressure that builds up in front of the blade. It would be good to have an explanation of that. What goes in must come out, In terms of "volume" of water, air, gas, all hit the restriction of the blades right. The blades can only catch so much air, unless this is supposed to be some type of airfoil, which he did not demonstrate the shape of his VAWT blades? Then the issue of high pressure zone and low pressure makes sense. It seems that the deflectors would increase the pressure ahead of the blades which would not increase the power or lift, it would decrease, but once the attack angle was accurate to the deflectors at that moment it would work but counter acted by the other forces working against the blade in front and in back of the one at the optimal angle for the wind speed and shape of the wing?

These data imply the outer fins are as an important part of a VAWT as its vertical orientation. I won't deploy one without them. Further, the housing will provide a fixed structure to attach the windings for a generator, and heavy magnets affixed to the inner spindle carriage will act as a flywheel.

    A couple of points .....
I assume you are simply trying to measure the increase given by your add on to an existing device. Placing it in a wind tunnel will not show this accurately for several reasons
1 You get pressure build up ahead of the device in the tunnel because of the drag coeficient of the device ..... increasing the wind-speed will only amplify this error!
2 You have no load on the turbine so the increase of rotation is, at best academic!
Why not mount the device in free airflow and measure the wind-speed and rotation of the turbine (with fixed load on it) then once you have the measurements over a reasonable range of speeds simply repeat with your add-on bolted to it? That way you get a concrete measurement of Power Increase ..... which I assume is the purpose of the experiment!

Better to make large diameter axis turbine support like 3 to 10 meter dia. and to have the blades articulate to the wind. In such configurations you can take advantage of the airfoil effect of blades/sails. This will vastly increase the torque of the system. It can thus use low wind speeds and It can also be made to self brake or slow down in high winds. Especially useful in rural areas where space is of little concern.

Great video!!!! Sorry that you did not put some specific load on the shaft. The RPM speaks nothing more about work since bearings friction is too small to measure the difference of work between device with RS and without it. It similar like many here are showing voltages of generator which speaks nothing about work / energy of the device. Nevertheless the sum of frictions and air resistances on the device show us clearly that your assumes are correct and very useful! Thank you very much for this video. ( I partially agree with Rich that many of youtubers destroy their videos by stupid music or with high volume of whatever music. Most of them even use high volume music or even worse disturbing heavy metal or any other music using distorted guitar effects having very negative overall impression of any good video. Looks nice and it spins fast.
What form of alternator/generator do you plan to use?
I love this design. I have been working with it for 12 years now. Tinkering mostly with the turbine and working on the alternator for this design turbine.
Achieving max velocity with blade angle adjusting Took a while for me without the wind tunnel.
I took mine to Ocean Shores WA. and tested it on the beach in 30-60 MPH wind storm. Max I could get to spin was 75 mph with out the alternator, free spin. Strapped it to the top of my truck, hooked it to a 12 volt battery and drove back to Seattle, average speed 60 mph. 80-85 mph is max speed I could get it to reach. The volume capacity of my inner turbine area limits air flow and prevents over speed. Truck @ 90 Mph, turbine 85 mph.
Can't wait to see what hits the market, if it does.

are u using a similar design? and whats wrong with 30 mph or more? how are u driving ur alternator? perhaps u need some reduction gears? is ur alternator and load too big for the wind turbine u made?

    • @aaronburrelle
      @aaronburrelle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, it was part of an alternator design patent I was given to build. The turbine itself was was easy enough for me to duplicate.
The alternator design in the patent is my main focus now. Reducing a 4' disk to 9 inches took a little work to complete.
The original PM alternator was to big and sits on a shelf now.
Nothing wrong with 30 MPH unless your pulling tarps over hoop houses in the wind.
When I started working on this, the patents were the only place I could find information on this particular VAWT design. Now there every where in many different variations, like yours.
Sines I'm a relative honest guy, I will let you know this, of all the VAWT's I have watched develop over the years, I like your design the most, for its simplicity.

Same 4 photos over and over again. I drew out this idea about 10 years ago. They are missing several components from my original design that allows the turbine to use the "wave" aspect of the air flow as well as the sustained straight force air flow. The speed of the turbine and the power output are connected, however, this design does not work well with intermittent slow rolling wind. As I stated before other aspects to the design need to be added to get the best power output. Here's a tip for the designers of this turbine: Wind temperature, altitude of turbine and spot barometric pressure all play a part in overall efficiency of this particular device.

  • @murraymadness4674

Essentially you are increasing the size of the turbine. If you simply increase the size of the internal vawt to the size with the deflectors it will be about the same. It is the same with hawt turbines that use an outer cone to funnel wind into the blades. It is the same as just making the blades bigger.
But the cone is cheaper to make than the blades. Problem is the cone is fixed and in high winds will be blown down where the spinning blades can survive better.

Your results are based on a closed system where the air cannot move around the construction. This means that the air is pressed through the turbine. Under environmental conditions with an open system you will receive a completely different result. The use of guiding plates in combination with a vertical axis turbine is not really new and was already investigated. A power inrcease up to 70 % depending on rotor type could be shown.

    • @riebedebie

We don't think we "claim" something REALLY new !
All is based on Bernoulli/Venturi effects and ancient Persian windmills (3000 years old)
We claim OPTIMASATION of the system
(Newton's second law of motion: If the wind speed is twice as high, it contains 8 times as much energy )
That was our goal...and we succeeded !!!!
the RS doubles the windspeed...and that is: power x 8 !!!......as simly as that!
De results in "open air" (more low pressure behind the turbine) are even better than in the wind tunnel (more vacuum = better exhaust = more power)
The rotor is our famous SuperBooster Rotor (lift/drag TSR 1.2)

I agree, larger fins to collect more wind = more torque then gear it up for more rpm at the generator. I do see some benefit using larger fins to channel the wind, like being able to keep the spinning moving parts smaller. also maybe channeling could increase wind speed like a venturi .

    RPM != Power

    • @riebedebie
      @riebedebie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

cP & torque are powerindicators!! but are tied to rpm (double winspeed= 8x power & this turbine has double windspeed !!!)

    • @sjh7132
      @sjh7132 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm not sure the windspeed ^3 rule would apply in this case because as the turbine resists turning (when it has an alt) that resistance may have a larger affect on the incoming wind. I do think you will get close to the power of the area of the collector instead of just the turbine though so it does help.

The wind moves around houses and other structures but your design acts like a system of sails and to cope with strong gusts of turbulent wind you would need a very strong support system (set in deep concrete.) Here in Southern Alberta Canada where we make a lot of wind power the winds gust a lot( 35 mph to 55mph in a heart beat). I've witnessed roofs blow off, 90 mph gusts. Empty panel trucks were blown over. If you have the guts to want a real world test, bring it here and get permission to bolt it to the 3 Rivers Dam test site outside Pincher Creek.
By the way, you can play any music you want but ACDC would be great to listen to while you're watching the destruction.

Less music and more natural voice naration (no synthetic computer voice) would be nice. What does 'RS' stand for? Good to see you corrected some of the spelling sinse your last video. Correction, "Asymmetric Vortex Propulsion". Close, but no cigar.
Good luck in holding any Interlectual Propery or receiving any royalties, as 'Variable Guide Vanes', their correct name, have been used in Turbine Engines and Exhast Driven Turbine Supercharges (Turbos) for decades. Nice try though.

Converting the wind booster baffles into 3-D Venturi Effect wound dramatically boost the power output also. In other words extend the baffles above and below the 2-D plane of the wind turbine blades. This will increase the surface area of wind captured and introduce the Venturi Effect (curved baffle profile above and below the plane).
Additionally the wind baffle structure can incorporate wind brake safety features, like to close baffles when wind gets too strong & screens to prevent animal strikes.

  • @richardmrreno

The problem is, if you simply increased the diameter of the rotor to equal the diameter of the vanes, would you get even higher efficiency and with far greater simplicity and easier installation . It's the same issue as Ducted Horizontal Wind Turbines.
If you increased the diameter of the blade to that of the diameter of the duct, then any supposed 'gains' are (pardon the pun) blown away. No such thing as free lunch.

with NO yellow vents it gets wind from the whole of the windward side, with the yellow vents it gets wind only from 45% of the windward side
so the yellow vent is acting as a channel compressing the wind

    • @riebedebie

Nobody wants more than 200/400 RPMs but for a TSR 0.8/9 turbine (Savonius) of more than 3 meter diameter is that impossible to reach without gears !!
All low RPM PMGs need only 200/400 RPM max. and the RS is THE solution for that problem

24 feet in diameter!!! Does that represent the outer measurement of the shroud, or the diameter of the turbine itself?I assume your estimate took into account the torque and rpms necessary to drive a 5 kW generator, as well as the gearing necessary to raise the turbine shaft speed to required generator shaft speed? Also, does the configuration shown in the video represent the most effective configuration (angle of the shroud walls, angle of the turbine blades, width of the turbine blades, etc?)Why does the turbine on the AVP system seem to turn in the opposite direction as the non-AVP turbine? One more thing, is it possible to shape the AVP walls to produce a venturi effect aimed at the outermost part of the turbine blades? Finally, excellent video. I also liked the music, found it humorous. I thought the video was just fine without narration, better really. All the information you wanted to show, I could see. Narration would have been a distracting noise to me..

you need to show some verifiable data that will be used to compute for power, because any increase in RPM alone is not sufficient to confirm your claim. Please include the span, chord and the coefficient of lift and if possible what NACA number was used in your airfoil if it is an airfoil, the pervading temperature when the test was made and the elevation of the test area whether above or below sea level, what was the angle of attack?
